about me
The evolution of Coel's dance career has definitely been unusual; from Burlesque to Ballet to Bellydance, it is a strange, yet natural progression. During the 1990's she created characters & costumes for the Burlesque stage. There she developed her alluring presence; a bit naughty, yet ever frolicsome. Being untrained in dance, she strived to improve her technique. Coel then began studying Ballet movement with Kathryn Irie of Stage Seven in San Diego, CA., while also studying garment design at Mesa College. Sharing her mother’s passion with the performing arts, she has been following a path paved with rhinestones back to her Middle Eastern roots, finding a true calling in Bellydance. With a strong foundation in yoga, Coel's technical approach to Bellydance is athletically structured, targeting each body part individually. This method fosters exciting muscle control & an ease of musicality which allows her body to truly become her instrument. Among her illustrious trainers & divine inspirations we find Maya Plisetskaya, Catherine D'Lish, Jamila & Suhaila Salimpour, Zahra Zuhair, & Aubre Hill. Dance troupe affiliations include Bal Anat, Eshta Dance Company, Arabesque Dancers, Cabaret Arabia, & Lumina Bellydance Company. She performs throughout Los Angeles, & can be seen on the Fit TV series "All-Star Workouts": Bellydance Fitness. Autumn of 2004, Coel ventured onto the world-music stage performing with the twelve-piece Arabic-fusion band Oriental Mood. She joined the band performing for Berlin's Prix Europa Festival, which was broadcast live across the EU. Onto an unmistakable aura of sensuality, she layers pure glamour, sparkling costume design, and an elegant display of the timeless tradition of Bellydance.
