the New activism

Working the harvest in Northern California - September 2007

I am working with young (I consider young to be under 25) people who are grounded, real, down-to-earth, calm, thoughtful, conscious & balanced who enable themselves to stay balanced through various spiritual practices. I feel incredibly heartened to see that there are these young and wise humans in place to take over stewardship of the earth. Stewardship that consults indigenous traditions of respect, humility, gratitude, pragmatism towards this immense blessing of creation we have been given to support, nurture and feed us.

Included in the exchange are elders who have lived much of their lives in the old paradigm of mistrust, abuse of the land, unnatural dependencies and ways of living. Humans who are healing themselves from the output of existing in this paradigm our previous few generations have chosen, however unconsciously, to create and exist in. Together we are building an alliance that heals, nurtures, empowers, and uplifts in both directions.

I am so encouraged by these young humans who are practicing a new kind of activism. Activism in the sense of living in practice with values they see as true and sustaining to human existence. Not just going out on the streets and protesting, but going inside themselves and finding what is true and real, using their inner wisdom and intuition as guide to life. Living with kindness, generosity, open-heartedness, gratitude, humility, awareness. Eating foods that are healthful for the body, mind and soul, that are produced and harvested organically and sustainably. Seeking wisdom of cultures and people who lived in harmony and concert with the land, earth and sky. This is the kind of activism I see will change the world. This is the new consciousness that will take us into the new paradigm.
