A fall down a flight of stairs on Thanksgiving left me rather shaken and stressed. My immune system crashed and I got a nasty bug that has been lingering. Just when I think I am better, a few days pass of no symptoms and it shows itself in another part of my body. Time to get serious with some kitchen magic. Today I created a new to me soup that I think you might like. I live in the woods in the city. I did not have the energy to make this from scratch but if you do, go for it. I usually make food with out a recipe and so the quantities depend on my mood and what is in my fridge. Add what ever you feel of the following in a large stock pot. Use any quantity you want:

Urban Witch Chicken Noodle Soup
1 organic free range roasted chicken ( I bought one roasted and just took it off the bone)
64 ounces of organic free range chicken stock
1 yellow onion sliced
3 cloves of garlic sliced
2 carrots sliced thin
3 stalks of celery sliced
hand full sea weed of your choice
3 cups of fresh nettles sliced
1/4 lb. green tea soba noodles broken 1/2 (if you want lots of noodles add more stock)
3 leaves of kale sliced very thin
1 1/2 c . Green cabbage sliced very thin
a few sprigs of parsley chopped
salt, pepper and lemon juice as desired

Saute onion in ghee or what you like. Add a little stock and carrots and cook til soft. Add garlic, noodles,nettles and rest of stock and slowly bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and chicken, celery and parsley. Cook 10 minutes on lowest heat. Add kale and cabbage. Season with salt, pepper and or fresh lemon juice and serve.
YUMMY!

tired of the doom and gloom? me too- so enjoy the Good News Reports:

I'm thrilled to report that we just won an important interim
victory in our long-term campaign to block Big Oil from drilling
in Alaska's spectacular Western Arctic Reserve, one of NRDC's
endangered BioGems.

Thanks to your support, most of the Teshekpuk Lake region -- one
of the most important tundra-wetland ecosystems left on our
planet -- will not be opened to oil and gas development for at
least 10 years.

This victory is particularly sweet because we fended off the
Bush Administration's plan to hand over this natural treasure to
Big Oil before it leaves office next January.

Thanks to years of court battles by NRDC and the tireless
activism of tens of thousands of online activists like you, we
did it!

Next, we will focus our campaign on Congress, in support of
legislation to permanently protect this world-class wildlife
habitat.

In the meantime, this home to more than one million migratory
birds, the legendary Teshekpuk Lake caribou herd, and the
threatened polar bear will remain undisturbed by toxic oil and
gas development for at least another decade.

Together, we succeeded in stopping the industrialization of this
magnificent Arctic wilderness -- and that's a victory for nature
that is well worth celebrating.

Sincerely,

How quick are we to form an opinion of a person, to come to a conclusion about them. It is satisisfying to the egoic mind to label nother human being, to give them a conceptual identity, to pronounce righteous judgement upon them.

Every human being has been conditioned to think and behave in certain ways-- conditioned genetically as well as by their childhood experiences and their cultural environment.

That is not who they are, but who they appear to be. When you pronounce judgement on someone, you confuse those conditional mind patterns w/ who they are. To do that is in itself a deeply conditioned and unconscious pattern. You give them a conceptual identity, and that false identity becomes a prision not only for the other person, but also for yourself.

To let go of judgement does not mean that you don't see what they do. It means that you reconize their behavior as a form of conditioning, and you see it and accept it as that. You don't construct an identity of that person.

That liberates you as well as the other person from identification with conditioning, with form, with mind. The ego then no longer runs your relationships.

As long as the ego runs your life, most of your thoughts, emotiones and actions arise from desire and fear. In relationships you then either want or fear something something from the other person.

What you want from them may be pleasure, or matieral gain, reconition, praise, or attention, or a strengthening of your sense of self through comparision and through establishing that you are, have, or know more than they. What you fear is that the opposite may be the case, and they may diminsh your sense of self in some way.

When you make the present moment the focal point of your attention-- instead of using it as a means to an end-- you go beyond the ego and beyond the unconscious compulsion to use people as a means to an end, the end being self enhancement at the cost of others. When you give your fullest attention to whoever you are interfacing with, ypu take past and future out of the relationship, except for practical matters. When you are fully present w/ everyone you meet, you relinquish the conceptual identity you made for them-- your interpretationof who they are and what they did in the past-- and are able to interact without the egoic movements of fear and desire. Attention, which is stillness, is the key.

