This morning during my devotional I read John 5 and the revelation hit me. In the first part of the chapter it tells of Jesus at the pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem where he healed the crippled man. OK,…

Nothing says "happy holidays" better than blasting aliens in Gears of War 2 or belting out a few lines from Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer in Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Dear Friends,

I was sent this story by an old friend. I do not know the original author.

Once there was a farmer who owned an old mule that accidentally fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule "braying" - or whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving.

Instead, he called his neighbors together and told them what had happened . . . and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back . . . HE SHOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP! This he did, blow after blow.

"Shake it off and step up! Shake it off and step up! Shake it off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought "panic" and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!

You know what happened! It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, STEPPED TRIUMPHANTLY OVER THE WALL OF THAT WELL! What it seemed would bury him, actually blessed him . . . all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

THAT'S LIFE! If we face our problems and respond to them positively, refusing to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity, we can overcome them and move on to the life that God promised us.

The adversities that come along to bury us usually have within them, the potential to benefit and bless us!

Here’s to all those today who are victorious, more than conquerors, mighty over-comers, joint heirs with Jesus!! That’s you and us!! Hallelujah!! !!!!!!!!

NYAUNG SHWE, Myanmar, 13 October 2008 More than 60 health and livestock professionals are now ready to implement their communication workplan on avian influenza, which was drafted during a recent three-day training session held in Nyaung Shwe Township, Shan State. The plan aims to make a significance contribution towards combating the threat of bird flu here in an area that is at high risk for a potential outbreak. Nyaung Shwe is close to a wetland wildlife sanctuary located on a major north-south migration path for birds. The training was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, the Ministry of Health, local authorities and UNICEF to equip front frontline communicators with skills in disseminating avian influenza messages to families and community members. UNICEF has been designated as UN focal point for avian influenza risk communication, and the Government of Japan has provided financial support of $1.9 million for this communication effort. Part 2 of the testimony of Brigitte Kitenge, a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide which claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Tutsis in 1994, regarding her experience as a survivor of unspeakable human tragedy. Brigitte Kitenge met her husband, Leon, when he left the Congo to teach at a Rwandan university. But the early 1990s was the wrong time to be in love with a young Rwandan woman who was half Hutu and half Tutsi. When the genocide began, most of Brigitte's extended family was massacred. The couple's two daughters had to be told that their mother was dead so that they could not inadvertently reveal her whereabouts as she hid from the roving death squads. Brigitte was pregnant with their third child when they escaped to the Congo, where Leon's family demanded that he put his wife and children aside and marry a Congolese woman. When he refused, they turned the couple away. The Kitenges remained in Congo for a few years while Brigitte had her baby, obtained her masters in business administration and landed a job with a U.S. nonprofit organization. But soon Brigitte was in danger again. Congo was backing the Rwandan government's genocidal war, and Brigitte's contact with Americans made her a particular target. Accused of being a U.S. spy, Brigitte was arrested and tortured by Congolese authorities. She was allowed just a few minutes each evening to breastfeed her third daughter at the prison. Eventually, Brigitte was released. Pregnant now with her fourth child, she fled to Uganda, crossing the border by pretending to be in labor while the driver told border authorities, "The hospital back there is closed! We have to get this woman to the hospital on your side!" Brigitte made it to Uganda with nothing but the clothes on her back. Leon and her daughters joined her a short time later. In this extended interview for youtube, Brigitte gives testimony and tells the full story of her experience and inspiring story of struggle and survival as well as the horrors she witnessed during one of the worst acts of genocide in recent human history.
