Class consists of warm up, drills and varying exercises designed to improve body awareness, posture, and stability for dancing. Listening exercises help develop the ability to feel the music. Theory includes creative breakdown of muscular technique involved in this dance form and tips to get the most out of your practice. There is a focus on moving from the core with strength and grace. Classes are mixed level and modifications are given to meet individual students needs and to keep the class challenging, yet not overwhelming for beginners as well as advanced students.

Pilates is a movement discipline that focuses on the core postural muscles that are essential to providing support for the spine and to helping keep the body balanced. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and strengthen the deep torso muscles, which are important to help alleviate and prevent back pain. Pilates is an excellent addition to belly dance in that it conditions the muscles that are necessary to develop a healthy and strong dance posture while deepening body awareness. This awareness of the individual muscle groups in the dancer’s body (particularly in the torso) helps in learning and improving various isolations used in the dance.

This lady is superfantastic!! I've had a LOT of dance teachers in my time, but I think she might be my all time favorite. Super intelligent, gorgeous, funny, and such an amazing teacher. She has really opened up my awareness of my own body, something I think I lost when I stopped dancing awhile back. Oh, and besides being a great teacher, the girl can dance. Seriously.
In this time in my life I am looking for opportunities every day to be grateful. Every week when I come to class, it is another grateful experience I get to have. I am truly grateful to have this girl in my life. As my teacher, so she may impart her wisdom to me, and also as a friend, which in my experience, is a hard thing to come by.

There is so much more I have to say, but in a nutshell ... she's one rare gem of a woman and an amazingly beautiful, graceful and unique dancer. She puts her heart fully into her dance performance and into her friendships, and into just about everything she does.
She is one of the most giving, loving, caring, supportive and genuine people I know, and all at the same time a witty fun smart sassy ass cookie monster who takes life seriously enough but not too seriously.

Oddly enough...Sharon pigeonholed her through my eyes...
I would have said the same although...since it's been done, and in form of my nature, I will steer this testy in a different path.
Where I go... EYE don't even know...
I met this German born model-looking blonde via myspace.
I believe Sharon had emailed me about her not only telling me how fuckin' (did I say that?) cool she was, but that...well...non or your business.
Anyway, it turns out that she moves here (SF)... Low N behold, The Vanessa proves ‘in person’ to be COOL.
Figure that?!
Vanessa is down... She marched her way into class, and I knew exactly who she was. In fact, I recall emailing my dear Cindy that our normal rendezvous would include a certain someone that I thought could handle....well....us, AND the ice cream...
Not only can she handle the ice cream... She can handle the art of belly dance and all its intricacies, with a spell that has you CONVINCED I say...

What can I say, this gal is the whole package--you meet her, and of course you can't help being rendered awkward and speechless by her classic, yet somehow unusual can't-stop-staring-at-her beauty, but then she opens her mouth. Hilarious, bladder punishing funnies, brilliant, astute commentary, and innovative, compassionate ideas flow from her. Then you're trying to figure out how you knew each other before, where you may have met, cause you KNOW you've been friends for years. But that's just how it goes with this one-- a truly awesome lady that I'm honored to know. I wish I could have seen you before tour, but off I go, starting tomorrow, returning in JAnuary.