How wonderful to go beyond desire and fear! Love does not want or fear anything.

If their past were your past, their pain your pain, their level of conciousness yours, you would think and act like them. WITH THIS REALIZATION COMES FORGIVENESS, COMPASSION, PEACE.

The ego does not like to hear this, becaue if it cannot be reactive and righteous anymore,it will loose strength.

When you receive whoever comes into the space as a Nobel guest, when you allow each person to be as they are, they begin to change.

Fantastic news! A federal court in California has just imposed
the strongest-ever protections for whales against an onslaught
of military sonar.

The new controls are the result of an NRDC lawsuit that demanded
the Navy rein in its deadly sonar before beginning two years of
maneuvers near the Channel Islands -- one of the world's most
sensitive environments and home to five endangered species of
whales.

The Navy itself estimates that the booming sonar would harass or
harm marine mammals some 170,000 times -- and cause permanent
injury in more than 400 cases.

U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper said the Navy's
existing plan for protecting marine mammals was "grossly
inadequate." And she has ordered the Navy to put a series of
precautionary measures in place -- many of them recommended by
NRDC -- that will go a long way toward protecting whales from
needless injury and death.

For starters, the Navy will not be permitted to use its
dangerous mid-frequency sonar within 12 miles of the California
coast, a zone that is heavily used by migrating whales and
dolphins. Sonar will also be banned in the Catalina Basin, an
underwater canyon with a high density of whales.

The Navy will also have to monitor for marine mammals -- from
the ship and from the air -- both before and during its sonar
exercises. If any marine mammals are spotted within 2200 yards
of the ship, the Navy will have to shut down its sonar.

These safeguards represent a giant leap forward in our
decade-long campaign to make sure that whales don't have to die
for the sake of military practice.

Needless to say, this fight is far from over and many more court
battles lay ahead.

But case by case, we are accomplishing what many thought
impossible: forcing the Navy to obey our environmental laws and
stop its needless killing of whales -- and all without
compromising military readiness.

Thank you for standing with NRDC in defense of the world's
marine mammals.

Sincerely,

Frances Beinecke
President

NO FEAR

Fear is the true root of all mishap.

A creator of victims, that starts as a

            small spark of insecurity.

Igniting our frame with the doubt of ourselves

            and our abilities to manifest that which is

            perfect for our growth,

            it multiplies in our psyche

            creating images many times their actual size

            blinding us to the vast possibilities within our grasp.

We become fascinated with fear's expansion

            feeling fully compelled to feed it.

Suddenly fear becomes larger than ourselves

            and we are lost within its grasp.

Better to live fearlessly.

Rip it from your heart deliberately.

Experience that eternal moment of freedom

            often mistaken for emptiness.

Allow love to flow in.

You'll never miss fear once it's gone.

It is only the anticipation of fear leaving

            that begs it to stay.

Let it go........

Fear will lie to you

            in its quest for survival.

Fear is necessary

            only to itself.

See the truth.

Know

No fear

Closer to my dreams
It's coming over me

I'm gettin' higher
Closer to my dreams
I'm getting higher and higher
Feel it in my sleep

Some times it feels like I'll never go pass here
Some times it feels like I'm stuck forever and ever

But, I'm going higher
Closer to my dreams
I'm goin' higher and higher
I can almost reach

Some times you just have to let it go (Let it go, let it go)
Leaving all my fears to burn down
Push them all away so I can move on
Closer to my dreams
Feel it all over my being (come and be)
Close your eyes and see what you believe

I'm moving higher (higher)
I'm going higher and higher and higher (higher)
Closer to my dreams (higher and higher)
I'm moving upward and over and beyond all I can see
Stretching out my arms like a dream
Move so close it's like a dream
I can feel you in my dream
Closer to my dream
I'm moving closer to my dreams

Sometimes it feels like you're never gonna change (never gone change)
Plus you never chose to walk away

Social Networking’s Next Phase

By BRAD STONE
Published in the New York Times: March 3, 2007

Correction Appended

SAN FRANCISCO, March 2 — Next week Cisco Systems, a Silicon Valley heavyweight, plans to announce one of its most unusual deals: it is buying the technology assets of Tribe.net, a mostly forgotten social networking site, according to people close to the companies’ discussions.

