In May of 2009 I participated in the Bead Unique Magazine Bead Swap. When I received the box of goodies from other beaders, I went to work and created 7 items to send to them. I was elated that October when I opened the Winter 2010 edition to find a little picture of one of my bracelets with my name beside it on the page describing the Bead Swap. In February of 2010, as I was opening the first storefront location of my bead store, I was contacted by Joanna Feller, Managing Editor of Bead Unique Magazine requesting the instructions for my Medallion Bracelet, stating that they had it in mind for their Winter 2011 issue (hitting newsstands in October 2010). I was both humbled and honored to even be asked. I quickly sent along the instructions for the bracelet, and waited.

A few months went by. I was asked for a few more sets of instructions, 2 of which I have sent along, and one which I have yet to get to (I'll get there I swear). I was beginning to give up hope on the winter issue when I received the fall issue, and near the back was a large teaser picture of my bracelet saying 'Coming in next issue'. Woohoo! Now I knew for sure that I would be in that issue! Yesssss!

So, without further adieu, I give you the Winter 2011 issue of Bead Unique Magazine, complete with my Medallion Bracelet article. The picture of my bracelet was taken by Pamela Hawkins, Editor in Chief of BU (you can visit her blog here). Thanks Pam for making my item look its very best. I appreciate it more than you could know :) . Here's to the first in a long line of fabulous articles!

New! Bindi Box Gift Set

You've all seen mine, now have one of your own!

I have converted a tiny tin box into a work of art that you can carry with you to shows! The box has a picture of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing on the front, and the words "Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did... except she did it backwards and in high heels!". What fun!
The inside is lined with a pretty piece of paper, and a little mirror is adhered to the top of the inside. All of the adornments are protected with more coats of varnish than I care to talk about ;)

This Gift Set includes the beatiful box, a tiny bottle of Bindi Adhesive, and a Swarovski Totem Bindi in Crystal AB!

Don't love the bindi? Looking for a different color? Contact me, and we'll see what we can work out :)

There's a lot more to come, so keep an eye out!

Happy Dancing!

I'm constantly in search of ways to market myself. My jewelry, my dance; it seems never-ending. Some things work sometimes, and then they don't work as well the next. Some things seem not to work at all, and then a sale comes and makes you think twice. I've tried blogging, posting photos on flickr, and tribe, and facebook. I've tweeted, and personally handed out cards. What's my new thing? A Facebook page for my business Gypsybeads. Apparently I need 1,000 fans to secure my Gypsybeads name, so please add me, and ask your friends to add me. Altogether we've got to know 1,000 people right? I appreciate the help!

As you can see, I've gotten at least somewhere in the last few weeks with my Bead Embroidery project. This section of the bag will be the flap. I've added a Swarovski Crystal Pearl in Copper, Natural Dyed Pearl in Teal, and some Vintage Bermuda Blue Rivolis, as well as contemporary Swarovski Bicones. I can't tell you how much I LOVE this Gold-Bronze Toho. I was before just considering it as an accent color, but am now more likely to make it the main color. To keep up on my exploits in the beady world and beyond, check out my blog at www.Gypsybeads.Blogspot.com and let me know what you think!

A lot's been going on in the last month. First off, I bought a new house! It's coming along nicely. The hardwood floors have been laid, and we have a few pieces of furniture now. We had our first get-together last night, and it went very well I thought.

Secondly, I got married yesterday! No really, I got married. We took a trip down to the dmv (why is the marriage license place in the dmv?), and filed the paperwork with our witnesses Shannon and Wade, had lunch at the Olive Garden, and had a party that night with a few close friends to celebrate. I'm so very glad that we didn't spend a ridiculous amount of money on our wedding, and bought a house instead. In the aftermath, I am happy to have a place to bead today! I'll be posting new items on my website www.gypsybeads.etsy.com, so check it out and let me know what you think!

It's been just over a week since I've moved into my new house. The livingroom has a fantastic red accent wall; the bead room is painted, and the hardwood floor is finished there. I'm so exhausted! I'll be getting into my beads soon in my temporary setup. I picked a few boxes from the pile to get me started, but I have no clue how I'm going to fit all the rest of them! I'll post as I get things finished.

I have recently been reminded that I haven't blogged in ages. This is mainly due to the fact that I have been using a huge block of my time preparing for buying a house. We did find a house we liked in a very short period of time, and are now getting ready to close on it in a week or so. To answer the question that I'm sure is burning in all of your minds.....Yes, I will have my own bead room! It is a lovely little room that opens out onto a little balcony (that needs a little work), and it has the best light in the house, so I'm sure my beads will be happy there. I'm still working on storage solutions and the like since I get to build my room from the ground up. I've decided to go with a nice french blue for the walls, and white for the trim and furniture. A medium hardwood floor would suit me nicely. I'll be tearing out my closet to put in shelving most certainly. So, a lot of painting and a bit of demolition, and I'm sure I'll be pleased as punch with my new room. I promise to post pictures as soon as I have some. In the meantime, here is the before picture. Wish me luck!

New Jewelry, New Job

I'll be starting a new job in a week or so as the new CRM for Barnes and Noble. Essentially it's a PR position, and I'll be helping out schools with book fairs and such. I went through 3 interviews in 3 weeks to cement the position, and I'm so happy to be out of job limbo.

On another note, my new bracelet is just fabulous if I do say so myself! It took around 15 hours to complete over the last several months. I love the new style of toggle clasp as it compliments the beadwork well.

After 8 days of eating, drinking, and beading at the 2008 Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee,WI , I am back and tired. I learned a lot of new techniques which you'll undoubtedly see in my coming creations, but first I will finish the projects from my classes and post them (could be a few weeks).

Both of my websites are down right now, so I need to figure out how to get them back up and have the ability to publish as well. Ah technology. In the meantime I will make sure to post my new things here on tribe, as well as give you updates on when and where you can find my stuff!

Go Beads!

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised

The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.

Who's Dancing at House of Kabob this weekend? (Denver)

I called to see who was dancing, and they said Allison. I'm not familiar with this dancer, and would like to know more. Does anyone have any idea who she is, or could you suggest another venue for this coming Friday night?

Many thanks for your swift return,

Well, I've made a lot of changes in the last several weeks. First off, Carrots and Broccoli are a staple snack in my house. Secondly, I have managed to get somewhat used to Diet Cherry Coke. ( I don't care what anyone says though: it will never be the same.) Smaller portions, and getting off my butt have resulted in a 10lb weight loss! So now we only have another 10 to go! How is everyone else doing?

New Year's Resolutions

Well, it's that time of year again....The bathing suits are already at the Target, and the thought of wearing one terrifies me! So this year, instead of making a long list of Resolutions that I either won't keep, or will only half keep, I have decided to follow only two goals this year: 1) I will fit back into my size 8 jeans, and 2) I will continue to grow my business. If I happen to meet or exceed the first goal, I'll add another; and if I meet or exceed that one, I'll add another. And so on, and so forth.

If anyone else in the Denver area is trying to lose weight, and wouldn't mind using a buddy system to help keep us both on track, drop me a line. Or hell, no matter where you are if you're willing to utilize an e-mail support system, let me know.

So what have I done so far? Today I bought a scale. I know, I know; we shouldn't obsess about our weight, but it's important for me to know where to begin. Actually, it's a really cool scale. It gives body fat measurements, and the like. So I'm starting here, at 157.6 lbs. 27.5% body fat. I honestly could care less about the number; it's how I feel in my own skin (and my own clothes for the matter).

And that's it. So good luck to me, and good luck to everyone else one their journey!
