<div>Its my last day of "vacation". In quotes because I spent 2 days at the dentist (cracked a tooth sunday, and therefore needed a new crown. also needed some crowns last week. yikes.) and spent another 3 days with a 102 fever hacking up a lung and watching law and order reruns. oh my lord am I ever ready to go back to work.

But before then - anyone wanna hang out tonight and drink icey cold beverages on this super hot day?

YAY for cold beer!</div>

    </a>
										<div>Even though it is super stupid that CA decided to have two primary elections and cost the state double the money instead of only having one - since they *did* do it - the least you can do is make it worth all the extra money and go vote.

If you want a nonpartisan voter guide (though somewhat libral - but hell its SF) because you were too lazy/busy to read the voter guide - the Bay Guardian does a *great* job of recommendations. I actually found this after I voted and had I read it first - it would have saved me a lot of time because they pretty much have the exact same stance on everything as I do. Read it here: http://www1.sfbg.com/entry.php?entry_id=6247&amp;volume_id=317&amp;issue_id=376&amp;volume_num=40&amp;issue_num=31&amp;l=1

My endorsements:
No No NO on 98
Yes on Prop A (SF) Also see email below.

I received this email from a good friend of mine who works here in SF. If you have a moment, please read.

Hello friends,

There is an important decision being made on June 3rd
by San Francisco voters that will have a major impact
on the health of San Francisco Public Schools and on
the lives of our students and teachers (like me). As
you may know June 3rd is the date for the state primary
election, and one item on the ballot is Proposition A.
Proposition A is a $198 parcel tax that will raise
money to support teacher recruitment and retention as
well as to replace antiquated technology in schools.

The problem:
In San Francisco we have the highest cost of living in
the state, but 13 other cities pay their teachers
more. Every year I see colleagues and friends leave the
teaching profession or move away due to the lack of a
living wage for teachers in San Francisco. Also since
Proposition 13 passed in 1978 limiting increases in
property taxes California's per-pupil spending has slid
to be among the lowest in the nation. Many other cities
around the state have passed parcel taxes like
Proposition A as a way to boost the investment being made in
public education.

A solution:
The money raised by Proposition A will support all
public schools, but it will also bring in around $1
million to charter schools in San Francisco, including
Gateway. We would receive between $300-$330 per student
for the upcoming school year. These funds are extremely
important at this moment considering the fact that our
state currently faces a deficit of $16 billion and
our governor has proposed education cuts of over $4
billion for the next year. Voting YES on Proposition A
creates local funding for San Francisco schools that
could help offset these budget woes.

Here is a breakdown of what Proposition A would do for
public schools in San Francisco:

* Make salaries competitive with surrounding school
districts to assure that San Francisco has the best and
brightest teachers.
* Provide additional incentives for teachers who work
at schools with high teacher turnover and in
hard-to-fill subject areas.
* Double training and professional development
opportunities for teachers to stay abreast of the latest
teaching methods.
* Increase teacher support and accountability,
including mentoring for new teachers and greater assurance
that teachers who aren't meeting standards leave the
classroom.
* Proved block grants to the schools showing the most
growth in student achievement.
* Improve academic innovation and upgrade technologies
and computer systems at our schools.
* Regular independent audits to ensure that all
proceeds from the parcel tax are spent in the manner
approved by voters.

Proposition A has been endorsed by many government and
community leaders in San Francisco, including Senator
Dianne Feinstein; Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi; Mayor
Gavin Newsom; Supervisors Aaron Peskin, Bevan Dufty,
Tom Ammiano, Sean Elsbernd, Ross Mirkarimi, Jake
McGoldrick, Michela Alioto-Pier, Carmen Chu, and Chris Daly;
as well as most of the San Francisco School Board and
United Educators Union. In addition the proposition
was recently endorsed by the SF Bay Guardian, and here
is an excerpt of that endorsement:

Every year, hundreds of excellent teachers leave the
San Francisco Unified School District. Some retire
after a career in the classroom, but too many others —
young teachers with three to five years of experience —
bail because they decide they can't make enough money.
San Francisco pays less than public school districts
in San Mateo and Marin counties and far less than
private and charter schools. And given the high cost of
living in the city, a lot of qualified people never even
consider teaching as a profession. That harms the
public school system and the 58,000 students who rely on
it.

It's a statewide problem, even a national one — but
San Francisco, with a remarkable civic unity, is moving
to do something about it. Proposition A would place an
annual tax on every parcel of land in the city; the
typical homeowner would pay less than $200 a year. The
money would go directly to increasing pay — mostly
starting pay — for teachers. The proposition, which has
the support of almost everyone in town except the
Republican Party, is properly targeted toward the newer
teachers, with the goal of keeping the best teachers on
the job past that critical three to five years.
If you're interested in learning more and possibly
getting involved, please visit www.voteyesonpropa.com

Thanks for your time! Now go vote! Polls are open until 8 pm tonight.

