Advice Sought: IMac VS Windows?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 8:36 AMHonestly, the BOHICA aspect of windows is pretty damn movitating.
So, some of my questions are:
Have you purchased an IMAC ? However, the compactness of it is pretty cool.
One of my concerns is that it is an all in one unit.
Have you had any repair issues?
For anyone who has made the windows to Mac transition. How did you like navigating around the Mac o/s?
Any other reasons why I should cross over to MAC?
Thanks!

Ask yourself what you're going to do on the computer, then see if the appropriate programs exist on the Mac platform. The answer is most likely "yes", unless you do certain semi-obscure things. However, for some things, like Office or Photoshop, you may need to shell out all over again, so factor that into your decision.
I've played with Macs a little; I think that you'll experience a little bit of frustration until you learn the quirks of the interface, but it is pretty similar to Windows, and does some things in ways which are better, once you're used to them. |

I would never pay money for a PC, but that's because I've worked on Macs since 1985. They are so simple to use, but coming from a PC there might be a bit of a learning curve, or so I've heard. Once past that, people fall in love with Macs. They're great!

BOHICA? as in Bend Over, Here It Comes Again? Not sure what that means in computer terms.
Why not go for a MacBook. it is a dual platform so you can run windows on it. I am on a PC for work. Yeah fine. Whatever. i love the way that you get traces of windows that you have closed 5 minutes ago and such. I LOVE me my MacBook. so much more intelligent and fun and no known viruses. I am a Mac Fan tried and true. I have had to send both my (former) iBook and my MacBook in for repairs. If you get applecare, it's all good. I wouldn't live without it. i have already saved myself hundreds of dollars and repairs are quick. |

Yes, as in bend over here it comes. Windows...you get what you get...with every new release that has bugs and security problems and so on (IMHO)

My brother got a Mac book last fall, after growing up with PCs, and he is quite thrilled with it.
I grew up with PCs, too, and have really only used macs a bit in school and at BMHQ. the thing that frustrates me most about them is the archaic one-button-mouse. I suppose that's easy enough to upgrade, but I'd strongly suggest that you do! I guess learning which button on the window-corner does what [maximize, minimize, close] can't take too long. :P |
