something like that. i leave friday midnight-ish.

sunday jake and i loaded up the truck and the fella heroically drove the truck down to san diego all by himself. i stayed behind, did research on my homework and entertained him on the phone for a few minutes at a time.

my car died last night, left the car at work overnight. luckily i had a coworker friend who lived in the same general area, who was able to give me a lift home and to work this morning. and the company's mechanic was able to take a look at it and confirm that it was the battery, and he was able to recharge it, etc.

tonight, after my fatty nap, i get to have one last little hullabaloo at verdi club. should be good and fun.

tomorrow's clean up day at the apartment, write and turn in my part of a team paper, possibly get new car battery and other driving needs. finish packing. change contact info, etc. same with thursday.

friday is my last day of work. turn in office keys, final sweep of work space, answer any last-minute questions, and do exit interview. oh, receive paycheck. (i'm glad i didn't take much vacation last year!)

go home, final walk-through with landlord, turn in house key and hopefully receive decent deposit check. then drive to gabe's and take a huge nap. wake up and drive down 'round midnight.

sometime saturday, plant mynx flag in ocean beach.

oh boy.

"But There Were No Jazz Hands

This morning on the way to work, I walked by Richard Simmons, who was doing a funny little dance while standing outside of his limo. It was just me, Richard Simmons, and the driver. Deep down inside, I like to think that he was trying to impress me.

Also, I walked into the building behind a man who had a banana in his pocket. I wanted to ask him if he was just happy to see me, because, seriously, how often to people carry bananas in their pocket? But I resisted on account of he was a stranger. Also, a cop."

I want to start walking around with a banana in my pocket now.

Legislation to stop "drive-through" mastectomies

(from http://www.lifetimetv.com/breastcancer/petition/protectionact_2005.php)

LEGISLATION TO STOP "DRIVE-THROUGH" MASTECTOMIES

Read on for the lead sponsors and actual wording of the act.

    * The Breast Cancer Protection Act of 2007 (S. 459/H.R. 758)
    * Lead sponsors: Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT).
    * Cosponsors: This bipartisan bill has 17 cosponsors in the Senate and 149 cosponsors in the House. (See attached list.)
    * Protections: The bill's protections for those facing breast cancer include:

   1. Inpatient coverage: Provides that a health care provider cannot limit hospital stays for mastectomy or breast-conserving surgery to less than 48 hours, and also assures a 24-hour stay for lymph node dissection. While some patients may choose a shorter stay, this choice should be one in which both the doctor and patient concur. No woman should be forced to undergo invasive treatment on an outpatient basis. This bill does not mandate a hospital stay if both doctor and patient feel it is unnecessary.
   2. A second opinion: Assures a patient of a second opinion for any cancer diagnosis. A cancer diagnosis must be reliable.
   3. Support for lumpectomy treatment: Requires coverage for radiation therapy for patients undergoing a lumpectomy. Together with the assurance of inpatient care, the economic incentive is removed for a woman to select mastectomy simply to reduce the immediate cost of treatment.

Background:

    * DeLauro first proposed this bill in 1996, after Connecticut physician Kristin Zarfos, M.D., brought the ever-increasing practice of "drive-through" mastectomies to her attention. Lifetime joined their efforts shortly thereafter and began to collect petition signatures at LifetimeTV.com.
    * In 1997, Health and Human Services Secretary Donna E. Shalala and the Clinton Administration announced steps to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries are protected from any requirements that would place time limits on hospital stays for mastectomies. However, this never resulted in protections for all patients.
    * Today, though previous versions of this legislation have stalled in committee, the Breast Cancer Protection Act of 2007 (S.459/H.R. 758) has 148 bipartisan co-sponsors in the House and 17 in the Senate. With more than 16.8 million signatures on Lifetime's online petition and the support of the following organizations, Lifetime is making sure Congress takes notice: American College of Surgeons; American Medical Association; Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses; Families USA; Oncology Nursing Society; Society for Women's Health Research; Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; and Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization.
    * Twenty states have enacted laws to require minimum length-of-stay requirements to try and discourage the practice of drive-through mastectomies (protections/remedies vary by state): Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Note: Even if there's a state law, drive-through mastectomies can still happen, as in Alva Williams' case.

You are the World

Completion, Good Reward.

The World is the final card of the Major Arcana, and as such represents saturnian energies, time, and completion.