<div>One of the reasons I love living in the Bay Area so much is that the local paper has articles by Violet Blue and Tristan Taormino - two widely published sex authors who always have funny/insightful commentary on all kinds of alternative sex and relationship practices. This one is on Tristan's new book on demystifying open relationships. YAY! The more information people have the less likely they are to relate all open relationships to "nightmarish Texan polygamous fundamentalist sects" (love that quote) which I'm pretty sure I did at one point in my life as well before I became more open minded and educated. Hooray for people who actively work on that mission. Read the article if you have a moment (SFW):

										<div>Wanna go to this with me?

SF Oysterfest http://sfoysterfest.com/
when: Saturday May 17 (noon) (also on Sunday, but thats Bay to Breakers)
where: Fort Mason Festival Pavilion
why: because they actually have a contest called "Shuck and Swallow" how could it not be a good time?
how much: advance tix are $20

This year's Oysterfest pairs plenty of the famous aphrodisiac mollusk with bubbly, beer, and a pack of dedicated gluttons stuffing their faces in a shucking-and-swallowing competition. Of course, if bivalves aren't your thing, then you should still come for the music: Saturday features Celtic punk rockers Dropkick Murphys, Hollywood brats Juliette Lewis &amp; the Licks, and the vaudeville extravaganza of the Yard Dogs Road Show. Sunday's lineup is just as tantalizing, including a set from She &amp; Him, the dynamic, dreamy-eyed duo of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel. - Tanya Feldman

										<div>I have finally run out of places to put shoes. I gave away over a dozen pairs to goodwill a few months ago. But having a client who is a shoe manufacturer is not helping my substance abuse problem At All.

I have special shoe shelves in my closet that hold 30-40 pairs. A rack on the back of my closet that holds another few dozen. A built in shelving unit in my closet that is full of special occaison and white shoes in boxes (white ones get dirty if left out). I have 4 shoe boxes just full of flip flops. I have about two dozen pairs of shoes that are homeless and in a pile in front of my closet. And I have 4 new pairs that got delivered to me today.

My neighbor has a shoe rack in the garage that has cobwebs all over it that I have been eyeing. I wonder if he would notice if it went missing?

*sigh*

The other option is to stop buying shoes. HA. Thats not *really* an option. But I'm working on buying only one pair a week. Dammit. Why are they so pretty and shiny?!?!

Note - picture above is NOT of my shoes. I would never buy jellies. Ew.</div>

<div>My phone has been dead since the middle of last week. So all those texts you sent? I didn't get them. Its not that I don't love you, I do - really! I just didn't get them. BUT I sucked it up and bought an external battery charger that is arriving tomorrow. I so can't wait. It really is a crackberry! You can expect responses tomorrow when I am fully charged. :D</div>

HALP!  Got an old blackberry?

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/goodlittlenaughtygirl/blog/cc3ef8bd-f0c3-4b88-b767-23cb6573ff1f">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/a08/2e8/a082e823-df5f-46ce-b539-6f7b63c28b5d.thumb" width="53" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>This is a picture of my old blackberry v 7250. I was trying to wait until Verizon finally got with the times and released the Blackberry Curve next month before buying a new one. Unfortunately there was an incident with a bottle of wine that has now rendered my bb unable to charge at all. However my battery and the internal workings of the phone are just fine - I simply have no way to recharge my battery now that it is dead.

Not having a phone is driving me totally crazy. Top that off its my best friends birthday today and my sisters was last weekend and they probably both think I forgot because I didn't call.

I don't want to buy a new phone now because I tend to use them until they die and I really want the Curve! So to tide me over I was wondering if anyone had an old one lying around that I could borrow for a month or so. It doesn't need to have service, it just needs to be able to be plugged in and charged so that I can then swap the fully charged battery into mine.

I looked into buying an external battery charger but they are $30 and if I don't want to pay another $30 for shipping it will take over a week to get here. Lame.</div>

<div>Whirlwind weekend in Vegas. I slept 12 hours last night and I still don't think I've caught up. I am totally drained and devoid of the capability of rational thought it seems. The good news was that I thought my flight was at 3:15, turned out it wasnt until 3:55, so I was at the airport with my friends at 2....way too much time. Fortunately for me, the earlier flight was delayed and still had room, so I was able to get on that flight which left at 2:25. I love it when a plan comes together. It was fortunate on many ways, not the least of which was that I lost my parking ticket, but ran into a guy that was on my parking shuttle on the way to the airport so I followed him since I didn't even remember the name of the lot. So that worked out nice. Also meant I had time to get a mani/pedi which was REALLY needed after running around and dancing in heels all weekend. I'm sore, exhausted, and happy that I don't have to tell any stories about my trip. Everyone simply accepts that what happens in vegas stays in vegas. And really, thats for the best.</div>

    </a>
										<div>1) I volunteered to help with the Earth Hour festivities by helping my company switch out ALL our bulbs in the office for CFLs and will be giving away CFLs in my 'hood on Sat am and flyering for awareness and teaching people how to properly dispose of lightbulbs. YAY! If YOU want to help: here is the website: http://www.earthhour.org/ Earth Hour is from 8pm - 9pm on Saturday. Do things in the dark! I'm sure you can think of something! *wink wink nudge nudge*

2) I wrangled an invite to the Earth Hour party on Sat night being thrown in honor of Earth Hour by the Mayor's office. AND managed to wrangle a plus one so I'm going to go network and spread the green. woohoo!

