I screamed at the TV about how they stole my event (well, it isn't my event, but I have a small degree of ownership over it) and got an email from Jon Brumit (the guy who started the whole race down Lombard with plastic wheels thing) who told me that they called him a while back wanting to pay him for the idea and that he turned them down.

I own a Toyota and will only ever buy a Toyota, and they had every right to use the event in their commercial. I was just shocked is all.

Arrgh. Sometimes, when life offers you the big sell-out, you should take it. 'Cause they're gonna use your idea whether they pay you for it or not. At least you guys might have made a chunk of change from it, and it wouldn't have compromised the event in any way -- it's not like Toyota wanted to sponsor the event and plaster it with banners.

had they called me, I would have taken it. They called Jon because it's his event and his website hosting the info about the event. It's his to take or not take and he didn't take it. I have no problem with his decision to do so, I just thought it was funny and embarrassingly It felt nice to see a counter culture event I love and help plan embraced by "the mainstream."
