Fun times
Wed, February 27, 2008 - 5:56 AMLooks like my cherry is officially popped - first identity theft. The sad thing is, I don't trust B of A in the least not to give me at least some grief in wiping away the charges. But we'll see what happens in a few hours. It's nearly dawn, but I ain't sleeping until this gets taken care of.

As much as I dislike BoA (I worked there for 10 years), there are some good people there who will do the right thing. Get on the phone and escalate, escalate, escalate. Don't take no for an answer, get names and call back numbers for everyone you talk to. At BoA the customers who make the most noise get taken care of, but don't loose your cool or you give them reason to "discontinue the call". Just be persistent.
It will get resolved. |

A few tips :
They will probably make you file a formal dispute. They will block your card and issue you another one. This is standard, the act of filing the dispute automatically blocks the card. You can't file a dispute without them blocking the card. Insist on overnight delivery for your new card. Tell them you have a business trip and can't wait 7 days. You must have it, be persistent. Push for a temporary credit so you're not overdrawn. Insist on and they will, pick up all overdraft charges and late fees as a result of anything bouncing. If at all possible go to your local branch and do this all with one of the personal bankers rather than on the phone, get the branch manager involved if need be. The manager can authorize lots of things the personal banker can't and won't even mention is a possibility. |

Made my claim
B of A says it is *likely* that they can process my claim and refund me in or close to the minimum 2 days, but made no guarantees. Despite the assurances, they can't or wont seem to do much to block any further fraudulent charges other than refund those if and when they happen. Whoever it was gained access to my Bank routing number, but B of A will not close my account and open a new one for me because I have a negative balance (so they DO have a sense of humor). At least things should be settled in the next few days, in any case.
