DUCK YOUR HEAD! It's an ambush!!

I'm so sick and tired of seeing YES on 8 ads in Tribe every single time that I click on a different page - not to mention the ads in newspapers, the radio and on t.v. Jesus! California is being ambushed by people who want to write discrimination into the constitution and it really scares me.

Last week, I passed some YES 8 folks when I was at a red light and said, "I hate discrimination." The teenage girl yelled at me, "well I hate you." It helped me understand the mentality we're dealing with here.

I'm also tired of seeing all the images of family tied to Prop 8. Marriage isn't just about procreating. I've read the argument that, traditionally, it is. If that's the case, are marriages between a man and woman who choose not to have children, wrong? What about marriages where the couple can't have children?

This proposition really pisses me off and *scares* me even more. If this proposition passes, who will they discriminate against next and for what?

i know.... tribe's advertising space seems to have been completely bought up by these nausiating ads...

and for all those who keep talking about restoring "traditional" marraige, what the hell do they think the traditions of marraige are all about? something along the lines of priming 13 year old girls to become obligatory sexual and domestic property of a grown man who has the right financial or familial connections to make a union between the 2 families desirable and prosperous... simple social and religious control, financial deal making and search for improved social status for centuries and centuries (and in all cultures)... what a pure and wholesome tradition! gather round kids!

and the procreation argument is so ridiculous... to the few people who have tried to make this argument to me i've replied that clearly i shouldn't be allowed to marry then seeing as my health issues pretty much rule out procreation! guess there will be a prop for me next....

arghhh i'm getting serious night before jitters....

Coming into work today I saw a light plane taking off from the airport towing a "yes on 8" banner...

Who the fuck is paying for all this? I seriously want to find where they live and send them a male strip-o-gram dressed as a pair of Jehovah's Witnesses.

You know, based upon some of the pictures in their advertising, some might assume that marriage is between John McCain and Barack Obama. Hmmmm.....

Word. I swear to god those Yes on 8 people need to jump off a bridge together. Fuckers.

Oh, and fuck tribe for taking their money. This site sucks so much ass it's ridiculous.

You only see them if you're using Tribe for free anyway... they've gotta take SOMEBODY's money. ~>:}

Seriously, though, they're Google context-sensitive ads. Practically every site on the web is getting hit with these. They come up automatically on just about any page with the number 8 on it. Webcomics authors and the like have been quashing them but Tribe gets millions of these ads.

I'm not saying they give a shit but even if they did, they probably wouldn't know about them unless someone complained.

OK right now it's an ad at the bottom of the page for buying records by Foreigner and Nickleback.

More/less offensive?

I have a friend here in New York who was married a few years ago. They are quite content to never have children, and knowing her, she never would by choice. But I attended their wedding, in a Catholic church, and as a part of the service, they were asked to promise, at the alter, before "god", that they would have children to bring into the church, and they both said yes. They knew that they were going to be asked that, they knew that their answer would be a lie, and yet neither of them had a problem with that. THe point is that a lot of "churchey" people in this country view their religion as cultural, not spiritual. The things they agree with or that have been impressed upon them culturally, they follow, the things that have passed out of fashion, they simply ignore. It's culturally acceptable in the christian church to hate homosexuals, and they see no hypocrisy in that.

Agreed. I saw Yes on 8 ads (powered by Google) on yuku, livejournal, and some other boards that get their ad stream from, among others, Google. It was a last-minute ad push by the pro-8 forces. But I gotta wonder, just how effective they could possibly be?
