Memorial Day Weekend in Coarsegold/Fresno

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/goddessfrochic/blog/b7d7dd42-a4d2-4422-8280-6edaccca4215"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/d18/459/d1845992-a33c-4b1e-b2ee-b31991c650e4.thumb" width="65" height="48" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>I had a lovely time this weekend in Fresno and Coarsegold.

Friday - got into town later than usual, around 10pm-ish due to traffic and stopping off to take a nap (where are Van's pills when you need them, eh?) ;P

Saturday - headed over to the ranch and saw some people that I haven't seen in a long time. It was a nice Saturday all around. I even remembered to hydrate myself. Woo hoo! I drank, chatted with old friends, watched Borat, talked a little writing with peeps (writing conference... hmmm), and was even propositioned to be someone's Bachelor Party. (No, not be AT the party, BE the party.) LOL!

Sunday - spent some time with my brother before we headed out to a family dinner (me, him, his wife, our mother and her husband, and my sister-in-law's parents) where it was announced that they are six weeks pregnant. (I'm going to be an AUNTIE!) Yay! After brunch, I went with my brother, his wife and mother-in-law to spread the love to other family members. Later we hung out in Tower, then the girls went home, and my brother and I headed home ourselves... only to make a pit stop to Borders for me and then to see Pirates of the Carribean 3. Then it was home (meaning our mom's place). We didn't go to sleep until 4am.

Monday/Memorial Day - My brother left to see his brother-in-law and his family to tell them the good news. Then we all went out to brunch and afterwards we all headed back to the condo... and took naps. *lol* Then we all left around 4pm-ish from my mom's and headed home. (Ha, where I went to see Pirates 3 again with Chris.)

All in all it was a great weekend. Hugs to everyone. I love you all.

Have Goodness!

    </a>
										<div>I was just wondering something.

I've been looking up and finding variations on old drinks or new recipes to do with things like beer and whatnot.

Some friends and I do a drink/movie thing once a month per a calendar which has monthly recipes (for the drink portion, of course)... and this month is 'screwdrivers'. Aside from one of the girls being allergic to orange juice (she uses tangerine juice or something citrusly comparable), it got me thinking... are there any variations of the old classic? I mean, a screwdriver is just vodka and orange juice... and replacing the orange juice just makes it a different drink altogether. I think the most I've been able to find is replacing the vodka with something like rum... although I'm a little wary to try rum and orange juice for some reason. (This coming from the girl who has been drinking Red Roosters lately... but then again, I already like Bloody Marys so...)

But really, IS there a new spin on the old 'screwdriver' drink?</div>

<div>To all my fellow animal lovers...

There was a recall recently of cat and dog food due to contanimation. According to the article linked below, "An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070317/ap_on_bi_ge/pet_food_recall

I thought I'd pass on the information. If the link for the article doesn't work, here's a link to the site with the recall lists.

										<div>"Ultimate Woman's Fantasy"

In a recent Harris On-line poll 38,562 men across the US were asked to identify woman's ultimate fantasy. 97.8% of the respondents said that a woman's ultimate fantasy is to have two men at once.

While this has been verified by a recent sociological study, it appears that most men do not realise that in this fantasy, one man is cooking and the other is cleaning. </div>

"Paprika" by Satoshi Kon

    </a>
<div>The other night I went through Yahoo movies (like I do) and made note of the movies that I'm interested in seeing. I don't usually see all of them. My luck usually makes it so that a lot of movies come out the same weekend, and I have to pick and choose. Thank gawd for Netflix! *grin*

One of the films that I saw (which I believe comes out in May) is "Paprika" (http://www.sonyclassics.com/paprika/). Per its Yahoo movies page, the synopsis is: A machine allows therapists to enter patients' dreams. When it's stolen, all hell breaks loose, and only a woman therapist (nicknamed "Paprika") seems able to stop it.

