... and getting the flock out!!! Below is a portion of a message just sent to a new Tribe friend.
==============================
We haven't escaped Hurricane Country yet. Departure is set for post-evening rush hour November 8th, the day we close on our current home. If I had my way, we'd be getting the heck outta Dodge before the ink was even dry.

I so totally loathe the whole Florida mentality. Spent my 4 decades fairly evenly split between the MD/DC area where I grew up, and S. Brevard County. Bounced between the two depending on which side of the family was less of a pain in the butt. Love 'em all, but even they can't smooth the animousity and disgust that overwhelms me every day I look outside only to see an over-abundance of concrete and idiots. Been wanting for too long to start carrying a gallon jug of barbeque sauce in my van because I'm liable to take a huge chunk out of one of these jerkwads. Yeah, definitely time (past time) to move on.

Everyone I've spoken with in Arkansas has been so utterly fantastic! No pretense, no bullshit. Just genuine, down-to-earth folks who still practice simple daily courtesies with which I was raised. Geez- try to offer a friendly smile and/or wave to a stranger in my townhouse complex and it can be met with any reaction from, "Who the f*ck are you?!?" to "Ya wanna buy a rock?" Stick a damned fork in me. I'm done!

If you're ever out our way, you'll have to stop by at least for a cup of coffee, soda, or something. Friends are always welcome, ya know?
==============================
Then there was the incident Thursday afternoon...

Rock Star: INXS

And the winner is:

**insert suspenseful drumroll here**

Marty Casey!!! I'll never buy another INXS CD if it ain't. As sweet and talented as MiG Ayesa is, his future lies in motion pictures. I don't even want to get started on spewing my sheer disappointment with J.D. Fortune, whose fate will hopefully be sealed by his karma.

Resist the urge... Oh, crap... can't stop it!!!

I would sincerely hope that INXS' esteemed veteran members are looking towards the future. Seriously, why allow merely an updated rehash of the musical formula they created not quite a generation ago? And why on earth would such a tight-knit family risk losing their reputation over selecting someone with all the dedication, integrity, and compassion of a jonesing tweaker.

Until Mr. Fortune realizes that he can't peg everyone as a potential mark, and until someone calls him on his manipulating, back-biting, unprofessional behavior, and thinly-veiled narcissism... Hell, maybe the guy just hasn't had enough of sleeping in cars yet.

Whew- I feel better now. CLEAN-UP ON AISLE FOUR!!!

I'm 99.9% convinced that the Apache County government is run by monkeys. Our 20 acres was registered into their database 2 months ago. At that time we were told that it would be 6-8 weeks until the residents of Casa del fugi recieved its newly assigned physical address. Last week one of the simians reported that the timeframe from registration has jumped to an insane 4-5 MONTHS!!!

Hell, the owner of the full 155 acres sent 'em GPS corner coordinates for our 20 and everything. I'm about ready to head the crew outta hurricane country to become squatters on our own dang property!!!

No, I ain't sweating Ophelia. However, if Katrina had hit east central Florida... /me shudders

I'm not into the whole Independence Day crowd scene any more. Having been reared as a die-hard "Fireworks on the Mall" Beltway Brat, this is like stripping gears. Maybe it's too many years spent overcoming the instinct to dive to the floor upon hearing loud, spontaneous popping noises. Maybe I've inherited, via prolonged proximity to Vietnam Vets, a knee-jerk reaction to the smell of cordite. Maybe it's sanity self-preservation (mild xenophobia?) courtesy of my PTSD.

Regardless, maybe last night's manic mode is something a few folks might consider worthwhile reading...

Considering life at Casa del fugi has been turned upside down for the past few weeks, I'm a relatively happy camper now that we've all earned this breather. But I know damned well that this break won't be nearly long enough. Come Monday it's full steam ahead once more in preparation for our move to Arizona.