3) Bought tickets for Red Sox v As opening day. Woohoo for baseball season! Go Sox!

4) I have dinner reservations at Circa tonight, which is where one of the contestants for the current season of Top Chef is the executive chef. Should be totally awesome. It is also wine night so its buy one get one free bottles of wine. Saucy! I'm sure I will review it on Yelp.

5) My back feels better. I threw it out over the weekend/Monday and am finally able to sit and not having shooting pains down my leg. Drugs are good.

6) Its sunny! and I get to leave work while it is STILL sunny! Yippeee!

7) I am still loving my new client. Even though I have to drive to Hayward every day (I get reimbursed for mileage and tolls, so thats nice) and I work wicked long hours. I'm still loving the challenge of it all! And starting next week I have to really step it up as I am de-facto promoted in job function if not yet in title and pay so will be juggling 3 clients at once. Almost at the big time!

8) I got notice last night that the CPA Board has all the items they need an my application is now complete. Bring on my license already!

9) I don't have to travel over the GG Bridge to get home today.

10) I'm alive!

I was thinking on my drive home last night about happiness and whether I am really happy or just pretending to be happy. And I decided I am really happy. Like really really happy. wheeeeeeeee!

**Photo is the first image that popped up when I googled "Happy" Right on!</div>

    </a>
										<div>Bacon flavored vodka.

Makes one pint

1) Fry up three strips of bacon
2) Add cooked bacon to a clean pint sized mason jar. Trim the ends of the bacon if they are too tall to fit in the jar. Or you could go hog wild and just pile in a bunch of fried up bacon scraps.
2a) Optional: add crushed black peppercorns.
3) Fill the jar up with vodka. Cap and place in a dark cupboard for at least three weeks.(No need to refrigerate)
4) At the end of the three week resting period, place the bacon vodka in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain out the fats through a coffee filter to yield a clear filtered pale yellow bacon vodka.
5) Decant into decorative bottles and enjoy.

Serving suggestion: Make BLTinis by mixing with tomato water. Garnish with a tomato wedge.

Oh yes. You WILL be seeing this over the summer at campouts. I'll let you know how it goes. Imagine throwing this in your bloody mary :D

<div>So maybe its because its spring, or maybe its because I've been getting laid but I definitely gots my mojo back! I am my old sassy self again. I missed feeling like this. Now if only I could cut my hours in half so I had time to get my ass back in the gym, I would be 100% awesome. Soon, soon. They keep promising its going to let up a bit and I'm starting to see the end. Not quite though. I get the distinct feeling that it is going to get worse before it gets better.

Also, meeting some of my girlfriends from college in Vegas in a few weeks for a birthday celebration that I had booked *forever* ago and completely left off my calendar (and if its not on the calendar it doesn't happen!). But got the updates from the ladies going today and was like "Oh yeah!!!!" I think I have forgotten what fun is. (And Promise you are going to kick my ass - but it is *that* weekend. You can spank me later.)

And I have 1600 unread messages in my personal email inbox. A testament to how busy I am.

BUT I will defintelybe dancing my ass off in the park on Sunday. Just look for the girl drinking champagne straight out of the bottle. I'm classy like that.

    </a>
										<div>I don't read a whole lot these days that isn't online, and that’s too bad because my "to read" list is getting a little out of hand (partial list below). So I want to start a book club. I want to read books and then I want to discuss them with people over snacks and booze. And I have a great apartment, but I hardly ever invite people over. I couldn't host 20 people, but 10-15 would be perfect. I'm thinking once every 6 weeks or so would be just right, depending on how fast everyone reads / how long the book is.

So here's an example of some books that I have on my list, in no particular order, not saying we have to read all these, just saying these are the books I already have on my list to read, so it’s a good place to start. So if these are books that tickle your fancy (or if you read them already and think I shouldn't bother….), respond here or PM me and I'll make sure you get the details. YAY for literacy!

As an aside - most of the books look to be in about the $9-12 range on Amazon, but I also live right down the street from the best bookstore in SF (that would be Green Apple http://www.greenapplebooks.com ). And they do a book club discount deal that came in handy with my last book club but I need to look in to the logistics on that. So maybe I can get them cheaper. (Confession - I already own / have on loan a good number of these books.)