The trailer is very pretty... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcUyB8hl8ro

Interesting note - the voice of Paprika/Chiba Atsuko is done by Megumi Hayashibara (who is the voice of Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop, Haruka in Love Hina, Lina Inverse in Slayers, and Ranma-girl from Ranma 1/2... just to name a few) and the voice of Osanai Morio done by Koichi Yamadera (who was the voice of Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop). Just random stuff I thought was cool. *grin*

The film is by Satoshi Kon, the same man who brought you Perfect Blue, Millineum Actress and Tokyo Godfathers (the last one I haven't seen). I hope to see it when it comes out. I wonder if it has an English voiceover cast. Probably not.</div>

<div>If My Life Were A Soundtrack

So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc).
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question, type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.

+++Some interesting choices... some that don't make sense - but then again, that's my life... *lol*+++

    </a>
<div>There have been some songs that I've found myself listening to more than usual. Comfort songs, I guess you can say. Before when I needed a 'pick me up', I'd just listen to a round of "Amburger &amp; Wootbeer". Lately I've been finding I don't necessarily need a giggling pick me up when I'm driving... more something mellow that just makes me feel content and calm. There are a number of them, but here are only a few.

"It Only Hurts" by Default
[I think with this song, it's mostly the lyrics than anything else, but I do like the melody. Plus, the way the guy sings it, it feels real to me. Also, I've felt this song before.]

Can hold my breath only for a little while
Until reality starts sinking in
Once again I'm settling for second best
Turn the page and skip to the end
To where I swore that I would try since the last time I crossed that line
In the back of my mind

I know

It only hurts when your eyes are open
Lies get tossed and truth is spoken
It only hurts when that door gets open
Dreams are lost and hearts are broken

Miles away promise from a burning bed
Two worlds should never collide
One word would end it if you ever heard
Tear the page out that reminds me
When I swore that I'd be strong now the next time has come and gone
Well maybe i'm wrong

I know

It only hurts when your eyes are open
Lies get tossed and truth is spoken
It only hurts when that door gets open
Dreams are lost and hearts are broken

I know what your feeling
It's hard to believe in someone, someone who's not there
I know that your waiting
'Cause love is worth saving but only for so long, so long, so long

I swore that I would try since the last time, the last time

It only hurts when your eyes are open
Lies get tossed and truth is spoken
It only hurts when that door gets open
Dreams are lost and hearts are broken

It only hurts when your eyes are open
Lies get tossed and truth is spoken
It only hurts when that door gets open
Dreams are lost and hearts are broken

"Goodbye Beautiful Day" by Aviatic
[For me, it was the piano that hooked me. I just love melodic piano. And the lyrics are quite beautiful.]

Time just withers away
Stealing day after day
The moon calls, the night falls
Goodbye beautiful day
Seems time never can stay
Just keeps running away
The stars fly and hearts cry
Leaving nothing left to say

refrain:
Goodbye beautiful day
I must be on my way
Bring the rain to wash the pain
I'm sorry I can't stay
Goodbye beautiful day
That's all I have to say
Come tomorrow I'll be gone
I'm sorry I can't stay (Sorry I can't stay)

Time always has a say
Slowly slipping away
It's gone now yet somehow
There's no telling time today
This time I'll go away
And I'll be gone to stay
We all know we'll all go
That's all I have to say

refrain (3x)
---
"Dreamgirl" by The Dave Matthews Band
[I fell in love with this song when I first heard it on the radio. I'm a fan of Dave Matthews Band, but this song - it was just peaceful and beautifully romantic and sweet. Very relaxing... and it scores a story idea that I have perfectly.]

I would dig a hole all the way to China
Unless of course I was there
Then I'd dig my way home
If by diggin' I could steal
The wind from the sails
Of the greedy men who ruled the world

Still you're my best friend
And after a good, good drunk
You and me wake up and make love after a deep sleep
Where I was Dreamin', I was Dreamin' of a
Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl

I was feelin' like a creep
As I watched you asleep
Face down in the grass,
In the park, in the middle of a hot afternoon
Your top was untied
And I thought how nice
It'd be to follow the sweat down your spine

You're like my best friend
and after a good, good drunk
You and me wake up and make love after a deep sleep
Where I was Dreamin', I was Dreamin' of a
Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl

Caught by a wave
My back to the ocean
It knocks me off my feet and
Just as I find my footing
Here you come again
Dreamgirl, aww Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl

*Deep in, Deep in
Deep in, Deep in
Deep in

"Anywhere" by Evanescence
[I'm already a huge fan of Evanescence, and Amy Lee's voice is amazing. This song is off their album ORIGIN (which came before FALLEN). It's just beautiful to me. I love it for its romance and beauty.]