It is a curious pairing. Cisco, with 55,000 employees, makes networking equipment for telecommunications providers and other big companies. Tribe.net, run by a company with eight employees, has been trampled by newer social sites like MySpace and Facebook.

But along with the recent purchase of a social network design firm, Five Across, the deal will give Cisco the technology to help large corporate clients create services resembling MySpace or YouTube to bring their customers together online. And that ambition highlights a significant shift in the way companies and entrepreneurs are thinking about social networks.

They look at MySpace and Facebook, with their tens of millions of users, as walled-off destinations, similar to first-generation online services like America Online, CompuServe and Prodigy. These big Web sites attract masses of people who have dissimilar interests and, ultimately, little in common.

The new social networking players, which include Cisco and a multitude of start-ups like Ning, the latest venture of the Netscape co-creator Marc Andreessen, say that social networks will soon be as ubiquitous as regular Web sites. They are aiming to create tools to let ordinary people, large companies and even presidential candidates create social Web sites tailored for their own customers, friends, fans and employees.

“The existing social networks are fantastic but they put users in a straitjacket,” said Mr. Andreessen, who this week reintroduced Ning, his third start-up, after a limited introduction last year. “They are restrictive about what you can and can’t do, and they were not built to be flexible. They do not let people build and design their own worlds, which is the nature of what people want to do online.”

Social networks are sprouting on the Internet these days like wild mushrooms. In the last few months, organizations as dissimilar as the Portland Trailblazers, the University of South Carolina and Nike have gotten their own social Web sites up and running, with the help of companies that specialize in building social networks. Last month, Senator Barack Obama unveiled My.BarackObama.com, a social network created for his presidential campaign by the political consulting firm Blue State Digital.

Many of these new online communities cater to niche interests. Shelfari, a Seattle-based start-up, recently began a service to let book lovers share their opinions. This week it received an investment from Amazon.com.

Mr. Andreessen’s Ning, based in Palo Alto, Calif., is fashioning itself as a one-stop shop catering to this growing interest in social networks. Anyone can visit the site and set up a community on any topic, from the television show “Battlestar Galactica” to microbrew beers. Ning users choose the features they want to include, like videos, photos, discussion forums or blogs. Their sites can appear like MySpace, YouTube or the photo sharing site Flickr — or something singular.

Those setting up Ning communities can pay $20 a month if they want the site free of text advertisements delivered by Google. They also have the option of delivering their own advertising, as CBS does on Ning-based social networks for its shows “CSI” and “The Class.”

Mr. Andreessen said that even with its two acquisitions, Cisco might be underestimating the ease of combining technologies behind Tribe.net and its earlier acquisition, Five Across.

“The idea that Cisco is going to be a force in social networking is about as plausible as Ning being a force in optical switches,” he said.

Tribe.net, which developed the technology that Cisco is now acquiring, almost led this new social networking phase. In 2004, the U2 singer Bono approached the company and asked it to create a separate network for his antipoverty campaign, One.org, according to several former employees. Tribe.net, founded by Mark Pincus, a prominent Silicon Valley angel investor, decided to remain focused on building a destination site, like Friendster and MySpace.

Bono went on to create the One.org network with Yahoo. Mr. Pincus left Tribe.net in 2005 but repurchased the company from lenders last summer when it was nearly out of money. Today, Tribe.net is primarily used by artists who attend the annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert.

Executives at Cisco and Utah Street Networks, Tribe.net’s parent company, declined to comment on their deal or its terms. But people close to the discussions said Tribe.net would remain an independent site, while its underlying technology would go to Cisco.

Several former employees have left Tribe.net to start their own firms offering social network tools. Alexander Mouldovan, who had been a product manager there, started a company called Crowd Factory to design social networks for large companies. He is now building services for several telecommunications customers and says the new model makes more sense for Internet users.

“If I’m into fly-fishing, that is where I’m going to spend my energy online,” he said. “I don’t think it is easy for MySpace and Facebook to adapt and bend to the needs of individual brands.”

