SMILE ANYONE?

Is it just me or has smiling at strangers become a freaky thing to do? I was just reminded of this change by a neighbor...we passed in the hall and I smiled, but she looked at me like some guy smiling at her kid in the park...like 'EW, what are you thinking?!' I remember when smiling as you pass someone in public, or especially where you live, was common and endearing to the ones you smiled at. What happened to us that we cannot accept or reciprocate a kind genture anymore???? What a bummer.

you're using one incident to change your entire perception of whether people appreciate a smile? Who taught you to gather data? Bitch about a bitchy person if you will, but often people are thinking too hard to realize someone else is extending the howdy. I think everyone would like a cheerful howdy do if they knew it was coming, but some people are thinking so hard and the other half are like, I'm never saying hello again! Just be you and be happy about the gift you give by smiling. Gifts are only gifts if you expect nothing in return.

*grins at you*
