A while back, Tangee (happy birthday, girl!) and Dalmacio coined me the nickname Professor Orbit. And when I see a post like this, I feel like sharing how much I love teaching. I have gone through many cycles in the circadian rhythmic flux between creativity and commerce. One of those, most recently, was the experiment of drawing and getting away from the computer, i.e., software, to a more direct flow from head to hand to pen to paper.

So I was thrilled to find this in the motion graphics blog I check every day (some of the most amazing art being done today, in my humble opinion):

To everyone I'm bringing back goodies for (and to all my other friends here!)
I am arriving tonight (Friday!) at 8:25pm at LAX from Bali, via Taipei on EVA Air.
Any chance someone can pick me up and bring me and my goodies bags home?

I don't have time to email/call around... so I'm hoping someone will be able to hook me up. I will check again later today before I leave for the airport here in Bali, as well as at the airport in Taipei during my 2hr layover.

And...
Shee, Bridge, Laylo, Christina Marie, SuperCec, Kalla, Erika, Osa, Jupe... I have your goodies.
Shiho and Ona... I wasn't able to get the white sarongs or vests.

Peace out and see y'all soon back stateside!

So... I'm here for another 8 days. Shopping trips will begin now. If there's anything small (fabric, small wood items like masks, spoons, plates or bowls, shadow puppets, that kind of thing), that you want me to bring back, I have a Tupperware bin that came out here with speakers in it, and will be going back filled with goodies.

Also, if there are any designers here in Bali who you've been wanting to buy from, (2013/ION, Shawna, Zoltan, Ayya...) I can maybe bring some items back for you... like these rings from Zoltan?

check these sites for details:

Yes... I'm talking small. I'm not talking about big Garuda statues here. If you want THOSE items (or furniture, lighting, stone carvings, pillows, etc.) then keep your eyes on my blog for a future announcement of my new location that I'll be selling from in DOWNTOWN LA! Woo hoo!

Is anyone else a little confused/annoyed that LIB tickets went on "pre-sale" via an email sent 3 hours ago, and they ALREADY sold out of tier 1? I mean, this was an email that was not previously announced. Are we really supposed to be checking our email every moment of the day and jumping on the site to purchase within moments of the presale announcement? The same thing happened for Lucent L'Amour. I got a presale email, and jumped to the site to purchase, and was informed that the presale tickets sold out the day before the email was even sent out.

Are these presale tickets even in EXISTENCE, or is it just a way to spur sales?

I've been working pretty hard at remembering this lately...

"When you understand, Andrew, that your disappointment in another's behavior or choices always stems from their immaturity, or yours, rather than their unkindness, or yours, it becomes much harder not to keep skipping through life, giddy with joy, smelling the flowers.

Moreover, when you understand that with enough maturity on your end you can always find peace in all of your relationships, it becomes much harder not to run down the street kissing everyone you meet on both cheeks.

Kiss, kiss -
    The Universe

In my opinion, this is just as (or even more) important than Ted Kennedy's endorsement earlier today...

Toni Morrison Endorses Obama
The New York Times | January 28, 2008

By Jeff Zeleny

In a letter to Senator Barack Obama, Ms. Morrison outlines her support for his candidacy, saying "this is one of those singular moments that nations ignore at their peril."

Her decision, she explains, is not rooted in Mr. Obama's race. ("I would not support you if that was all you had to offer or because it might make me proud," Ms. Morrison wrote.)

...Her decision, she continued, is rooted in the prospect of finding a prescient leader. ("In addition to keen intelligence, integrity and a rare authenticity, you exhibit something that has nothing to do with age, experience, race or gender and something I don't see in other candidates. That something is a creative imagination which, coupled with brilliance, equals wisdom," she wrote.)

I am doing a massive purge of everyone's garbage from my garage. It's amazing how many people have left their junk, their friends' junk behind. If you are interested in fabrics, boots, clothes, scrap wood, random electronics, then contact me to come by and glean your heart out. There's all kinds of fake fur, pillows, you name it.
I can't take being a dumping ground any longer; none of this shit is mine, and I am giving anyone until Tuesday morning at 9am to come claim what's yours or take what you want of others'.