One challenge is getting users to join new social networks when there are few other members. For example, Google helped Nike design its soccer community site, called Joga.com, but it does not appear to have significantly attracted users.

“I think this will work for certain kinds of brands, and other brands are just barking up the wrong tree,” said Paul Martino, a former Tribe.net chief technology officer who is now the chief executive of Aggregate Knowledge, a service that taps the online behavior of other users to provide shopping advice.

Another challenge is persuading users to enter their information over and over when they join new online communities. To solve the problem, several firms are pushing a standard called OpenID, which would let users sign on and easily transfer profile information among social sites.

Marc Canter, a former Tribe.net consultant who has created his own social networking firm, People Aggregator, was an early supporter of OpenID. “Humans are migratory beasts, and we do not want to re-enter our data every time we join a new site,” he said. “Users own their data and should be able to move it around freely.”

Cisco is positioning itself for the day when mainstream consumers are spending much of their time taking part in these online communities. With the acquisition of Tribe.net, it is also trying to further its quest to become a consumer-oriented company. In the last few years, it has purchased the wireless router company Linksys and the set-top-box maker Scientific Atlanta, giving it a significant presence in many American homes.

Dan Scheinman, the mergers and acquisition chief who led the Linksys and Scientific Atlanta purchases, now runs a new division at Cisco called the Media Solutions Group, which has been responsible for the deals for Five Across and Tribe.net.

After the Five Across acquisition, Mr. Scheinman said in an interview that Americans were quickly changing their media consumption habits. He said his new group would let Cisco help its media customers, like TV networks and cable companies, develop their sites and move more of their content onto the Web.

“Part of our job is to form a relationship with media companies and deliver technologies and services to them, so consumers can consume what they want online,” he said.

Correction: March 7, 2007
An article in Business Day on Saturday about new ventures in online social networking for the workplace misstated the number of employees of Cisco Systems, which is reportedly acquiring technology to provide such services. It is 55,000, not 38,000. The article also misspelled the surname of the founder of a company called Crowd Factory, which designs social networks for large companies. He is Alex Mouldovan, not Muldoven.

Here are 100 gems from the Secret:

1. We all work with one infinite power
2. The Secret is the Law of Attraction (LOA)

3. Whatever is going on in your mind is what you are attracting

4. We are like magnets - like attracts like. You become AND attract what you

think

5. Every thought has a frequency. Thoughts send out a magnetic energy

6. People think about what they don't want and attract more of the same

7. Thought = creation. If these thoughts are attached to powerful emotions

(good or bad) that speeds the creation

8. You attract your dominant thoughts

9. Those who speak most of illness have illness, those who speak most of

prosperity have it..etc..

10. It's not "wishful" thinking.

11. You can't have a universe without the mind entering into it

12. Choose your thoughts carefully .. you are a masterpiece of your life

13. It's OK that thoughts don't manifest into reality immediately (if we saw

a picture of an elephant and it instantly appeared, that would be too soon)

14. EVERYTHING in your life you have attracted .. accept that fact .. it's

true.

15. Your thoughts cause your feelings

16. We don't need to complicate all the "reasons" behind our emotions. It's

much simpler than that. Two categories .. good feelings, bad feelings.

17. Thoughts that bring about good feelings mean you are on the right track.

Thoughts that bring about bad feelings means you are not on the right track.

18. Whatever it is you are feeling is a perfect reflection of what is in the

process of becoming

19. You get exactly what you are FEELING

20. Happy feelings will attract more happy circumstances

21. You can begin feeling whatever you want (even if it's not there).. the

universe will correspond to the nature of your song

22. What you focus on with your thought and feeling is what you attract into

your experience

23. What you think and what you feel and what actually manifests is ALWAYS a

match - no exception

24. Shift your awareness

25. "You create your own universe as you go along" Winston Churchill

26. It's important to feel good ( ( ( (((good))) ) ) )

27. You can change your emotion immediately .. by thinking of something

joyful, or singing a song, or remembering a happy experience

28. When you get the hang of this, before you know it you will KNOW you are

the creator

29. Life can and should be phenomenal .. and it will be when you consciously

apply the Law of Attraction

30. Universe will re-arrange itself accordingly

31. Start by using this sentence for all of your wants: "I'm so happy and

grateful now that.... "

32. You don't need to know HOW the universe is going to rearrange itself

33. LOA is simply figuring out for yourself what will generate the positive

feelings of having it NOW

34. You might get an inspired thought or idea to help you move towards what

you want faster

35. The universe likes SPEED. Don't delay, don't second-guess, don't doubt..

36. When the opportunity or impulse is there .. ACT

37. You will attract everything you require - money, people, connections..

PAY ATTENTION to what's being set in front of you

38. You can start with nothing .. and out of nothing or no way - a WAY will

be provided.

