My Ramblings........

The Dick

   Mon, April 14, 2008 - 5:53 PM
So, this popped in my head the other day.........mainly because I was in a heated political discussion with a friend and I thought, "hey, who do you think McCain will pick for a running mate?" and then I thought, "can he pick Dick?" (Cheney that is) - and so I went on wikipedia to find out - are there term limits for a presidential veep? And here's what it says:
The Twelfth Amendment to the United States Constitution states that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." Thus, the vice president must be at least 35 years of age, be a natural-born citizen of the United States, and have been a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years. However, unlike the two-election limit imposed on the Presidency by the Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution, there is no restriction on the number of terms a person can serve as Vice President (as long as he has never been president for 6 or more years).

OMFGawd!!!!!

I just recently watched a Frontline episode titled "Cheney's Law" - www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/cheney/
(Please watch it if you have the time)...............and so, it's true! The Dick is going to stay in office until he dies. He has said as much. Here is one scary thing I learned from the episode: Cheney came into "power" (along with Rumsfeld at the same time) after the Nixon resignation during Ford's administration. It concerned Cheney (and Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz and others) that the president could *not* do (in the way of wire taps and breaking into offices and hotel rooms to obtain confidential records and the like) whatever he wanted to do without getting the approval from the Congress. Hence, for the last 30 years, The Dick and his posse have been working on figuring out a way around the checks and balances system that was put into place with the Constitution. The Dick does not believe that the President should carry out his responsibilities (or decisions or executive orders or acts of war) according to the Constitution. Yep, that's right. I'm not making it up.

Every time the President signs a bill, David Addington puts together a "signing statement" that pretty much line by line negates anything the bill is trying to pass.
This says it better than I do: <<Addington has consistently advocated that under the Constitution, the President has unlimited powers as commander in chief during wartime. He is the legal force behind over 750 signing statements that President Bush has added to bills passed by Congress. Addington was a legal advisor to President Reagan, and suggested that such signing statements be used to exempt President Reagan from responsibility for the Iran-Contra scandal. Charlie Savage, the national legal affairs writer for The Boston Globe who won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on signing statements, quotes former associate White House counsel Brad Berenson saying that Addington "would dive into a 200-page bill like it was a four-course meal" as he crafted the statements.>>

That's right: 750 SIGNING STATEMENTS!!!!
Am I surprised? Not really. Am I outraged? Every single bloody day that goes by. What can I do? I have no idea. I'm fed up and up in arms over the whole cluster fuck of a mess that has become this country. Yes, I will vote. And there is a part of me that is growing every day that really, really hopes that my vote will be counted.........but there is another fearful part of me that is petrified that I am going to wake up the morning after the election and learn "It's too close to tell" and "It's down to Ohio and Florida to decide the winner." I can't do it again. I CANNOT go through another election feeling helpless and hopeless.

Meanwhile, the price of gas is now $3.74 in my neighborhood. I'm trying real hard not to cry. I paid almost $5.00 for a gallon of milk today.

OH! I'm not done! Today I found out my taxes for 2007. I owe the feds $752.........the state owes me $1,101. STOP THE MADNESS!!!! And can someone please stop the merry go round. I'm done and I wanna get off.
Watch this. It will make you feel better. I sure did.

Here's the real evil in the White House: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Addington

Replaced Scooter Libby...........100 million times worse than Scooter on a bad day. It's just like the Al Quaeda leaders that the U.S. keeps removing, I mean killing. They just get replaced by someone else who is just as bad if not more so.........it's a never ending battle.

Prices keep going up all the time, we're paying about A$5.68 for a gallon (that's about U$5.25). Milk is about U$7.50 :(
Living in Sydney is really no fun ....

It seems that the fascist state is here... I sign online petitions at the ACLU, but really what good does it do? Other than put my name on a list of malcontents... The deterioration of civil liberties & degradation of the constitution is disheartening.

Now that we've passed the peak of oil, gas can onIy go up, and everything else that gas-pwered trucks bring to us. Eventually they'll stop running, and there will be rioting. What fun. I should have bought a hobby farm in the hills a long time ago.
