Hello everyone,

April is another busy and exciting month for me, taking me to LA for several performances. It will be my first time dancing in LA since I moved away in 2004. This month marks the beginning of my collaboration with the beautiful and talented Jennifer Faust . We have put together a delicious piece that we will debut at the Ansuya show in San Francisco and there will be a repeat performance the following week in LA. If you haven’t seen this amazing girl perform yet, I highly recommend you check her out. I am also very honored that the fabulous Sharon Kihara has asked me to assist her workshops at Tribal Caravan the same weekend. At the end of the month I will teach my first yoga/dance fusion workshop at 7th heaven in Berkeley entitled “The Yoga of Dancing the Divine”. This workshop will be one part of a wonderful monthly event called Elysium. For more info please see www.7thheavenyoga.com . You can also see me at the return of Triple Power in late April, a regular SF event put on by an amazing crew of collaborators. In May you will find me back in LA for a performance at the Ansuya show, then back home for performances at Tribal fest and a very special Electric Vardo production, called “Vuelva Al Sur” Flamenco fusion. And speaking of flamenco, In June I will be headed to Spain for workshops and performances in Madrid and Barcelona. I’m especially excited about this for the obvious reason that it takes place in Spain, but also because this is where my Mom started her dance career and I will be dancing in the same cities where she performed as a young Flamenco dancer.

Journal entry 7/15

I am sitting by the Charles river, taking everything in one last time and truly experiencing it. I just reminisced about all I've done in the last 7 months, the places I've been, the events of which I was a part, the relationships I formed and the human interactions I encountered.

I reminisced about Erin and Davis and our friendship and all the little intimacies you learn about another person when you spend so much time with them and have so many experiences together, the inside jokes that form, the little things that we like to tease each other about and the genuine sharing.

It is amazing how much you learn from the people, places and situations you encounter.

This afternoon, I will get on a one way flight from Boston to San Francisco. I am closing one chapter of my life and I am opening another. May the next one be just as wonderful as the last.

appreciating without owning

Appreciating without owning: At first glance, one might think this applies to material things, and it does, but it applies to so much more. I'll address the material first. When you learn to appreciate items that aren't yours, without the need to own them, life becomes much simpler. You become less competitive with people, you learn to be happy for others, rather than envious. You will be tied down less without so many possessions. When you can learn to appreciate things without having to own them, you become lighter, you acquire less, you become less stagnant, your energy flows freely because it isn't blocked by needless possessions. You learn that it is much better to appreciate someone else’s power boat (for example) by taking a ride on it with them, rather than spending all the money and frustration that goes along with owning and maintaining one of your own. You also eliminate the constant race to "keep up with the Jones's" and buying things that you don't really need, that will eventually just sit there and take up space (a valuable resource) as you've already moved on to another item that you couldn't appreciate without owning.

This practice of appreciating without owning can be expanded to include almost anything, not just the material. It is much better to appreciate someone else’s talent, for instance, than to be envious of it and want it for yourself. Appreciate your own talents and cultivate them as well, but let others have theirs and feel the joy they can bring to you through their talents, rather than envying them. This can apply to people too. Rather than wanting to have that hot guy or girl you just saw, appreciate their beauty and be happy for their loved ones. It's not that hard to learn that you can still look at something and be thankful for the moment of beauty and appreciation and then move on and be happy with what you already have instead of wanting something else. When you learn to truly appreciate your gifts, you can also appreciate the gifts of others, without having to hoard them for yourself. There is enough wonder in this world for all of us to have some, we don't need to want everyone else’s, but we can still appreciate it.

It is amazing how much lighter ones load becomes, when you can learn to appreciate, without having to own.
