Random Ramblings of Gilly the Bean

Emma, my faithful companion, appears to be sweet and innocent. And mostly she is. We go up to Victrola and sit outside and she's sweet to everyone who walks by and even to the passing dogs. However, she feels she has another mission in life: to protect Victrola (and my house, for that matter) from pigeons, squirrels, and other similarly sized beings (that can include cats, rats, possums, and crows).

So, today we're sitting outside Victrola, enjoying the sun and random conversations an... read more

Made it back last night. Glad to be home, good trip overall. I get a few days of rest before heading back out again. Woohoo!!!

It's quiet here without the dog (won't pick her up until after I get back after the weekend). Nice to look out on Seattle's familiar territory, my house, my yard, my life (as it were).

I'm happy for being able to continue to have good coffee although I'm going to miss those pain au chocolat!!!!!! Oh well, c'est la vie!

....I'm sitting in our lovely "home" in Durfort, France (don't try to find it on a map). Wondering why we chose to open the rose wine that was in the fridge, cause it's pretty bad. Most other wines I've been drinking (and the 10 or so of us have gone through at least 6 bottles a night) have been good.

This part of the trip has been very relaxing. The requisite tour of the AirBus factory for Mark and the trip to Albi to the Toulouse-Lautrec museum for me. A trip to "the book village" ... read more

For many years I created art on the theme of fear. It was an something that I knew from an incredibly deep level, based on an image that came to me during a drawing exercise. The image was that of pointy triangles (daggers?) coming toward a pair of eyes (mine). I could bring up the image and feeling whenever I tried, and it was always incredibly intense....and at a soul level.

Today as I wandered through Paris, I stopped in at La Memorial de la Deportation. An incredible monument to th... read more

Travelling with my 73 year old mother has taught me a lot... about patience, about my mother's personality, about the positive effects of wine on thoughts of homicide (justifiable, of course). She's a good woman, but I am so so so so so so so so so so so so glad to be alone. We had a good time in Paris and Burgundy and Tours. We drank wine and saw some Chateaux and visited with a friend of hers.

Now I'm back in Paris. I have a small apartment for the week and I will try to act as un-... read more

My Testimonials

December 22, 2004
Jill is really great.
I met her at my favorite cafe where everyone sees each other every day...but not a lot of people actually talk to each other. Jill actually talked to me. She gets the Adventure Girl seal of approval.
