In the Hindu system of deities, Shiva and Shakti intertwine in a constant state of divine passion, representing the eternal regenerating forces of the universe. They also represent the universal polarities within us all: Shiva, the limitless force of pure consciousness; and Shakti, the primordial energy of creation. When Shiva and Shakti unite, Shiva gives form to Shakti's raw potential. Their union creates all levels of manifestation and realization of the eternal state of being in the heart.

Shiva and Shakti first meet in Anahata, the place of the heart. Shiva, residing in the crown, is content and dreaming in his own dominion, being both part regent of all he surveys.

Shakti calls to Shiva, saying, "Awake, my lord, and descend into life with me. Trust me, my lord, I am only here for our union and for your highest dreams; please believe that your dreams are also mine.

"Within me lies your own fullfilment as well as the resolution of your fears of departing from the luxury and comfort of your own heaven. Through me lies the path of your own transformation.

"If you do not believe me, you will remain, dreaming forever, in the realm of heaven. If you choose not to manifest in creation, do not answer my call. If you are not going to become all that you are destined to be, choose to stay asleep."

And hearing her, Shiva chooses to answer her call.

Chakra by chakra, she pulls him down from his head and his heart, down from his intellect and idealism. She is joined by her dark sister, the raging and sexual Kali, who arouses Shiva from his slumber and brings him into the fiery core of his resistance and fear.

Through the fire and passion of Kali and with the loving and wise guidance of Shakti, Shiva finds his home in Shakti and through her is fully realized and fulfilled. It is from their union that all of creation forever flows.

When allowed to flow safely, passion brings the gift of joy. Nectar from the gods, the sharing of joy is a potent sacrament, a nourishing drink that sweeps energy into the upper chakras, opening the heart and leading to union and grace.

The major motivating factor in
all relationships is the
willingness and desire to
remain honest and sincere in
words, thoughts and deeds.

The power to remain honest
and sincere can only be
realized in the
Present moment -

Being totally present with
oneself and the other right
where you are -
Now - The Moment
