The Spice Must Flow

I tried to write something all literary, but it turns out that being loaded with narcotics doesn't make you Anton Artaud, so we'll go with the flow.

After many promises of "we've nearly got it typed." "We're starting chemo today." "Opps we need this additional test.' ... Finally, My very persistent and careful doctors have an answer. It's a T cell Lymphoma with a leukemia component. So far it seems to prefer my lymph nodes blood and spind, so no apparent involvement if the liver, kidneys or and of those other really scary organs. It took time to nail it down because it a rare type. I may get a paper written about me! Woohoo!

The good news it that because of all their research they know what kinds of cells we're dealing with. We have a defined chemo protocol now. Started it tonight. So far so good. no nausea. The Prednisone(sp) has me a little wired up right now. When I finally have to go to sleep, The nurse has a trazodone with Atavan thrown in for good measure. And if that doesn't work, we add my favorite new narcotic, Fentanyl. A word about drugs kids... they end when you leave the hospital so don't overdo it.

So this is where it is it at. I am survive this. I have the great doctors. I have a killer support network. I an eating and walking. I ready to go with whatever life throws at me next. I am centered ans know myself well. I just have a feeling that things are already going well for me.

Where’s gobo? Finally the truth is revealed!

I gotta’ say, deeply appreciate all the “I hope you’re getting well” and “we miss you, come back soon” notes I have received over the last few weeks. I am also honored (and sometimes amused) by the rumors and speculation that have been swirling around my absence. Thank you my friends for thinking of me.

So here’s the skinny...

At first, I had a nasty cold and was staying home to speed my recovery so that I could get back to the party full force. But the cold lingered on and on. So after about 6 weeks, I went to the doctor to find out what was up. I’d love to use a little humor to share the results with ya’ll, but its easier to just come out with it. The doctor tells me that I’ve come down with a touch of the Leukemia. I go to Stanford tomorrow to start treatment. I’m told that my condition is very treatable and a little research tells me that my specialist at Stanford is nationally recognized as one of the very best. Those of you that know me well know that I am in the habit of fighting hard with wit and guile for what I want. This situation is no different. My feelings toward this whole thing are confused, of course. At the same time, the better part of me is feeling very positive. I have been preparing myself for a big change for some time (I just thought I’d be moving to go to school.) My mind and spirit are very flexible right now. I know how strong I am. If something like this has to happen to me, this is the time for it.

But can the clubs run without Gobo in charge of everything? Hell yeah!!! :-) I didn’t start this scene, and I didn’t start The Box. The club passes from leader to new leader and survives every time. I can tell you a bit about where things in club land are going. As I said before, I have been planning to leave town for a while. We at The Box have spent the last year actively preparing for this time of change. (My cohort’s training has been exceptional and rigorous, if I may indulge my ego for just a moment ;-) Julian, Disconnect, Syndael, Stiletto, and Grey are absolutely prepared to take The Box over, keep it going, and continue the improvements you’ve all enjoyed. So fear not. I hear that it’s been pretty strong down there last few weeks, and I expect it will still be when I come for my next visit.

Unfortunately, January’s FATE is canceled. I really wanted to have a final show, but it’s just not possible this month. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the party. I have! I DO intend to recover, so I DO have some future plans for FATE. They’re just on hold for now.

Being the clubin’ pirate that I am, you know I have something up my sleeve no matter what the circumstances. Keep your eyes open for the pay Gobo’s bills benefit show. Coming Soon!

AND, OPENING FEBRUARY 1st 2008, the First Friday in February… something insidiously sinister and new at THE BLUE LAGOON… details to be announced soon. So, SC’s Friday night goth club tradition will continue after all? Of course it will. Hooray!

So, that’s the news for now. I’ll keep you all informed as new things happen. I’ll be letting everyone know where their hiding me because visitors rock! (hint hint ;-) And please, do not forget to support the clubs!

You are actually just that normal guy, the guy from the office, the guy with wife and kids, but you have nothing to live for, and you have just had the worst day of your life! Now they are all going to find out what what pain is really like!
