Thoughts from the Glam Goth Diva

Pan's Labyrinth

Just came home from seeing this.
WOW
This is promoted as a fairy tale for adults.
That it is a dark fairy tale of the most complex and searching natuer. The film is stunning, the creatuers are both frightening and alluering. The tale made me cringe with both anticipation and horror. There is nothing cady coated about this story, but it is absolutley enthralling.
It is subtitled, and it is gory, however the gore is amazingly well done. (I still had to hide my eyes I can not handel gore at all)
This is not a kids movie, one couple brought a child to it and aside from the fact that reading subtitels for a kid has got to be boring if not a chore, on top of that the kid was freaked over the nasty gore.
I don't want to ruin any plot if you have not seen this but if you like fantasy films especialy dark fantasy films this is a must see.

I loved this movie. While it was graphic, the scenes were relevant to the story.
It was amazingly done, and the layers made it interesting and riveting.

I saw the movie on opening night in SF. I agree, it is not for kids. Then again Fairy Tales were orginally for adults.

Something very interesting about this movie. I know many people who hate this move. Why? It was not a Disney style movie and did not have a happy ending.

Like all Fairy Tale this one has a moral. Our finest hour is not with glitter and gold like winning the Super Bowl. For some of us it is how we deal with tragety and tyranny.

Brilliant is it? I found this one of the best films ive seen, not just recently, but in years. Its a great modernization of the oft times disturbing moral fairy tales of Grimm and the like. I raved about it on my blog as well!

Well, if Gigi recommends it . . .
then I have to see it! Can't wait to see you at Toast in a few moths. And I think that I met your fiend from the previous post at Spikes!

Many hugs and much love - Jeannie -

Damn typos!
I'm sure there will be moths, but I meant months and I am equally sure that he's a friend rather than a fiend (although that might be intriguing . . )!

Wonderful
Saw it last night. While we were not expecting to have to read subtitle we still enjoyed it immensely. A lot of great films are lost to the masses because they feel that a subtitled movie detracts from the film. However I feel that when a film is made in another language you lose something when you dub it over to english.

My opine
I saw this movie and thought that it is about a little girl who becomes addicted to heroine. The heroine helped her to overcome the attrocities that she witnessed. The fairy tale became the hallucination that allowed her to deal with the reality. Without revealing too much, there were three women, two died and one survived. The strong will survive... I think this is a good movie though a bit depressing.