39. HOW LONG??? No rules on time .. the more aligned you are with positive

feelings the quicker things happen

40. Size is nothing to the universe (unlimited abundance if that's what you

wish) We make the rules on size and time

41. No rules according to the universe .. you provide the feelings of having

it now and the universe will respond

42. Most people offer the majority of their thought in response to what they

are observing (bills in the mail, being late, having bad luck...etc..)

43. You have to find a different approach to what is through a different

vantage point

44. "All that we are is a result of what we have thought" - Buddha

45. What can you do right now to turn your life around?? Gratitude

46. Gratitude will bring more into our lives immediately

47. What we think about and THANK about is what we bring about

48. What are the things you are grateful for?? Feel the gratitude.. focus on

what you have right now that you are grateful for

49. Play the picture in your mind - focus on the end result

50. VISUALIZE!!! Rehearse your future

51. VISUALIZE!!! See it, feel it! This is where action begins

52. Feel the joy .. feel the happiness :o)

53. An affirmative thought is 100 times more powerful than a negative one

54. "What this power is, I cannot say. All I know is that it exists."

Alexander Graham Bell

55. Our job is not to worry about the "How". The "How" will show up out of

the commitment and belief in the "what"

56. The Hows are the domain of the universe. It always knows the quickest,

fastest, most harmonious way between you and your dream

57. If you turn it over to the universe, you will be surprised and dazzled

by what is delivered .. this is where magic and miracles happen

58. Turn it over to the universe daily.. but it should never be a chore.

59. Feel exhilarated by the whole process .. high, happy, in tune

60. The only difference between people who are really living this way is

they have habituated ways of being.

61. They remember to do it all the time

62. Create a Vision Board .. pictures of what you want to attract .. every

day look at it and get into the feeling state of already having acquired

these wants

63. "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming

attractions." Albert Einstein

believe it's possible for you

65. Close your eyes and visualize having what you already want - and the

feeling of having it already.

66. Focus on being grateful for what you have already .. enjoy it!! Then

release into the universe. The universe will manifest it.

67. "Whatever the mind of man can conceive, it can achieve" W. Clement Stone

68. Set a goal so big that if you achieved it, it would blow your mind.

69. When you have an inspired thought, you must trust it and act on it.

70. How can you become more prosperous?? INTEND IT!!

71. 'Checks are coming in the mail regularly'... or change your bank

statement to whatever balance you want in there... and get behind the

feeling of having it.

72. Life is meant to be abundant in ALL areas...

73. Go for the sense of inner joy and peace then all outside things appear

74. We are the creators of our universe

75. Relationships: Treat yourself the way you want to be treated by others

.. love yourself and you will be loved

76. Healthy respect for yourself

77. For those you work with or interact with regularly .. get a notebook and

write down positive aspects of each of those people.

78. Write down the things you like most about them (don't expect change from

them). Law of attraction will not put you in the same space together if you

frequencies don't match

79. When you realize your potential to feel good, you will ask no one to be

different in order for you to feel good.

80. You will free yourself from the cumbersome impossibilities of needing to

control the world, your friends, your mate, your children....

81. You are the only one that creates your reality

82. No one else can think or feel for you .. its YOU .. ONLY YOU.

83. Health: thank the universe for your own healing. Laugh, stress free

happiness will keep you healthy.

84. Immune system will heal itself

85. Parts of our bodies are replace every day, every week..etc... Within a

few years we have a brand new body

86. See yourself living in a new body. Hopeful = recovery. Happy = happier

biochemistry. Stress degrades the bod.

