Rand is an amazing person... I've never met anyone who I thought could be a model, geek, and total nerd all at once. In the short time that I've known him, he's made an impact on my life with two simple words:
"Not yet..." The question I asked was "Can you do a flip in place?", since he looks like he might be able to. Most people would have just said no, but he really has the kind of attitude that puts one's life into perspective, obstacles aren't things holding one back, but instead things to enjoy overcoming. I still don't know Rand as well as I would like to, but since he's so down to earth, smart, and inspirational, not to mention the love of one of my longtime friends, I want to know more.

Rand was the guy who first introduced me to USC during my preview interviews at the university. He was 17 and I was 16. Just kids. Even back then we got along very well over our discussions of physics and literature while listening to student-performed jazz in the Ground Zero coffee bar on campus. Through the years we have alternated between spending every day together to going weeks without contact; such is the nature of our relationship. Our personalities oscillate at different frequencies, but when we are in coherence our minds can soar. The best way I can sum up my feelings on this man is to say this: he is my tribal brother and one of the few people I can trust to protect my life should the need arise.

Rand is the answer to all of the questions I never knew I was asking.

Re: Did you know BRC is west of Los Angeles?
(in LA Burners)
Thank you, Paynie. A little geo-spatial disorientation is just what people need right about now.

Re: What part of L.A. are you in?
(in LA Burners)
There are a whole handful of burners up in Altadena. More than you'd expect, at any rate.

about me
The world's an interesting place, full of great possibilities, hopes, wonders and tragedies.
I'm here to learn, live, and do what I can to make things better by the time I leave. Fear has dominated the world for too long. It's time to live and to do what we can.

An intrinsic part of the American Dream, for me, is the idea of the Frontier... the edge, the threshold between what is known and unknown. On the frontier, we have a chance for discovery, change and freedom. It is a place of creation and destruction, mapping and re-mapping. Do we forge the unknown into more of that which we know, or do we allow ourselves to become part of the new and different?

See you on the frontier.
Ok. I waited, worked, minded the machines and settled affairs... I took the last two years to take care of things here, and did not make it to Black Rock City.

This year, I am coming back. With a vengeance.
I will be kicking it here in Los Angeles for the duration of the burn. I will miss my friends on the playa, and I will miss going "home." I have other things to attend to, and I will be ready to rock when people return.

Also, with this year and last being spent off-playa, I'm forcibly reminded that we're supposed to be making the most of *ever* day of our lives... not just the week or so in the desert.
This is Friday, the 10th of August, 2007. Those are constructed dates, and arbitrary times. But it's quite likely the only instance of those designations of time that we'll encounter. What are we doing to make it worthwhile, unique, more than just another milemarker on the road from yesterday to tomorrow?

He's just had a CAT scan. Head seems fine, puncture wound in the abdomen, and he aches like hell. I love that little punk, and I hope he's ok.
BTW, I've also been syndicating a blog from my Nulldivide.com domain to LJ: http://syndicated.livejournal.com/nulldivide/