Ceci's trip-hop band Ology [ http://www.myspace.com/ology ] is performing tonight, at a dope little spot downtown. The kind of place where you can get your Moulin Rouge on.

And in the words of the supersinger herself:

Oh how I'd love to sing for you.......!
Come out to the beautiful Bordello and enjoy the provocative downtempo experience that is OLOGY.

Thursday, November 15th. 9pm

www.bordellobar.com (check this site out! lovely.)
at Bordello
901 E. 1st Street
Downtown Los Angeles, 90012
(213) 687-3766

PLEASE NOTE: there is construction on the usual web given route to Bordello that currently has some major detours. I have been advised the following:
- off the 101 South, exit Alameda - make a left off of the OFFRAMP, not Alameda
- in 2 blocks make a right on Vignes
- Bordello is at the end on the left. The sign on the building says Little Pedros (as it was formally known).

see you there!

Breast Cancer Pink and Product(RED)

OK... so here's something I was made aware of some time ago, but had a new thought about it today. See if my line of logic makes sense here.
You know the whole "wear pink for breast cancer" campaign? Well, if you think about it, who's funding it? The major food manufacturers like General Mills, who dump pounds of chemicals and additives to the foods they sell, many of which have been linked to cancer:

So then they run a campaign, to "raise awareness" and "fund cancer research" which really means more money for the pharmaceutical industry to sell us more drugs. So... they are poisoining people with their food on one hand, and then selling them drugs to fight cancer (many of which are particularly ravaging to the body... a hell of a way to rid cancer).

So then I am here at work this afternoon where they bought some of those pink M&Ms which were part of the whole pink for breast cancer campaign... what chemical-based food colorings did they ADD to these things to get that vibrant pink? It's not natural, and I can't imagine it being good for the body. Hmmm. Seems pretty disingenuous to me!

And that leads me to part two of today's "do the math" logic puzzles. You know the whole Product(RED) campaign? Gap, Apple, Nike, and others selling red colored products to supposedly help "The Global Fund" which is combating issues of AIDS and HIV. Now, I don't necessarily condemn "The Global Fund" (whoever that is, and how effective they are I have not done research into). But take a look a the Product(RED) manifesto, ( http://www.joinred.com/manifesto/ ) and you will see how simple minded it is, and how little it is really saying. Which mirrors quite appropriately the level of help that these products are doing. It all comes down to one statement to see the truth: "If you buy a (RED) product... a (RED) company will give SOME of its profits to buy and distribute antiretroviral medicines..."

SOME of its profits means they are making money off of your goodwill. You buy a product thinking you are making a difference, and they make money on that. Just donate to charities that DO make a difference, like Doctors Without Borders.

Notes from the Universe

First, as a child, it seems like the entire world is there for you and you rush to drink from its every cup, sometimes wondering to yourself how anything could ever be more fun.

Then, as you grow older, if you're observant, you realize much of what you enjoy was made possible by the contributions, work, and labor of those who came before you, and you're taken aback, disappointed even , because with maturity you can now see cracks in the façades, imperfections in the details, and 10,000 ways it could have all been done better.

At which point, folks typically choose one of two paths: Spend a lifetime lamenting how far from perfect things are. Or, to one degree or another, roll up their sleeves and pitch in.

And should they choose the latter with gusto, dear Andrew, they will come to know, to the core of their sacred being, that the differences they might make in the world cannot be made by another. And then they will discover the answer to their often-wondered childhood question.... That the most fun one can have in time and space comes from making such a difference, and that the joy derived from serving is 10,000 times that of being served.

At your service -
    The Universe

Oh, no, Andrew. This doesn't mean life becomes all work and no play. It just means work becomes play, no matter what you do, and play becomes ecstasy.

"However far away you think you are from living your grandest dreams, Andrew, you're closer. Infinitely closer.

It's just your reliance upon the rational mind that blinds you to the true mechanics of every manifestation. You are not years, months, or even days away, you're just a little new thinking away.
