Some Poems For You

somewhere in here
sometime like now
somebody like me
whoever it may be
come sit down and say hello
that is, eye to eye
soul to soul
without conjuring
shallow scenarios
of who I really am
and what I must want
all those fearful images
that block communion
the thrill of really meeting
of really seeing
of really touching
past the surface
of the parade of smiles
we wear as invitations
to nothing in particular
let's drop the facade
the heavy curtain of judgment
that hangs between us
and stand exposed
not afraid to be vulnerable
to be looked at
to let ourselves be
explored and experienced
by someone else's inquisitive spirit
here is a gift
take the deepest part of me
you can reach

******************************

hey, I've got it, try this on
don't keep looking for it
just blurt it out
say what you’ve got to say
and listen to the echoes
as it reverberates through reality
watch what appears
through sympathetic
resonance and dissonance
and set up camp
on the high ground
you want to be able to see
in as many directions
that you're able to handle
because the stakes get higher
and the going gets tougher
the rules may change
from under your feet
and the map rearrange
while you sleep
even your sweet, sweet home
may begin to flux
as the water in the sea
you can touch impermanence
for the cold, hard substance it is
as tangible a concept
as anyone has yet conceived
borne of the ancient ripples
streaming out from the birthplace
of the universe
concentric rings that are the remnants
of God's primal scream
and the word was "bang"
you're dead to the living
cut from the source
you insist on identity
apart from perfection
you drop deep and far
and spread far and wide
for countless eras
gradually losing any sense
of true knowing
of true being
and only a picture
of whom you think you are
that you drew, is left
so now you're convinced
you're probably lost
and bewildered
by not knowing even this
you don't know what to look for
and if you stop looking
you give space
for the magic of living to occur
so hey,
stop thinking about how lost
you might be
and just notice what finds you
along a mysterious journey
and follow that
to your home

*************************

sing unto the genesis
play atop the holy mountain
hold me while the river sleeps
draw down your eyelids
and softly gaze into the earth
the earth that holds countless stories
of visions not yet told
fall into the center
of unborn wisdom
that whispers raging storms
fierce and delicate
from the womb of creation
a voice from afar
that stabs the dark
and closes in around you
like a hot and humid wind
enfolding your resistance
in a blanket of ghostly images
that careen around you
dancing like horses
on a merry go round
turned inside out

My Blog

For the winter solstice I took a hike with about thirty people, mostly fire spinners, to see the lava flowing into the ocean just west of Kalapana on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was nearly a two hour hike over an undulating sea of newly hardened lava, often brittle and crunchy under the feet. At the ocean's edge, the molten lava meets the seawater in an unending plume of volcanic steam high into the sky. When the waves hit that 3000 degree river, Pele sends a spatter of red sparks into the a... read more

I've been camped out in the Mt. Shasta area for a few weeks now. Spent some time at the Buddha hole, a deep swimming hole on the Sacramento River, up the canyon above Lake Siskiyou. Shasta, Pit, Shiner, Matthew, Diego, Volee, Midnight Sun, Deva, Anton, Tracy Rae, Melissa, Yaffa and others were my fellow campers for a while. Most of us did a gig at the Village Oracle in Weed, about 12 miles north of Shasta. We billed it as the Rainbow All Stars and had 6 different front people all using the s... read more

It's the middle of February and I decided to come to Maui for a visit and get paid while I'm here. Working during the week and visiting friends a lot. It's really fun here and the Maui family is very juicy. I could get used to this. The surf at Ho' Okipo has been going off and it's been nice watching the surfers and the kite surfers rip it up. Been getting to play music a lot and that's always what I'd prefer to do. Little Beach at Makena on Sunday was so magical. The whales were out most of ... read more
