WORDS OF WISDOM

The Invitation
By Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
And if you dare to dream of meeting
Your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
For love, for your dreams,
For the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
If you have been opened by life's betrayals,
Or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain,
Mine or your own,
Without moving
To hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy,
Mine or your own,
If you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
Without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

I want to know if you can see beauty
Even when it is not pretty every day,
And if you can source your life
From God's presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure,
Yours and mine,
And still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair,
Weary and bruised to the bone,
And do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are, how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
In the center of the fire with me
And not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
From the inside
When all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
With yourself,
And if you truly like the company you keep
In the empty moments.

"ITHAKA" by Sarah Ban Breathnach

Pray that your journey be long,
full of many summer mornings
when with much pleasure and much joy
you anchor in harbors never seen before;
Browse through Phoenician markets,
to purchase exquisite treasures-
mother-of-pearl and coral, ebony and amber
and sensual perfumes of al kinds-
as much as you desire.
Visit as many Egyptian cities, content
to sit at the feet of sages, eager
and open to receive learning.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Your arrival there is your destiny.
But do not hurry the journey at all; be patient.
Better that it lasts for many years-
longer than you can even imagine.
So that finally, when you reach this
sacred isle, you will be a wise woman,
abundantly fulfilled by all you have gained along the way;
no longer expecting Ithaka to make you wealthy,
no longer needing Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka offered you the profound journey,
the chance to discover the woman you have always been.
Without Ithaka as your inspiration, you
never would have set out in search of wholeness.

And should you find her poor, Ithaka did not deceive you.
Authentic as you have become, full of wisdom,
beauty and grace, enriched and enlightened by all you have experienced
you will truly understand what all of life's Ithakas truly mean.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson

AN EMAIL SENT TO ME, I FOUND IT COMICAL:

If you are 30 or older, you will think this is hilarious!!!! If not,
send it to your parents! They'll think it's funny!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious
diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what
with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... Uphill BOTH
ways .. Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way
in heck I was ... read more

I can not want what I cannot have
Because you will not give it to me.
What matters most what I want or need?
When I do not get it in the end-never at all.

What kind of person are you, to tease
me with this question? Why do you act
as if you really care?

It never happens- all that I desire
never comes to me.
What's worse are those I cherish
They toil with my heart and then step away.

You know that now, what will you do?
Your promises, will you keep?
I do not think it's true.... read more

May your eyes twinkle like Christmas lights
May loving arms hold you on chilly nights

May you dazzle the world with grace and flare
May you enchant the world with beauty rare

Find some love round the Christmas tree
Give love away and set your spirit free

A world of dreams
I can escape to feel free
No boundaries to hold me down
A door with one key
Things, materials
The eyes can see
Myths, fantasies
Beyond reality
Pleasures, secrets
Hidden from society
Nightmares, fears
Covered from a black void of trees
What one dream foretold
The night before a scene
These riddles puzzle
Our minds forever
The dreams made by everyone
Including you and me.

A fantasy door that opens up wide
It holds the curious thoughts
Of an adventurer and his pride

Romance and beauty within the door
dreams to be fulfilled-tears to be poured
The door is different every single time
Depending on the creator's mind
Lurking in and around the door
Which is only the mind of a young inventor
Who wishes to let the door
Be opened wider- more and more

This is only a fantasy
But as you dream on
It becomes much more
Like reality and not
The Fantasy Door.... read more

Walking through the mist,
I saw endless shadows flowing about.

Capturing me within their arms
swaying me,
Enthralling me and my heart.

They lead me to the light,
happiness fills my mind-songs are sung aloud.

Heaven awaits me on the other side,
and all my hopes and dreams can be filled about
If I passed across the line
And journeyed on the ride.
