Dance Odyssey Studio is proud to be featuring the work of photographer Gayle Mitchell at their studio this fall. Gayle Mitchell of Lasting Impressions Photography is a photographic artist from Santa Cruz specializing in color and black and white portraits.
Dance Odyssey Studio will be holding an open house reception for Gayle on Friday, November 16th from 6:30 - 8:30. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Sabriye Tekbilek is an accomplished dancer who has studied extensivley under both Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour. In 2005 Sabriye based herself in the Middle East, where she has been touring and performing ever since. She has danced across the U.S., in Sweden, Norway, England, Turkey, Spain, Greece, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia and India.
On Sunday, February 24th, Sabriye will be at Dance Odyssey Studio in Soquel, CA teaching a Suhaila's choreography to "Nebtidi Mnain El Kikaya." Space in this workshop is limited, so register early!

Suhaila Salimpour will be teaching a three day Level I intensive at Dance Odyssey Studio in Soquel, CA. Class will run from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 3:30 pm.m with an hour lunch break. Optional level I certification testing will be offered Sunday after class.

Dance Odyssey Studio presents a Black and White Bash, Saturday, May 3rd at the Attic in Santa Cruz. All proceeds from this event benefit the Teen Odyssey Dance Camp, a summer program for at-risk youth. This benefit will feature music, dancing, food, beverages, and live performances.

Mark June 20-22nd on your calendars. Hafla Santa Cruz is back and has now teamed up with the Double Crown Competition to bring you a spectacular weekend event featuring Shoshanna and Zaina Hart!
The international Double Crown Belly Dance Competition is adding regional competitions in 2008 and Bellydance Odyssey Productions is producing the West Coast installment! Our Belly Dance Performing Artist winner will automatically qualify for the finals in Washington.
This festival will feature community performances, a bazaar, eight competition categories and workshops with the lovely Zaina Hart and Shoshanna.
Zaina Hart will be teaching two fabulous workshops. Saturday, June 21st, 11-1 p.m., she will be teaching "Out of the Box Egyptian Combinations," and Sunday, June 22nd, 2-4 p.m. will be "Wings of the Phoenix: Mesmerizing Arms, Hands, and Torso Movements."
Shoshanna will also be teaching two amazing workshops: "Captivating Combinations and Incredible Isolations" June 21st, 2-4 p.m., and "The Glamour of the Four-Yard Veil," June 22nd, 11-1 p.m.

Bellydance Odyssey Productions has teamed up with the Double Crown
Competition to bring you an exciting weekend of dance, workshops, and
shopping. The hafla and competition are scheduled for the weekend of
June 20-22nd at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Santa Cruz.
We are currently looking for some generous people willing to donate a
couple of hours of their time to work sound, announce dancers, stage
run, or work admissions. Volunteers get free admission to the event
for the day. If you are interested, please pm me with your
preferred day and time.

Hafla Santa Cruz / Double Crown Competition 2008

Reserve your dance slot at the 2008 Hafla Santa Cruz / Double Crown competition this Sunday, April 27th from the comfort of your own computer. Log onto www.bellydanceodyssey.com this Sunday at 9 a.m. to link to our hafla web-in. Troupe and solo spots are available for Saturday, June 21st, or Sunday, June 22nd.
Vendors and volunteers at the Halfa will receive a dance slot without having to particiapte in the web-in. If you would like to volunteer, we need people to act as stage runners, work sound and/or admissions, or to emcee. Shifts are generally 2 hours and then volunteers are welcome to enjoy the rest of the hafla for free!
Please contact me before Sunday, April 27th if you are interested in volunteering and would like a dance spot.

Vending Opportunity at Hafla Santa Cruz

Hafla Santa Cruz is a weekend belly dance extravaganza that includes performances by belly dancers from all over the state, a belly dance competition, dance workshops, and shopping!
This is a perfect vending opportunity for local artists and artisans! We currently have two "one-day" spaces available in the lobby area. The registration fee for one-day is $75 per table. Because the Veteran's Memorial Building is occupied by a non-profit agency, they require a portion of sales go to the non-profit. This year, we have included that amount in your vending fees and will pay the Association on your behalf.
