Little Miss Susie Homesteader

Went to hear David Gessel, from the new Tribe management, do a talk about copyright, DMCA, and other weird legal issues tonight at Dorkbot. After the talk, someone asked Dave why he and Carolyn decided to take on the unenviable task of managing Tribe. He said that one of the motivators was their fondness for Tribe because they'd met there (there were other reasons he listed).

It made me think about how many awesome, amazing people I'd met through Tribe- it still blows me away sometimes ju... read more

I took a big gamble back in June and July that my disabling health problems, and the deterioration of vision and increasing neurological problems, could be fixed with aggressive combinations of oral antibiotics rather than by taking the expensive and risky "step up" to injectible or IV antibiotics. On my request, the doctor agreed to trial me on a four-drug combo- Rifampin, Septra/Bactrim (2 antibiotics), and either Flagyl or Alinia, all at once.

I felt like I was going to fucking die... read more

Somewhere in the last few days I seem to have gotten over the hump of the agonizing Herxheimer reaction misery that's been dogging me for a couple of months. I wish it had happened last week, the timing here is about 6 days too late, but one of the interesting things that suddenly changed is that I'm really interested in talking and writing. My vision is still screwey. It's still pretty hard to read anything longer than a sentence or two, which means that my writing really rambles even more t... read more

author, Biodiesel Homebrew Guide: www.localb100.com/book.html

new bio:
I recently moved to Pittsboro, NC in a sustainability-minded community of 10 spread over three houses, who are mostly involved with Piedmont Biofuels (www.biofuels.coop).

I'm bi-coastal and spend time in North Carolina and the SF Bay Area and a lot of places in between and up both coasts. Always looking for a few people to swing dance with, go shooting with, do biodiesel experiments with, or going sailing with, and am always looking for people around Chapel Hill/Raleigh who are passionate about sustainable living, renewable energy, do-it-yourself, homesteading, interesting cooking, and the aforementioned shooting, swing dancing, welding, and martial arts.

old bio:
I'm a jack-of-all-trades builder/electrician, currently working on adding welding and machining to the skills life list, and am still trying to figure out how to make these skills useful in saving the world.

I"m from the anarchist/ gutterpunk scene originally. I've spent time in New York and Asheville NC primarily before moving out to the East Bay a few years ago to pursue city resources and superior shop space that I couldn't get back there.

the last few years I've been spending a lot of of time among rightwingers and fundamentalists cause they're interested in renewable energy (obviously outside the Bay Area) - Im living some 'commie pinko faggot meets the Jesus People' experiment.

organized East Bay DIY Skillshare Conference (200-2003ish) with the Tinkers Workshop and the East Bay anarchist scene

organized charity build group Builders' Circle

started open-source backyard-biodiesel project