Dear my love, haven't you wanted to be with me
And dear my love, haven't you longed to be free
I can't keep pretending that I don't even know you
And at sweet night, you are my own
Take my hand

refrain:
We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where love is more than just your name

I have dreamt of a place for you and I
No one knows who we are there
All I want is to give my life only to you
I've dreamt so long I cannot dream anymore
Let's run away, I'll take you there

refrain

Forget this life
Come with me
Don't look back you're safe now
Unlock your heart
Drop your guard
No one's left to stop you

Forget this life
Come with me
Don't look back you're safe now
Unlock your heart
Drop your guard
No one's left to stop you now

refrain
---
"Secret" by Maroon 5
[I think this is my favorite song off their "Songs About Jane" album. I love the lyrics, and there's just a touch of sex/sensuality there that just makes me smile.]

Watch the sunrise
Say your goodbyes
Off we go
Some conversation
No contemplation
Hit the road

Car overheats
Jump out of my seat
On the side of the highway baby
Our road is long
Your hold is strong
Please don't ever let go Oh No

I know I don't know you
But I want you so bad
Everyone has a secret
But can they keep it
Oh No they can't

I'm driving fast now
Don't think I know how to go slow
Where you at now
I feel around
There you are

Cool these engines
Calm these jets
I ask you how hot can it get
And as you wipe of beads of sweat
Slowly you say "I'm not there yet!"

I know I don't know you
But I want you so bad
Everyone has a secret
But can they keep it
Oh No they can't

Prairie Oysters &amp; Pick Me Ups

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/goddessfrochic/blog/66abc2a1-a7b0-460d-8e04-3be7dccc02f5"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/6f9/e5c/6f9e5c4b-8a7e-48b6-8195-babb7c2e7e3e.thumb" width="44" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>So while watching Studio 60 this past Monday evening (right after Heroes *grin*), they mentioned a drink that's supposed to help with hangovers. It's called a Prairie Oyster (don't worry, it doesn't have any oysters in it).

Prairie Oyster

1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoon Tomato Juice
1 whole Egg Yolk
2 dashes Vinegar
1 dash Pepper
Pour in order in a wine glass taking good care of not breaking the yolk.

It got a four to five out of five martini glasses from most of the user reviews and apparently is featured in the anime Cowboy Bebop (which in some parts of the states is its other name).

Now if someone can get me the exact ingredients/recipe of the "pick me up" drink from the movie Back to the Beach, that'd be awesome. So far, I've only found one other person online who's looking for the exact ingredients. This is all he had to say.

During the movie, after a night of drinking several "Stunned Mullets", The Big Kahuna is left with a bad hangover. Michael then makes him a "pick me up" that seems to cure hangovers. I was curious if anyone could catch what the "pick me up" was made of? So far I was able to catch the last 2 of 4 ingredients. A scoop of coffee and a can of pepsi. The first two ingredients look like it might be some sort of alka seltzer and asprin. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Maybe I'll just have to watch the movie again although they don't focus on Michael all the time while he's making it.

That's all. *waves*</div>

    </a>
<div>I wanted to write about my trip downtown yesterday afternoon.

Okay, so I have blogged before that my car was broken into and my purse stolen (with it various contents that were in my purse like my copy of the book The Phantom Tollbooth as well as my social security card as I was interviewing with temp-agencies and busineses for a new job).

That was last year in March. I didn't rush since I HAD a job... and what does one really need a social security card for aside from a secondary proof of identification for work?