87. Remove stress from the body and the body regenerates itself. You can

heal yourself

88. Learn to become still .. and take your attention away from what you

don't want, and place your attention on what you wish to experience

89. When the voice and vision on the inside become more profound and clear

than the opinions on the outside, then you have mastered your life

90. You are not here to try to get the world to be just as you want it. You

are here to create the world around you that you choose.

91. And allow the world as others choose to see it, exist as well

92. People think that if everyone knows the power of the LOA there won't be

enough to go around .. This is a lie that's been ingrained in us and makes

so many greedy.

93. The truth is there is more than enough love, creative ideas, power, joy,

happiness to go around.

94. All of this abundance begins to shine through a mind that is aware of

it's own infinite nature. There's enough for everyone. See it. Believe it.

it will show up for you.

95. So let the variety of your reality thrill you as you choose all the

things you want.. get behind the good feelings of all your wants.

96. Write your script. When you see things you don't want, don't think about

them, write about them, talk about them, push against them, or join groups

that focus on the don't wants... remove your attention from don't wants..

and place them on do wants

97. We are mass energy. Everything is energy. EVERYTHING.

98. Don't define yourself by your body .. it's the infinite being that's

connected to everything in the universe.

99. One energy field. Our bodies have distracted us from our energy. We are

the infinite field of unfolding possibilities. The creative force.

100. Are your thoughts worthy of you? If not - NOW is the time to change

them. You can begin right were you are right now. Nothing matters but this

moment and what you are focusing your attention on

Happy New Year!

With love, peace and joy,

Friends,
I've joined ColorOfChange.org's campaign asking President Bush to take decisive action to stop the genocide occurring Darfur, Sudan. I wanted to let you know about the effort, and invite you to do the same. By raising our voices now, we can make a real difference in the way our government addresses this crisis.
http://www.colorofchange.org/darfur
Since 2003, as many as 400,000 Black Africans have been killed and over 2 million have been driven from their homes, in what the UN has called the biggest humanitarian crisis in modern history. It's genocide, plain and simple, but no one is doing what's necessary to stop it. It's time for All Americans to take a stand against the genocide in Darfur.
Our voices should be among the loudest calling for an end to the mass murder of Black Africans, and, as citizens of the most powerful country in the world, we have a very real ability to make a difference. Speaking of the genocide in Rwanda, the late Senator Paul Simon said, "If every member of the House and Senate had received 100 letters from people back home saying we have to do something about Rwanda, when the crisis was first developing, then I think the response would have been different." Those voices, coming from every corner of America, would have echoed in our leaders' ears. Congress and, more importantly, the President would have been forced to act. It's a tragedy that there were not 100 people in each district to speak up for the Rwandans who were being slaughtered in 1994. We can't let a similar tragedy unfold today.
Let's take advantage of the opportunity that we have: let's get 100 people in each of the 435 districts in America to demand that our government stop dragging its feet and take decisive action to stop this genocide:
http://www.colorofchange.org/darfur
This week, the time is right to make our voices heard. Tens of thousands of people will march in Washington, on Sunday, April 30th, to demand that President Bush take the steps necessary to end the genocide and build a lasting peace. National media will be focused on the horrors of this genocide in a way they haven't been since it began.
The people of Darfur are victims of a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing and murder because they're from the same ethnic group as rebels fighting the Sudanese government. The government has used pre-existing ethnic conflict in Darfur to its advantage, arming and supporting Arab militia (known as Janjaweed) who carry out attacks on rural villages, killing large numbers of civilians, raping and assaulting women and girls, burning and looting homes and communities, and preventing emergency food, water and medical supplies from reaching refugees. As the situation worsens, the army and the Janjaweed militias are even attacking refugee camps in Darfur and across the border in Chad.
There is agreement that a UN peacekeeping force, with the authority to protect civilians and the resources necessary to do so, is the best hope to stop the killings. The United States, more than any other country, has the ability to make that peacekeeping force a reality. But while President Bush says that he cares about what's happening in Darfur, and even though he and Congress have officially called what's happening in Darfur a genocide, his actions suggest otherwise – he simply hasn't made Darfur a priority.
Why not?
The United States reportedly worries that pressuring the Sudanese government could interrupt easy access to terrorism-related intelligence. The administration would also have to apply real pressure on China and Russia, countries with veto power in the UN Security Council who rely on the Sudanese for access to cheap oil and therefore don't want to pressure them.
Essentially, our government is calculating that it's worth tolerating genocide, and the loss of hundreds of thousands of innocent Black lives, to avoid rocking the boat. But it can't continue to look the other way if we don't let it.
Now is the time to speak up. When we say enough is enough, it changes the political calculus, and it can force politicians to act. Let's demand that our government send a powerful message to the international community, the government of Sudan, and, most importantly, to the people of Darfur: we will do everything in our power to end the genocide immediately and to establish long-lasting peace and justice for the region.
http://www.colorofchange.org/darfur
Thanks.

