The high cost of Poverty
….or why being poor could cost you your last Penny and sometimes your life....
Lately, I've been wondering, why poor people, like me, need soooo much money!?
How can it be, that people, with the least money, spend more, than anybody else?
….now, after thinking about it for a long time, I came to the conclusion that...
...if you have nothing, you will spend more, why...because.....
….you may not own a car, happened to us several times, you will have to walk to a high priced Store like Harmons, Smith etc., where you get 5 items for $ 30, while you could get 10 items at Walmart, Reams etc. for the same money. Or, you can not go the food bank neither, where you would get help for free, because they don't deliver the food to you, unless, you are over 62 years of age or disabled.
Now...i would need to invest in a car, but who gives me a credit? I don't think so.
The bus? Sure, if there is a working transportation system at all and if you have for example, five times $ 1.50 for the bus fare, which makes $ 7.50, while the gasoline to go shopping, where it is cheaper, will cost you less than $ 2!!!!
Also, if you get a chance to purchase a car, from some suspicious source, because remember, no car dealer will do business with you, you may spend between $ 500-$ 1000 on a runned down car, which breaks down after 3 days. Guess what? You can't pay for the fixing, the person who sold you the car is not responsible or can not be found no more. So, you are the proud owner of a “garage car”. Let's hope for the best, next year you will get some kind of tax return, and you could fix this car......!!!
Or pay a bill!
Or...you have a chronically sick child, that needs to be taken to the doctor. Let's say a child with Asthma.....it is not recommended, to get on the bus with a child with an Asthma attack......you don't have a car, you will need a cab. Could be expensive, depending how far you live away from the doctors office. In a real bad case, you could call the Ambulance, make sure to find a $ 500 transportation fee bill in your mailbox, about 2 weeks later. Well, you could pay it with this tax return next year, right!?
If you would have $ 500 you could also buy an airplane ticket to Europe, or, or, or.....
Another scenario: Let's say, you are poor and you live in Public Housing, cool thing if you have no option left, but the Public Park, but.... let's say, the house is in really bad shape, poor or no insulation, you will pay your ass off with electricity ( air conditioning) and gas ( heater) bills. You may also want to consider, that the rent is depending on your income, every time you make a little more, the rent will go up, so....you will not “get on a green branch”, means...you are always staying on the same level....poor.
Now...your life: We all heard about the Swine flu.... let's talk about this disease.
Let's say, you are poor, of course you have no health insurance, you are getting sick, fever, coughing, aches and pains..... man, you need to see a doctor. Guess what? Won't work. Some of them will not even see you, if you don't have $ 300 up front or an insurance. The hospital? Yup, they could possible turn you away.... so if you are lucky, you don't have the Swine flu, if so, let's spread it around and die peacefully at home. You end up in the News, oh so sad story, let's hope you didn't contaminated none of the rich people out there, while you were still running around!!!!
Or, you die of a tooth infection, because you couldn't pay the trip to Mexico neither, to see a Dentist there and don't even have the $ 260 for the emergency clinic to get the tooth pulled out, because the free clinic has a 3 months waiting period before the accept new patients. But......maybe the tax returns??????
