[The Spirit]

I am a gentle, compassionate, empathetic, vulnerable person. I don't seek to own anyone and I don't want to be owned by anyone. I promise that I'll never ask for more than you willingly give, because anything not willingly given, is not worth having.

I believe that love and compassion are in short supply on this planet, and it is good to strive for peace and understanding. I think the political system is broken and, even though I always vote, I have very little hope that any real change will come through politics; there's just too much money, power, and greed at work in Washington.

I have 2 grown daughters that I love with all my heart and I feel good about their lives. They were both married this year to wonderful men whom I love as sons. I have many people in my tribe, that care deeply for me and I for them. Friends, children, and lovers are life's treasures.

I believe that some eastern philosophies come closest to my understanding of truth, but I also strongly believe that there is no one way prescribed by any doctrine that is correct for everyone. The Mahayana branch of Buddhism comes the closest in my opinion. I love to spin fire poi, hanglide, play the guitar, listen to live music and not live music, sit by water in the dark, watch the moon rise, watch birds at play in the sky, and imagine images in the clouds.

And above all, I believe in honesty. No bullshit. I strive to be as honest with myself and others as possible. I have wasted many years trying to be someone that I'm not and I never want to do that again.


[The Human]

I don't drink that often (depending on your definition of often) but when I do, my poison of choice is Tequila, which I sometimes over-consume (read: drink too much and get plastered) . I avoid the Madison Avenue/Propaganda poison on television so I don't have cable. I've never missed it, except for Rome and Bill Maher, but I do have a wide screen TV with surround sound to watch movies. I'm a night owl and am convinced that if I didn't have to work I'd be nocturnal. I'm rarely home; my tribes of friends keep me busy, sometimes too busy to read.

I eat healthily but I'm not currently a vegetarian, though I've slipped in and out of vegetarianism over the years. I could be convinced to switch again.

Music is an important part of my life. There is so much good music out there that no one person can know it all. I tend towards indie music that you never, or rarely, hear on the radio.

I've always considered watching or following sports to be a total waste of my precious time. I won't condemn you for pouring beer-soaked slop into your brain because, after all, it's your choice.

Being born and raised in New York City, I'm an urban boy at heart. I love that I can walk from where I live to museums, bars, restaurants, friends' homes, and parks. But I also love the country and nature, where I get lost in the chaotic beauty of it all. Suburbs, on the other hand, are the worst of both worlds: nowhere to go but also no privacy. Makes me shiver.
