The Druid King by Norman Spinrad

I just finished reading this historical novel set in the 1st century BCE featuring Vercingetorix, King of Gaul and Gaius Julius Caesar, Proconsul of Gaul. There is some druid magic involved as Vercingetorix is raised and educated by Druids and has regular visions, clad in white robes, at times holding a staff. Most of the novel involves descriptions of battles and discussions of military strategy. There is an interesting relationship of mutual admiration yet hatred between the 2 main characters. There are also 2 love stories, with the 2 women that Vercingetorix loves. This was a pretty good novel, not the best or worst of its kind that I have read. I think the cover art is terrible, however.

I have to agree on the cover. Would have never thought of picking it up to read, but the story line sounds wonderful for a relaxing read. Thank you.

Sounds like another one to add to my unread book pile, which is currently about as tall as I am :)

I shall put it on my Amazon wishlist. Thanks for the recommendation.
