Eleanor is one of about four people I've met online over the years (and that has been quite a number) with whom I would genuinely want to have a beer and converse in person. I keep trying to get away from e-culture, but her wit, charm, humor and perception conveyed through even the shortest messages keep pulling me back. I am pretty certain in a past life Eleanor ran a whorehouse in the Storyville District of New Orleans where such taboos as intelligent conversation with the opposite sex were practiced. And the libations flowed freely. Of course.

The mixtapes that Eleanor made me 15 years ago are still the soundtracks to my dreams. I never want to know the titles to the songs or the artists and have fought with and run screaming away from people who evilly sought to "inform" me.

Elenor turned herself into a tortoise. I asked, “but why a tortoise, Elenor?” She replied, “for patience.”

The mountain lions may leave a little bit of fur around the hooves after they have chewed off all of the meat. Thousands of tiny frogs chant their ancient chant in the wetland. Jackrabbits chase shadows under stark constellations.

I circle our land like a vulture searching for the last pulse of life. Surrounded by the crutch of beauty, there are no distractions from who I really am. The dozens of fragrant daffodils playing delirious sentinels in my meadow are exquisite. What am I doing here... read more

Now, I want to stand up for the glorious Jude Law and his be-littling experience with the press. He DID just get out of a pool and was putting on his shorts, yes? SHRINKAGE. It's all SHRINKAGE. Us women don't have to worry about that stuff. On the topic of Jude Law, I wonder if anyone else has a somewhat dualistic attraction to the opposite sex. For myself, there is aesthetic attraction, and then there is sexual attraction. These types of men difer greatl... read more

He and everyone in his hummer were killed when they drove over a land mine. He was 23 years old, and had planned to be a minister. He had helped start an orphanage in India when nobody else wanted to. He loved to write poetry, and to climb mountains. He always wore black, and was always kind to people. He loved classical music, and metal. He lived in Alaska all of his life, which he loved. I had only met him twice, when he was a t... read more
The past few days, I have been listening to music from Lebanon and from Israel. So passionate, romantic, seething with the urge to brush the hand of God with their music and songs. I can feel the breath of my ancestors upon me, the dirt and the rock and the vibrant spirit that pulses through the earth itself.

(I save my mysterious Scorpio parts for other things...) Today I celebrated with a good cleansing cry alone in a the parking lot of the courthouse, and then on to happier things. I built lovely "thatched roof" faerie houses under the redwoods with my daughter, and we had a mini-picnic while my son was at camp. I enjoyed a birthday CD from myself, with the cello works of Charl... read more
