I've not read any of them, sadly. Lately the books I've been reading are more utilitarian in nature (user manuals haha). I've been slowly getting through Food Of The Gods (Terrence McKenna), which seems interesting, as well as Sacred Science (R.A. Schwaller De Lubicz). That one's pretty deep and difficult to read, but it was written for a different audience (I think it was originally in French language, and is geared towards doctoral students/academics in philosophy and theology). I also have spent some ime enjoying the work of Philip K. Dick - his short stories are not only entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking, they're the perfect size for the limited amount of time I've been able to devote to non-research reading lately...

Philip K. Dick was PARANOID. But: next to Franz Kafka, he is probably my favorite short story writer. That really was his medium more than novels IMHO.

Boy. It's difficult to narrow it down to a single tome since they were all so helpful & valuable to me -Soooo... I am going to pick a book from my list that (at the very least) I think would be a good starting point if one wants to study metaphysical & philosophical non-fiction
"The Power of Now" - by Eckhart Tolle. It's very accessable & easy to read. |

Haven't read any of those... Currently reading/working "The Artist's Way," which I avoided for years, because every time I picked it up and flipped it open, the first word I saw was "God" or some variant thereof, and I'd cringe and put it down. (Obviously, I'm more open now.) It's breaking my whole world apart, and I love it. Also just read "Sweat Your Prayers," by Gabrielle Roth, and ditto. You know it's good when you feel yourself vibrating as you read -- or when you find yourself asking the author, "How did you know that? Dammit, how did you know?!?"

Dude...wow
The Artist's Way...Chai...that's been on my list.
My ex keeps quoting Sun Tzu when t-dome comes up and I just want to smack him. Peaceful Warrior, I think I read the other/first one...but soooo good. Also all of Tolle, Chopra (most of it anyway), Dyer... There's too much lto read!!! I can't think about it. Screw packing! ~ Live in the moment...that's what I learned from all of 'em. Tolle's new book "a new earth" is pretty good. |

I’ve been meaning to pick up some of these titles so thanks for the reminder and recommendations, James!
I’m ambivalent about a lot of spiritual/metaphysical writing because there's so much rubbish under the 'new age' label with a few occasional gems, but as with anything, I’ve learned to simply sieve out what’s relevant and applicable to my own belief system / reality construct and discard the rest. Anyway, here are several more book suggestions (and which have been influential in my life): ‘Prometheus Rising’ – Robert Anton Wilson ‘Angel Tech’ – Antero Alli ‘The Third Mind’ – William S. Burroughs ‘A Secret History of Consciousness’ – Gary Lachman ‘The Occult’ and ‘The Outsider’ – Colin Wilson ‘The Art of True Healing’ and ‘One Year Manual’ – Israel Regardie ‘Unlimited Power’ – Anthony Robbins (yeah, his image might be kinda put-off…but this was the book that intro’ed me to NLP / metaprogramming) ‘Ask and it is Given’ – Esther & Jerry Hicks (don’t really care for the whole Abraham entity transmission thing but the message is useful and helpful nonetheless…) ‘The New Hermetics’ – Jason Augustus Newcomb ‘Memories, Dreams, Reflections’ – Carl Jung (or just about anything by him) |

I have read "The Art of True Healing" & also have read parts of "Unlimited Power" . I agree with your assessment & reluctance to embrace every "new agey" self-improvement book/course out there. One needs to be discerning & find books that speak to them personally. Like many established religions, a lot of these self-proclaimed "gurus" are simply exploiting the hunger for understanding that we all have inside of us. Great comments and recommendations folks!

I didnt know there was such a thing as quantum psychology
|
|
Wed, August 16, 2006 - 3:19 PM
quantum physics is based on the fact that certain things like electrons can only exist in certain places, also the earth can only rotate at the exact position it is in.... im having a hard time understanding how quantum psychology works?

It's a term that Stephen Wolinsky coined himself. I don't think he means it in the literal sense of "quantum" like you, me, Fermilab & CERN mean it! It's been a while since I've read his work, but he'd describe his use of the word better than I could.

Also Quantum Mechanics deals with casaul non-locality. So that means: There's an exception to every Relativistic postulate you could come up with.

I've read a few of these - and my husband's read more. My mom's read some too, after she got beyond her, "You're going to Hell, no doubt about it," phase. Lucky me! So, here's my question for you, Oh Wise One:
Do I: A. Be Here Now or B. Start preparing my family for 2012? |

Besides you are always in the now.
It's just that one is aware of it to varying degrees |
