I actually saw an interview where a local tribal representative on Louisiana's gulf coast implying that when they called BP for crews and booms to protect a long contested wetland there was no response and the wetland was contaminated. He summed it up with "when the wetland is killed off the point will be moot and BP will get the mineral rights." Kind of a conflict of interest there, BP protecting wetlands it's coveted for decades.
