Sword Performance

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather to support us yesterday! We appreciate the effort and the support. The performance went off well with only a technical fog machine glitch - so we're very pleased. I will be at the Dominy School of Performing Arts Studio Open House on Saturday May 23rd 2:00 - 5:00PM celebrating the studio's new location! I hope to see you there. Mini classes and dance demos will be done and Ms. Paula will have lots of other neat stuff going on. Halleyah :)

May Happenings Coming Up!

It looks like my advanced students and myself will be performing at the Conyers Fine Arts Festival with Dominy School of Performing Arts on Saturday May 16th. As soon as I have the venue and times, I will post them. I hope to see you there! Also, on Saturday May 30th 1-5pm I will be hosting a Hair and Make-up workshop for students looking to explore the fantasy "Gypsy" look. This workshop is designed for my students who are participating in the June recital, but there will be good information for anyone interested in this theme. Jennifer Harmon, a professional hair and make-up artist, will be the co-instructor for the seminar. We will be covering stage make-up applications and achieving the "natural" look without disappearing under heavy stage lights and will also be looking at several loose hair styles that will give you that fantasy "gypsy" look. I will be hosting my annual January Student Hafla on Saturday January 17th at 7:00 pm. Entry Fee is to bring a munchie to share. There will be a few short performances by Daughter's of Djinn and the Performance Class Students and the rest of the evening will be an open dance floor and visiting for all! Fall Festival Thanks!

The performances went off without a hitch and everyone looked awesome! Daughters of Djinn were awesome inspite of wind we managed to pull off lit candles, sword and fan veil! Truly a miricle and a testement to our many hours in rehearsal! Halleyah Raks, the student troop, performed beautifully as well and got the crowd clapping and yelling! Awesome job by everyone. For those who made it out to support us - we greatly appreciate it! For those who had to miss this, the day was beautiful, the festival fun and the belly dance amazing! We hope you'll be able to make it next year. Halleyah :)

Old Towne Fall Festival

I will be performing in October at the Conyers Old Towne Fall Festival with a trio called Daughters of Djinn. This trio is composed of myself, a long-time friend (Stacia), and a new friend (Bella). They approached me this summer with a small project to assist with my recovery of putting together a short dance for a private party. Low stress and no biggie if my feet/ankles couldn't take the stress. We had a blast and Daughter's of Djinn was born! So come on out and see our debut public performance! October 25th at 12:40 pm under the Main Pavillion. Then stay a while and see my new performance class in their debut performance with Dominy School of the Performing Arts at 1:40. Bra Workshop Thanks!

The workshop went off without a hitch and everyone had a great time! Much shopping occurred and bra construction was well on it's way to being completed when we ended at 5:00. My thanks to those who showed up early to assist in set up and those who stayed late to assist in breakdown! Keep an eye out for the next workshop that will happen this fall!

Stockbridge: Classes are held at Atlanta Festival Ballet School http://www.atlantafestivalballet.com/ Classes are on Mondays. Classes begin August 11th. Beginning - 6:45 to 7:45 Intermediate - 7:45 to 8:45 (Intermediate is by instructor permission only. Please contact me if you have questions about this) Register soon! Classes must have enough students in order to take place. Contact Giselle at AFBS in order to register for your class. Conyers: Classes are held at Dominy School of the Performing Arts www.dominyschool.com Beginning Class is moving!!!! The plan is to move to Tuesdays but Ms. Paula has not set the fall schedule yet. So keep an eye out for announcements! Spread the word! Intermediate Class is Thursday at 7:00 Performance Class is Thursday at 8:00 Both of these classes are by instructor permission only. Tribal Bra and Belt Workshop

Since I'm just out of my cast and the last workshop went so well..... HERE WE GO AGAIN! Stacia and I will be hosting a workshop on designing and building bras and belts. We've got a full day planned! Belt workshop is 10 - 1 and the bra workshop is 2-5! We'll break for lunch and then get back to work. Kits are included with each workshop to give participants the tools they need in order to complete the projects. Ladies will need to bring their own bra base to the bra workshop - if you're unsure of what to bring, contact me and I'll send you some guidelines. We plan to have a textile vendow on site so you can choose your own pretties to go on your creations. Feel free to bring extra supplies and bright shinny things if you so desire! Tribal Belly Dance Hair and Make-Up Workshop!

Join me for my first workshop! Make-up artist Jennifer Harmon will be on hand to deliver a great lecture and hands-on opportunity! Bring your own make-up and a small hand mirror to participate. Jennifer is also a wonderful hair sylist and she and I will take participants through several standard Tribal Hair styles with backstage tips and tricks. We'll have two wonderful vendors: Beads by Stacia and Henna with Bella of Coppor Lotus Tattoos! A day of Tribal Beauty not to be missed! Student Hafla This Month!

I will be hosting a student hafla at the end of January and would love for folks to plan to drop by. There will be some arranged performances, but most of the evening will be an open floor for all of us to enjoy! I'd love for musicians and drummers to drop by. No alcohol or smoking allowed on site. Southern Fusion Festival

The troop performed in the Friday evening show at Southern Fusion Festival on August 10th. While the heat was oppressive due to an unfortunate set of circumstances that left the venue with no A/C on one of Atlanta's hottest days, all the performers made it through and the show went on! Sukari was wonderful and really made things run so smoothly - you're the best! Due to the heat, we had to make some last minute costume changes - turbans might have literally put us in the ER that night. I love having a hair dresser in the troop, she pulled ideas out of the air and I think we all looked wonderful. It was our first performance at a seminar and I think it went well. There were some wonderful other performers and it was great to be able to put some names and faces together!
