A Poem For Gin
August 22, 2007
I want to acknowledge Gin as a fine poet. Many famous poems have been written using a kind of cut and paste method, something today's poets call "found poetry." All poets draw on something already there and rearrange them into something new, so this is not a new concept. We call Gin's poetry "Refrigerator Poetry" because she uses a set of virtual magnets found on an internet site. Where the words come from is not so important; what she does with them is often astounding. You will find them on her blog and here and there on posts in her tribe. They are worth looking for! And, by the way, all the other complimentary things said by others about Gin are all true.

Gin is absolutely one of the funnest friends I have on tribe, I remember the first time I watched her post, standing back laughing my head off at the responses people gave her. Gin has such a wonderful outlook on life, family and friends. She is always there too support you, all you need to do is ask. Her doors are open, you just need to say hello. She has a great ability to look past faults and not judge people. BUT don't mess with her or your in for some trouble.

I couldn't ask for a better partner in crime! I've had so much fun working on events with Gin, I didn't even care if anyone else liked what we did! I'm proud and afraid of how similarly we think! She's such a great all-around friend; a precious find. I love you, Gin!

Gin and I have known eachother since 4th grade. I think we knew we were like sisters right away. I have fond memories of swimming at her house, walking the trails and picking blueberries. As the years went on, we may have separated a bit, but true friends always find eachother. If it wasn't for Gin, I wouldn't have had daycare for my son when I moved back to MA. If it wasn't for Gin, I wouldn't survive most chaos. She is so strong, and I strive to be like her. I enjoy raising our children together, and I admire her for all that she has little e doing. It's nice to talk to someone who understands. It's even better to talk to someone who has the same strange sense of humor as I do. My big sister by four months, I rely more on you than you could ever know. Happy Birthday! True are you, my heart does soar, with you in my life, I'm not sad anymore! Thank you for being exactly who you are! Love, Simmy!

I currently live with my fiancé, a big dude with a motorcycle fetish and a machine gun. He's horribly hairy and even more horribly possessive. I stay with him because I figure someday he'll crash that motorcycle while he's carrying that machine gun and I'll get the house. But in the meantime, you should know that he supremely disapproves of me socializing on the internet and has solemnly sworn to hunt down and fill with holes anyone who sends me unsolicited emails or friend requests.

I am a firm believer in the power of laughter. It is one of the strongest forces of human nature. Hence approximately 90 percent of what I say should be taken with a gigantic grain of salt. Between the laughter and the will to be my own person I get by. I love to write and be creative, even though both my sisters tend to overshadow me in most aspects. I speak my mind period. I expect my friends to do the same. I appreciate individuality and strive to teach my son how to be his own person and think for himself, which is something that seems to be done less and less in this world of late.

My life is about to change dramatically, and in an effort to keep up with the folks that make the most effort to keep up with me, I've trimmed down the friends list again.

It's nothing personal, just busy (in a happy way) out in the real world and trying to make my tribe time count as much as possible. De-clutter helps with that.
Imagine being able to feel your ribs creak when you breathe. Imagine being able to feel the cartilage and tissues surrounding your ribs shift as you turn or walk. Now, imagine you can't catch your breath and even when you can take a breath that seems deep enough, the stabbing pain in your ribcage brings tears to your eyes.

Tribe is more than a social network. When I think about how much I have invested here, in my blog and through the friends I have made, the thought of it just disappearing one day for no other reason than mismanagement really irks me.

Having said that, one of our own wants to buy tribe. This is a viable option and one that I think Tribe should consider. Who better to fix the problem than one of the users- someone who understands the true value of the site? people.tribe.net/mick... read more
I just finished giving this advice to the third person in less than a week. I think Nike was on to something though. Here's the context:

I seem to know no end of people who are in some type of limbo in their lives. Jobs, relationships, homes, whatever. They seem to not be sure what they want or need, or can't get what they seem to want. I told someone last night that I decided something, and when I decide to do something, it gets done. Does that sound cocky? What I meant was thi... read more

At the table, after finishing breakfast: "Mommy, I am F-o-u-l." Second attempt: "Mommy, I am F-o-ol." (Insert Mommy laughing hysterically) Getting dressed in the AM: "Mommy, hand me my S-H-I-T." (Oh, not so good...) Writing up a Post-It reminder to practice his ukulele: "P-uke" Aah. Kids.
