Opening for Extra Action Marching band this Friday
I've been part of Larnie Fox's Crank Ensemble www.myspace.com/crankensemble and I wanted to share the news we are opening for one of my favorite bands of all time.We just got a gig for this Friday opening for Extra Action Marching Band (performing with Edmund Welles) . Which is my mind is more then a little bit of a challenge.
I suspect it is more of providing a bit of sound structure ( not that I can say our works are as composed) and background then a formal setlist performance.
I know it will be a wild night of improv and audio stimulation. Plus the overwhelming physical stimulation of EA that can lead you to shake your ass off.
I'm really excited and I've always loved EA as well as Jerrichos band Bike Rodeo.
So I hope everyone can come on out and check out the show. I'm sure EA will put on a great show.
Tickets are 12.50 in advance , I think 10 at the door, it may sell out since Extra Action Marching Band is really popular and this is the 1st of a 3 part series.

All those LEGOS free
I was flipping through my archives of shots ( looking for screenshots of old websites, when I ran across this image of my return to black rock with the 6 huge boxes of LEGO for LEGO camp.LEGO had airshipped from Connecticut for my camp.
This was back in 1998.
So nine years ago is when I first got the LEGOJeep.
Wow, that was a long time ago.

CISCO to buy Tribe?
Just saw this in the nytimes.www.nytimes.com/2007/03/03...social.html
What does that mean for tribe?
The NY Times is reporting that Cisco is buying Tribe.net . Or at least their underlying technologies.
I don't know if anything will change but I would backup contacts, images, blog, names etc if they are on tribe. Or ping your fave tribe folk and make sure you have a real world email for them.
In fact what is yours? Drop me a note and let me know.
It never hurts to be safe in situations like this.
I personally saved all my blog entries as PDF's.
All my tribe messages from people are in my inbox on my mac.
Though my emails out via tribe are not so that is the next backup step. Could be a huge pain.
Somehow, I suspect that tribe's free wheeling discussion areas will not be supported by Cisco.
Then again I could be wrong. Maybe Cisco does not care about content just money.
For example, Cisco does sell censorship routers and systems to the Chinese, so you know that money counts more to them then ethical corporate behavior. If there is such a thing.
Hopefully the tribe.net people found a way to be bought, but keep tribe alive. However, Cisco could shut Tribe down in a second, if the terms of sale allow it. Tribe is in Beta after all.
Or maybe Cisco is only buying or maybe even just licensing the technology underlying tribe.
But if Tribe is so short on cash that they have to sell their underlying technology, then they can not be doing so hot financially.

Crank Ensemble performance on Youtube
I quicktimed our latest performance at the Waffle Pancake show at CCA on Saturday. The latest Crank Ensemble performances at California Arts and Crafts are now up on youtube
I know everyone that could not get there at the crack of noon has been asking for a copy ;-)
www.youtube.com/watch
I'm not in the other two performances ( I dig the second one the most), yet I'm hope you will find them as entertaining as I did. What I really love about being part of the ensemble is that the improv really requires paying attention and is kinda challenging. With Larnies skilled conducting and orchestrating we sound pretty decent.
For my part of the performance listen for the nails hitting each other. That takes place around 2:19, but due to the camera angle you can't see me hitting the nails . This time instead of using my hands to knock the nails together, I used a metal spring to enhance the resonance effect. When I am cranking the instrument later in the performance listen for the sound of a brush. My instrument is basically a toothbrush that brushes across the board and is picked up by the pizeo ( contact) microphone.

Crank Ensemble, Noon this Sunday! Free Waffles and Pancakes bonus round!
I'm kinda late on getting this out but I have been out of town.If you can make it do come on out and while there do enjoy the waffles and pancakes!
I'm part of the Crank Ensemble and we have a performance on Sat at Noon.
Its a fun, odd bit of music ( sorta nihongo like ) with unique instruments the group uses to perform with. They are wood and metal instruments with contact microphones that Larnie has created. I'm sure many here will enjoy the sound and unique engineering as well.
Come on out and check it out

Watch out, if you flaked on filing with IRS in the past 5 years
A new Tax law caught up with me this year.So I was expecting a pretty fat tax refund this year.
I got a decent one last year.
But the law has changed in the past year, so my refund is held until I file for past missing years.
My lack of filing ( where I made very little money) in 2003 has caught up to me.
So if you did not file in the past 5 years the same can happen to you.
Now I have to file on Friday and likely wait for 6 weeks.
Damn, I really planed on that tax refund this weekend.
