Dear being.... fire in jah eyes light beaming love creature. Although it has been many months between seeing one another, I think of you often. Just today I was sharing with a friend what inspires me in dance... I grabbed two beautiful photos of my dance partner and I one fateful day in San Fran that were taken by Raku. I was refering to the special connection, love and creativity between my partner and I, however the art and friendship with Raku is also a source of inspiration and bliss.
The character and energy in our art was so well preserved in timeless moments before Raku's lens. What an incredible artist. The whole day we spent with one another was so pure and high... a month or so later we received a photo dvd slide show with music and the whole bit on our excursion. Wow. What a gift... along with actual photos in this sometimes too virtual world.
Gush gush gush... so much love to this healing creative being full of laughter and insight. Grateful for our connection in so many ways. Adore Raku!!!!!!!

Raku is not only a super chill, fun guy to hang out with but also a kick ass photo dude. He's super kind and I feel lucky to have spent the time with him that I have. I hope to get to spend more before I leave this mortal coil.

Raku is a supaahhh kind cool guy. We met through a mutual goddess (Isabella De' Luca Pichotti) @ the Davis Whole Earth Festival, and he spoke of his aspirations and world travel while blissin' out on the dance grass for Diane Patterson. Truly an auspicious beginnning of friendship!
He has some crazy inspiring photography genius flowing through him that I was blessed to first witness at the Burn. This man Knows what he's doing! He actually got a media pass to the event after his pictures where reviewed. Yep, he's pro. In an attempt "to help" him get a "good shot" of an art car I let him know when it was clear. He waited... a bicycle passed ~ Click! Then he showed the slow exposed shot to me, it was amazing. Rather than getting a static shot, his photo captured life and movement. There are so many of his images that have burned themselves into my memory; umbrella man on the desert/ ocean of fire, feirce eyes on red and black painted face, little house on the playa, people building structures standing high above the ground, and so many you'll just have to see.
Raku is a Beautiful Soul, intelligent free thinker, photographer, massage therapist, world cuisine consumer, groove shaker, music lover, warm-hearted ~ laughter sharing ~ spark of light, and straight-up good company. Get to know him, trade stories / art / healing with him, your life will be richer for the experience. Power to the Peaceful ~Blessed Be~ Tamara

<turn up your computer volume to fully enjoy>
Over a three day weekend in the forests of Oregon, hundreds of vibe tribees gathered to connect and to make, share, and enjoy visionary art and music together. This short movie is my own contribution.
I hope that it helps, even in a small way, to document what this time is like, in this place, for this "subculture" and to help tell the story of this shared experience. It is my connected experience that these images illuminate from. Enjoy!

A beautiful gathering recently happened in a park near my house. Buddhist groups from all over the Portland area gathered with students of compassionate living and folks curious about more mindful existence. In this image, water that had been meditated on and prayed through by monks and nuns is being offered to attendees during a blessing ritual. This was the first animal blessing that I had ever witnessed. I like the charge of this image, in her expression, the energy coming off her finger tips in the water, and of course the action-packed expression of the kitty.

What: Come to Balinese Monkey Chant (aka Kechak) with Grady Cousins. Grady is the dynamic leader of monkey chant that has lead monkey chant at Burning Man for the past several years. Monkey chant is an amazing kinesthetic meditation: movement and overlapping vocalizations come together for a really amazing experience. If you've not seen it before, throw "monkey chant" in to a youtube search and you'll get a feel for it (you can often see Grady in the Burning Man Monkey Chant videos). It was a...

Fun interview on Fresh Air a few days ago.
Enjoy!

Jonathan Paskowitz isn't just any surfer. He's a professional surfer — but even that isn't why his story is unusual.
Paskowitz is one of the nine children born to Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz, a onetime physician who in the 1950s quit his practice, dropped out of the mainstream and raised a family while living a nomadic surfing lifestyle. So Jonathan Paskowitz grew up ...

Wow ~ Yesterday I heard an intriguing interview on Democracy Now. It sparked my interest enough that I searched their site for more interviews with him and listened to all of the segments, totally enraptured. I have collected the links to these interviews below. I'll bet you'll find these enlightening as well.

for those of you who have not seen enough <already!>, a new gallery of some of my faves with a few thoughts on what this BM thing is anyhow. maybe an exhibit, maybe a book at some point. i hope you can take some time to engage with these. the slide show lasts about ten minutes long. i highly suggest that you choreograph the images to your own favorite music. find something or someone you love, turn up your tunes, snuggle-up and enjoy! (collected from 04 & 07) if you are in any of these and wo...

Faces of Peace: The Soul of Portland
Photographs from an amazing gathering of inspired individuals.
For those of you that were at the rally Sunday and those who were not able to make it, here are some of my favorite photographs that I made along the way.
I wanted to create a document about this time that we live in. As the future unfolds and the years roll on, I hope that these images will become even more meaningful in that they will have recorded something important and will have provi...

I am one of the entertainment coordinators and would like to know if you have any great ideas for local performers for this event?
This year's Portland Earth Day is April 21st (officially, there's only one per year but we can have 364 other ones if we want to). This year's theme is "Planting Seeds of Community". The event will be held at Woodlawn Park on NE Dekum Street. Last year's festival drew up to 5,000 people throughout the day. It should be a blast. Three stages, great music, speake...