Big items on the to-do list:

1) Contact special needs school liason.
2) Shop moving & storage companies.
3) Sort, store, auction, donate, pitch...
4) Invite folks for dinner to break the news.

... So little time...

Still haven't had the heart to tell Mom yet that we're heading out west. My sister knows, but I've sworn her to secrecy. I haven't mentioned it specifically in my Spymac blog, either. That would be a really shitty way for her to find out- especially still recouping from her surgery, ya know? I just hope she doesn't pop my ID into Google anytime soon.

Going to have to tell her soon, though. But sure won't be until after hubster has recovered from his psycho mother's impending visit next week.

Great News!!!

First, update on Mom. Had a great visit with her on Thursday, her birthday. For a lady who's just had an emotionally and physically grueling major surgery, she was positively radiant. In addition to a lovely pair of sterling silver and freshwater pearl earrings I made with my own li'l paws, I was happy to fill her special request: Mom was craving a triple-scoop Vienna Mocha Chunk hot fudge sundae from Friendly's. I hope she savored every decadent bite. BTW, the docs believe they removed all the cancer, so NO chemo- Yippee!!! She goes in for her post-op on Monday. Thanks for everyone's positive energies, prayers and support. You were all a huge part of this miracle, believe it! {{{hugs}}}

Second... By the Grace of my HPs I was given a rare gift today. I am now officially in the recovery double-digits. Of course, I didn't do it alone. There's zero damn way that could've ever happened...

Finally, got the deed warranty for our 20 acres. The parcel is just east of the Petrified Forest. We plan to be outta Hurricane Country by early August. I can't wait!!! Still need a temp place until our home is ready. More will be revealed, huh?

As of 6:00 pm this evening (it's still Friday to me until my head hits the pillow) Mom was still in surgery. According to my uncle they were getting ready to begin the reconstruction around that time. I sure didn't expect to hear from Mom tonight. However, I haven't heard from my stepdad. Knowing him, he's keeping a watchful eye at her bedside. I have faith that everything went well, but I'd rest much easier with just a quick confirmation of what I already feel in my gut. Regardless, this tired, stressed chickeroonie goes back on active Mommy duty in roughly 5.5 hours. Time to feign sleep...

Oh- wanted to share a recent creation, enjoy!

Surgery- Clarification...

Thanks for everyone's support. The one going under the scalpel is not me, but my awesome mom. Ironic thing about the timing is that this life-extending surgery is to occur less than a week before her birthday. I'm just kinda surprised that she couldn't/didn't try to schedule the surgery afterwards. Then again, Mom's always been a crafty one. THIS year she won't be getting any spankings! Probably few, if any hugs, either. Ah, heck... she turns to pudding over shoulder rubs and back scratching.

... just killing the last 15 minutes before making an auto-bid on a rare item. I'm going to win it, too, if the others are asleep at the switch. The item is currently at $86.01. I'm going to put in a max bid of $201.01 at less than a minute of the auction's close. I doubt anyone's counted on it selling for that much. And, yes, I can and will cover this ammount if I win. Love me a good, old-fashioned eBay snipe-fest!!! /me laughs maniacally...

One of the many domestic tasks that lay ahead of me this week is tackling the unmanageable mass of clothing my family has collected. It's all clean, thank goodness. It's just multiplied almost as rapidly as Tribbles do when fed. This mundane exercise should be easily dispatched by first sorting into smaller piles: outgrown kid clothes to be donated to their daycare, unneeded adult clothes to be donated to Goodwill, the boys' current clothes, hubster's stuff, my stuff. During the sorting process all stray socks go into a large box. The boys can help me match 'em up later. Gawd- I loathe folding clothes...

Like a fish needs a bicycle, but here it goes... If anything, I might use this for Tribe stuff only. I already have a fairly well-read blog on Spymac. The bells & whistles there ain't the greatest, but I've always been one for loyalty and consistency. Besides, I've got more than enough websites with which to get really funky!!! Thanks for visiting...