So seeing as I have time on my hands (a LOT of time), I figured Why not? So I went for my morning walk, came home, cleaned some, rested, took a shower, dressed and drove on to one of my favorite places to drive of all time... DOWNTOWN!

Now, I found the place okay from the directions I wrote down, but I ended up parking down the street at the opposite corner of the building. I walked down the road to the building and saw the address on the archway. As soon as I walked through the archway, I immediately saw on the other side a parking garage. Could have saved my ass a walk, but hey - my fat ass needed it.

There were a few door options to enter. The one that said "courthouse" I quickly walked away from. Across from the courthouse, there was a line of people waiting outside with about five people waiting in line, all separated from anything else in the walkway by the proverbial stretched out ribbon between two metal poles. Last in line was an Indian couple (dot, not feather). I asked the lady, "Excuse, what is this line for?" She quickly said "Oh!" and pointed behind her. Pretty sure the line wasn't for her ass, I said slowly, "What is it for?" The man then said, "To get in." I looked up at the door and saw an x-ray machine complete with mini-conveyer belt (like at the airport) and a metal detecter... with a guard stationed at both. I quickly stood in line behind the couple and waited. I noted that the people inside had to go as far as take off their shoes... some resulted in the guard at the x-ray machine to make a notation on his binder. Expecting to be heavily inconvenienced, I silently prayed that this event in my life go as smoothly as possible.

When the line advanced enough so that the couple was next with me behind them, an elderly Asian man got in line behind me with an elderly Indian lady (dot, not feather) behind him, both shorter than me. When it was my turn to be 'next', I watched the Indian couple go through this and that to get in. I think I aged about 50 years by the time it was my turn. While the couple was still being "investigated", a Mexican man and his family (wife with stroller and at least one wandering child) walked up to me on my left side (the line formed off the right), and the group save the man stopped. The man walked up to the door and was about to open it when he stopped. He turned to look at me. His wife said something to him (in Spanish), and the man just stood there contemplating what his wife said and looking at me, the people waiting in line behind me and the door in alternate intervals. Occasionally he made gruntal noises which made no sense (you know, the kind you make when you're confused and words fail you). So the guard monitoring the metal detecter sees this, gets up from his chair, and walks toward the door. (Now mind you... both guards have been looking not only at the person they're dealing with but the people in line as well. They seemed to be keeping tabs on who was inside and who was next.) So the Mexican looks at me and says something that's in neither English or Spanish, and I simply say back to him, "There's a line to get in. You have to go back there [I point]... behind that woman." I heard him say "okay" and start to go back with his wife when the guard (I shall call him Kronk, and you'll soon know why), pops out of the door.

Kronk: What seems to be the problem here?
me: [trying to be the voice of reason seeing as I was the whitest person in the group and the only one seeming to be able to speak English] I was telling him that there's a line to get in, and that the end of it is behind that lady back there. [the line at that moment consisted of me and two other people]
Kronk: Where are you going?
me: Social Security office on the second floor.
Kronk: Social Security? That's on the second floor. [in my mind, I hear myself almost say, "Really? I thought it was on the second floor." but keep my mouth shut]

Kronk: [looking at me] You're next in line?
me: Yes.
Kronk: Are you sure?
me: [pondering why he'd ask that] Yes.
Kronk: So you're next?
me: [getting a little irritated but remaining calm] Yes.
Kronk: [pointing at me] You were next. [referring to the other two] Not them. [looks back at me] You?
me: Yes.

Kronk then proceeds to tell the man and his family (even though we had already fixed the situation and the group was headed toward the back of the line) that there's a line to get in and that they have to go to the end. Before returning back inside, he gave me another look as if I was some criminal mastermind mastering the art of 'line cutsies'. He goes inside, and I watch him out of amazement of his stupidity, and then turn my attention back to the door I'm waiting to go in. The blonde guard with the white gloves on (I shall call him Surfer mainly for the look on his face, the blonde gel-styled coif and the vague 'there was homework?' look on his face that resembled an old jock classmate of mine in high school) waves me in. Kronk is still standing by the door he exited and re-entered from, and I step toward my door, gives me this look of "Hello? It's your turn." even though I'm already walking and opens his door for me.