The World card pictures a dancer in a Yoni (sometimes made of laurel leaves). The Yoni symbolizes the great Mother, the cervix through which everything is born, and also the doorway to the next life after death. It is indicative of a complete circle. Everything is finally coming together, successfully and at last. You will get that Ph.D. you've been working for years to complete, graduate at long last, marry after a long engagement, or finish that huge project. This card is not for little ends, but for big ones, important ones, ones that come with well earned cheers and acknowledgements. Your hard work, knowledge, wisdom, patience, etc, will absolutely pay-off; you've done everything right.

What Tarot Card are You?

2006 Year In Review

It goes by so quickly, doesn’t it? And yet, not. Seems a lifetime since last, and now it’s that time again!

What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before?
- Got arrested. Subsequently housebound. (DUI)
- Got a mud bath.
- Best man @ Z&A’s wedding.
- Proved myself (to myself, mostly) as a solo burlesque performer, several times this year. A new act almost every single gig.
- Tried rollerskating and fell on my ass several times. Never actually got hurt, though. (I’ve gotten more hurty from bq performances. Funny that.)

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions and will you make more for next year?
I don’t make new year’s resolutions. But I did resolve to finally start taking care of myself, and I am.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

Did anyone close to you die?
No.

What countries did you visit?
Jake’s Ocean Beach. Vegas.

What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
More patience, perhaps. I seriously can’t think of anything else. Time?

What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I can’t think of any specific dates, but I think Labor Day weekend was an interesting sort of turning point for me.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Really honestly reflecting on and letting go of the residual emotional effects of my divorce. Moving on and freeing myself to decide on the what and how of current and future (platonic, romantic) relationships.

What was your biggest failure?
Stretching myself to my limits in a bad way, which resulted in lots of stress, exhaustion, and eventually a DUI.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Besides the common cold, no more than a few bruises– to the ego and to the body.

What was the best thing you bought?
My new laptop. Plane tickets. Spinach pancakes.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
My dearest friends, for sticking with me and handling my weaker moments.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The regime. Myself. A couple of other people, but my reactions to those didn’t last very long.

Where did most of your money go?
Bills, bills, bills.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Visiting Seattle. Pez’s GenArt win. Forming BU!B v2. Visiting San Diego. Halloween. Z&A’s wedding. Too many things, actually.

What song will always remind you of 2006?
“Sexyback” (Pez’s fault.)

Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Happier.
thinner or fatter? A smidge thinner.
richer or poorer? Same, I think.

What do you wish you’d done more of?
- Slept.
- Danced (balboa).
- Read.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Beat myself up.

How will you be spending Christmas?
Running around OB. Probably volunteering at some homeless shelter for a spell. Alternately being mushy and absurd. Loving the one I’m with.

Did you fall in love in 2006?
YES! Oh yes yes yes yes yes. How I love my truly fair.

What was your favorite TV program?
“Arrested Development” via Netflix. I also rekindled my love for “Fraggle Rock” that way.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
People piss me off on occasion, but I can never hold on to that kind of angry energy enough to hate anyone. Would rather spend energy on shit that matters to me.

What was the best book you read?
I have been unable to finish reading any books I cracked open this year. Feh.

What was your greatest musical discovery of 2006?
Rapidshare (thanks to Fluffer.) Oh, and Jim Bianco (thanks to Thelmasue).

What did you want and get?
More confidence. Less drama. The ultimate motherfucking partner in crime.

What did you want and not get?
From last year’s review: “More money to spoil my self and my friends with.”

What was your favorite film of this year?
The only one that comes to mind (and rightfully so): Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28. I got treated to a mud bath/spa thing, and a birthday party/winter bbq in my honor. Quite possible I got treated to a nice dinner out, too, but I can’t remember.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not having gotten a DUI. It’s cramping my style. Not to mention my pocketbook.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Back to black.

What kept you sane?
- Pez, Gabe, Jake, Darren. My peeps, yo.
- Music, sweet music. Always.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don’t think I fancied any particular celebrities. I may even have stopped crushing on Ewan McGregor.

What political issue stirred you the most?
Any and all. I’ve pretty much crawled under a rock, news-wise now. It’s sad.

Who did you miss?
My mom. My sister. My brother. Occasionally Muunkie.

Who was the best new person you met?
Did I meet anybody new this year? Feels like everyone I like now, I’ve known forever already.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
Determination and hard work can really pay off. But sometimes you just have to pause, let things go, and Good Stuff ™ happens too. (Hey, I never claimed to be particularly eloquent.)

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

~ Keep on churnin’ ’til the butter comes. ~

and

~ I get by with a little help from my friends. ~
