My landlord is trying to kick us out
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 9:22 PMOn Thursday, I was emailed a notice of termination of lease and that we would need to be out on May 1st. WHAT!?!? I asked her if we could keep the snake and she answers by kicking us out? Justine, on the advice of a co-worker of mine contacted a local renter's advocacy group who told us that she needed to give us the opportunity (3 business days) to correct the violation. She hadn't. She answered that claim by stating that last Sunday at 7am, while in the company of a notary left me a violation notice on my door. Un fucking believable. There is no way that she did that. I left for work 3 hours later and there was no note. Also, she brought a notary at 7am on a sunday? bullshit. It turns out that the law says that she needed to hand me the notice at my home, failing that, my place of employment, and failling that, she can post it and then mail me the letter. She hasn't done any of those things.
Bottom line, she wants us out. and will lie to do so. I'm so fucking angry, frustrated, and stressed out right now. On top of that Justine is losing something that she loves. If we're going to fight this, and we are, we have to get rid of Katula tonight and that's really depressing.
So here I am asking my community and friends: Do you have the place in your life for a snake? perhaps on a long term basis? We would very much like to keep him close and if and when we decide to move out we would like to take him with us. Cats are an issue. If they are predatory and really want to get in to the tank, they can and will.
Oh, and thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to race bigwheels. As fucked up as this housing sitch is, that was a day of pure ridiculous fun. We have a new home for our event and it is even better than Lombard on so many levels. We easily doubled last year's attendance and the neighborhood totally embraced us. The course was awesome and the time and effort everybody put into their rides and their outfits was inspiring.

Good luck with your fight!
It is really difficult for people to get kicked out of apartments here in SF. I know you guys will win the fight, it just sucks that the landlady is trying to kick you out. That's a shitty feeling.

awww, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear about that. I wish I could take him but I have 3 cats and they do like to hunt. I work in a Vet Hospital and will keep an ear out for a good home if you want.

The Vivarium in Berkeley will do long term boarding - I don't know how much. but I think they're pretty reasonable. They can also help find a good home if that's what's needed.
We've already got one snake - we could take another for awhile - maybe not long term but medium term if you need a place while you're figuring out how to deal with bitchy landlord. |

Well that is bullcrap
Your landlord will have a tough time booting you.
But no fun in the meanwhile. If the new snake owner needs a snake box as well my pal Big Daddy ( of Cyclecide note) has one for sale. I can get you in contact with him. I'm glad the Big Wheel race went super and its so right on that the neighborhood embraced you. Which makes sense, Lombard is completely different vibe. The turn out looked incredible from the images I saw. I really wanted to go, but this getting my Dad's house ready for rental is a priority over all other things right now. Damn I wanted to go. Best wishes with the landlord fight. If you don't find any other place for the snake, I might might be able to put her in a spare room in the East bay for a week or so. -kevin |

Fuck that fucking jerkhole shitsniffing landlady!
Rebecca and I live above a kids-education fieldtrip business called Tree Frog Treks. I'll ask in the morning if they have any interest in boarding your snakee... they have quite a few snakes, lizards, turtles, and other reptiles they use for education - I'm pretty sure they only let the kids look at the animals in their terrariums-no handling. wuv, marty |

That's really lame. You should be able to fight it and she'll back off, it could well cost her more than you to keep it up.
Poor little snake-y! Hope it all works out for you. :( |