Needless to say, I go to my door and open it for myself.

Kronk closes his and walks back to his post.

I simply walk up to Surfer and wait to be instructed, feeling it's going to be THAT kind of day.

Surfer: Where are you going?
me: Social Security office, second floor.
Surfer: ID please. [I hand him my ID, he looks at it, and then hands it back to me] Okay.
me: [putting my ID back in my wallet in my purse, I wait for him to say something else... when he doesn't, I do] Is that it?
Surfer: No. [he was much nicer than Kronk] Please put all your purse and other items in here. [refers to light grey plastic tub between us at the beginning of the conveyer belt to the x-ray machine] Anything in your pockets...

I set down my purse and empty my keys and the paper with the handwritten directions of how to get to the office that were in my coat pocket. Surfer x-rays them and then tells me to go on through.

I shit you not! I step completely through, and as I'm halfway turned around to look at Surfer, I hear a funky beep... as if someone's swearing and a censor board bleeped out the word. Surfer waves me back through (meanwhile Kronk is sitting in a chair against the wall wataching ever so entertainedly).

Surfer: [tapping the area of the conveyer belt with his white gloves] Place your shoes right here.
me: This could take a while. I double-knot them.

As I'm undoing my shoes, I entertain the notion of just kicking my feet up on the conveyer belt. Thinking better of it, I take off my shoes and follow instruction.

me: [waiting but getting nothing] Do I walk through again?
Surfer: Wait. [after my shoes go through x-ray] Okay, now.
Kronk: [as I prepare to walk through the detecter] Sunglasses.

I walk back to Surfer, hand him my glasses, and then step on through.

No beep.

Surfer: Thank you.

And that was it. He leaves my tub and my shoes out of my reach and waves the next person in. As I grab my stuff, I see there's NO PLACE to sit to put my shoes on. I walk over to the wall out of anyone's way and drop my purse and attempt to efficiently put my shoes back on, all the meanwhile with Kronk looking at me like I'm about to spring my latest scheme any moment.

After I finish with my shoes, I follow where I earlier heard pinging sounds down the hall to the elevator and rise to the second floor. Social Security is practically right when you get off the elevator. When you walk, there's a HUGE sign that says "Auto Check In" and directs you to this ATM-like machine in the corner. As I start off to it, the chubby, Wilfred Brimley sans the facial hair, hat and glasses looks at me from his slouched position on his chair and says, "You need help?" I look at him, dreading if he should have to get up (yes, he looked like that), and I point in the direction of the ATM-thing and said, "I'm going to check in." He nods, says okay, and goes back to his busy day of slouching.

Now the lady before me was taking forever it seemed so I thought there was this HUGE sophisticated process. When it's my turn, I see a screen and a 10-key. On the screen is says:

Press "1" if you need a Social Security card
Press "2" if you need a replacement Social Security Card
Press "3" if... 'something else entirely'

AND THAT WAS IT!

So I press "2", and the screen tells me to please take the ticket once it is printed and to have a nice day or something like that. As the paper printed out, I thought about the woman before me and wondered what issues she had with the machine. Then I sat down.

Since not having eaten anything all day (and also not having slept since roughly 3pm-ish the day before), I notice that I'm shaking a bit. I have no gum or mints with me to give my tummy the illusion of being fed so I start taking deep breaths in hopes of calming my body down a bit.

Meanwhile numbers are being called.

The number ticket system reminded me of the DMV. The numbers issued when I was there were a letter followed by three numbers. When I was there, the letters were A, B, and C, and the numbers called were shown on an electronic board. The numbers were called out by the people seated on the other side of the counter behind giant cut-out squares in which they could close or open a large panel of wood that acted as a door. At the moment only two were open.

Numbers were being called... names were being called... the waiting room people started to grumble a bit... a baby started to giggle... a little girl in pink pushed her stroller around...