The Invitation
by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain! I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it's not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, "Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Love is reckless; not reason.
Reason seeks a profit.
Love comes on strong, consuming herself, unabashed.

Yet, in the midst of suffering,
Love proceeds like a millstone,
hard surfaced and straightforward.

Having died to self-interest,
she risks everything and asks for nothing.
Love gambles away every gift God bestows.

Without cause God gave us Being;
without cause, give it back again.
Gambling yourself away is beyond any religion.

Religion seeks grace and favor,
but those who gamble these away are God's favorites,
for they neither put God to the test
nor knock at the door of gain and loss.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,

empty of it's furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

"The Blocked Road"

I wish I knew what you wanted.
You block the road and won't give me rest.
You pull my lead-rope one way, then the other.
You act cold, my darling!
Do you hear what I say?

Will this night of talking ever end?
Why am I still embarrassed and timid
about you?  You are thousands.
You are one.
Quiet, but most articulate.

Your name is Spring.
Your name is wine.
Your name is the nausea
that comes from wine!

You are my doubting
and the lightpoints
in my eyes.

You are every image, and yet
I'm homesick for you.

Can I get there?
Where the deer pounces on the lion,
where the one I'm after's
after me?

This drum and these words keep pounding!
Let them both smash through their coverings
into silence.

           -- Version by Coleman Barks,
                   from a translation by A.J. Arberry
              "Like This"
              Maypop, 1990

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Lord, would that I knew what is the desire of my Beloved; He
has barred my road of escape, robbed me of my heart and my
repose.
        Lord, would that I knew whither He is dragging me, to what
purpose He is dragging my toggle in every direction.
        Lord, would that I knew why He is stonyhearted, that loving
King of mine, my long-suffering Darling.
        Lord, would that I knew whether my sighing and my clamor,
"My Lord and my defense!" – will reach my Beloved at all.
        Lord, would that I knew where this will end; Lord, this my
night of writing is very long.
        Lord, what is this ferment of mine, all this bashfulness of
mine? – Seeing that you are mine, you are at once my one and my
thousand.
        Your love is always both silent and eloquent before the image
of my eye, my sustenance and my fate!
        Now I call him quarry, now I call him spring, now I nickname
him wine, now my crop sickness.
        He is my unbelief and faith, my light-beholding eye, that of
mine and this of mine – I cannot escape from him.
        No more patience has remained for me, nor sleep, nor tears
nor wrath; Lord, how long will he raid all the four of mine?
        Where is the house of water and clay, compared with that of
soul and heart?  Lord, my sole desire has become my hometown
and habitation*.
        This heart is banished from the town, stuck in dark mire,
lamenting, "O God, where is my family and retinue?"
        Lord, if only I might reach my city and behold the companion
of my Palace, and all that city of my friend!
        Gone then my hard road, the heavy load from my back; my
long-suffering Darling would come, carrying off my load.
        My lion-catching deer would drink to the full of my milk, he
whose quarry I am would have become my quarry.
        Black-faced night is then not the mate and consort of my day;
stonyhearted autumn follows not in the wake of my springtide.
        Will you not be silent?  How long will you beat this drum?
Alas, my veiled lip, that you have become veil-rending!
           -- Translation by A. J. Arberry
              "Mystical Poems of Rumi 2"
              The University of Chicago Press, 1991
*"The house of water and clay" symbolizes the human body where
the soul, coming from a spiritual land, must sojourn and the
original abode back to which it wishes to fly....