The B# person didn't show up so I was next. No paperwork needed, just my ID and a signature. Simple as that. I shall be getting my card in the mail in roughly 7-10 business days.

So I left, paid my three dollars to get out of the lot to the very nice black male attendant there and headed to the closest drive-thru I could find (which happened to be a McD's). After two hamburgers (no pickles) and a Sprite, the shakes stopped, and I was much better.

The rest of the day was spent going to the dollar store for some little things like a trash can for my bathroom and some dishcloths. I got some really cool air fresheners for my bathroom and the laundry room (where the catbox is). Other than picking Chris up later that day from work, nothing much else happened.

And thus ends the tale of my Monday afternoon trip to the Social Security office in downtown San Jose. </div>

    </a>
<div>One of the things I hate about my period is the cravings. I always have these weird cravings that I can never seem to sate, and it's not crazy stuff either... it's either sweet or salty (mostly sweet and never chocolate - which I stay away from during Aunt Flow's nasty visits), but it's like my tastebuds are uber-sensitive and picky so it can't be too this or too that. I never find anything perfect or even close to sating the crazy cravings I get.

Right now, it's not so bad. I've been craving sushi (and not just Aunt Flow cravings, either). Still, sushi can be expensive... NEVER go to sushi when you're starving else you'll be paying enough money that's equivalent to a new Mercedes.

Still, I'm craving sushi. Apparently there's a meeting of great minds at a sushi place in Santa Cruz every Friday... and one of these days I'll make it down there. Until then, I'll just continue searching for something suitable for my cravings. Either that or drink. LOL!</div>

<div>So the other day I saw this commercial with K-Fed doing his asshat thing but on one of the wrestling shows... and apparently he goes at it (verbally) with John Cena... LOL!

Watch K-Fed get body slammed... (the announcers refer to him as Britney Spears husband, but I didn't see it until AFTER their announcement of divorce... perhaps proceedings are still underway, but watching him get body slammed... PRICELESS!)

Wish there was more. LOL!

Roofers Questioned In 5-Alarm Santa Clara Blaze

(CBS 5 / AP / BCN) SANTA CLARA Investigators will question roofers who were working atop a condominium development Tuesday to see whether they may have started a five-alarm blaze that destroyed the entire four-story, 39-unit project and shot flames and a thick plume of smoke about 100 feet into the air.

The blaze consumed portions of the Rivermark complex near the intersection of Montague Expressway and Lick Mill Boulevard. It took firefighters about an hour and a half to bring the blaze under control.

The residences were still under construction and had no one living there. No injuries were reported in connection with the blaze.

While the official cause of the fire was under investigation, fire investigators believe the fire likely started on the roof of the complex.

Roofers were working on the building before fire broke out, said Santa Clara Fire Department spokesman Dave Parker.

"There was a tar pot down below, and they were pumping tar to do some patching," said Santa Clara Fire Department spokesman Dave Parker.

The project –- a $25 million, six-story, 430-unit apartment and condominium complex owned by Prometheus, a San Mateo development firm -- was halfway through the construction process.

Witnesses said the building went up in flames that were seven stories high. The fire also sent a massive cloud of thick, black smoke into the air that could be seen from as far away as Milpitas, about 3 miles from the fire location.

Firefighters moved quickly, and nearby homes and a shopping complex were spared from the flames. An eight-story building next to the fire site and also under construction was saved by firefighters.

"This building couldn't be saved, so the idea for the initial attack was to save the adjacent building, and that was touch and go for a long time," Parker said.

Fire dispatchers initially reported the fire as a three-alarm blaze around 2 p.m. Tuesday, but it quickly grew to five alarms.

Firefighters from various South Bay agencies, including the San Jose, Milpitas and Santa Clara County fire departments were dispatched to assist Santa Clara city firefighters in combating the blaze.

Firefighters were especially mindful of the possibility of the fire spreading, having learned lessons from a fire in San Jose that destroyed the Santana Row complex while it was under construction in August 2002. The fire at the retail and housing development caused more than $100 million in damages. The cause has never been determined.
