For me one of the most rewarding events connected to the MARZ project has
been the cycle-ending community showcase.
Happening at the conclusion of each three month program run, the showcase
provides an opportunity for us to share some of the things we've been up
to with friends, family members, and the community--as well as to just
have fun.
This year's showcase takes place in the Brenda Gallery during the December
1st Arts Alive from 6:00 to 8:30 PM.
This year Eileen's going to be sharing some of the video projects students
have made in the past and present; and Ryan is going to be demonstrating
his new-found mastery of the jump stilts, as well as helping others who
want to learn get a chance to strap up.
Alex is really excited to share the art pieces he's been working on: he's
never put up his work in the community but wants to be a cartoonist and
knows he needs to get out there. Ryan wants to put up some huge pieces of
paper on the wall for people to draw on and is really excited to have a
special MARZ project pinata for the event filled with secret tasty treats.
Kyle wants to set up his DJ tables and be a part of some spontaneous as
well as choregraphed music jams and Preston is organizing some
performances on the mike and piano that he's been working on by himself
and with friends at the MARZ project this semester.
Twinkie could or could not be filming for his special comedy show and if
we're lucky Joey might even be there demonstrating any number of his
numerous talents!
This time round we're especially excited because the showcase coincides
with the 4th Annual Artists' Challenge event, an amazing event that
inspires exponential creativity and community while raising funds for a
great cause.
Remember, if you come at 4:00 PM with 10 bucks, you'll get a chance to get
early access to the no doubt many unique works that'll be up!
In conclusion, if you're a young person that's heard about the project and
want to learn more, a teacher or parent, a fellow youth organizer, an
artist, a musician, or just an interested community member who's always
dreamed of getting on stilts, DJ'ing, or taking yet another swing at a
pinata, then come check us out!
That's December 1st during Arts Alive at the Brenda Gallery, 6:00 o'clock...
Of course, at the Ink People, Community Center for the Arts.
See you there!

pay attention to THIS friend..
he's the moss-covered stone that heals the world in its sleep,
the stiltin troupador that sings carols of awakening,
HE's paying attention, be sure..
acknowledgement is presence and his presence acknowledges the soul of what you see, pulsating, throbbing, and radiating outwards through flesh, bone, speech,
he's the friend you sought after in dreams, but dreams dissipate and dissolve, dont they?, and he's flesh, bone, & speech.. he's incarnate & real.. here to hear, not afraid..
what more can be said,
YOU try a better compliment!
my adjectives are shy (my fault, my shortcoming!) and my words fumble, tumble..
but again, i'm tryin to describe a friend, and true friends elude description, their depth piercing beyond the capability of vocab, syntax.. and i'm left.. describing... my feelings...
of gratitude.. for friendship..
for a friend who's there without asking,
for a friend who's there..
YOU try a better compliment!

Ahh Jerome. A brother. AAA brother. Like no other. I have only known better times when in the company of this man. My fam. Family. Givin gifts like Santa be. Im blessed to have him as a friend. This will never end. Always ahead of the game, and pushing for change in the right direction, another reflection. In the pond a ripple, like my moms nipple, nurturing life and makin' the best, passin the test, and pulling out ahead of all the rest. In the best way...moving to the next day. what he says is what the blest say. here. now. love power. Jeromes love covers us all like water does flowers. In Rhyme this this time, i signal the fine friend in line, and give thanks to be a part of his divine. JEROME IS ALL LOVE. Namaste dear brother.

Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram!
Jai Ram is the name of endearment I use to refer to my sacred friend Jerome.
Jai Ram translates to Victorious Spirit as Light, Strength, and Virtue.
It is an honor to know that I am in integrity in using this name for him… as he is all of these things.
Jai Ram is a humble, yet fierce activist… encouraging us all to stay active and vigilant against complacency and idleness. His cause is noble… social justice for all.
His work with youth is inspiring… genuinely connecting with them, engaging, empowering, and guiding them toward success.
Jai Ram is one of the most nurturing men I know… offering solid, sensitive, loving shoulders to any friend in need. He listens with a sincere presence-- a gift or humble offering from his heart to yours.
Don’t be fooled by his devilish grin. The guy is playfully antagonistic at times… tho, his jest lives only on the surface. Beyond the skin-deep tomfoolery lies a mysterious world of depth beyond comprehension… a vast universe of tantalizing thoughts, and enigmatic emotions. Jai Ram is one unpredictable surprise after another—a magician of wonderment! A loving friend til the end!
I love Jai Ram with all of my heart…
I’ve fallen head over heals for this long-haired beatnik…
And, am honored to call him friend.
I love you beyond words Jai Ram~ Jerome~ Jai Ram~ Jerome~ Jai Ram!

where to begin
this ancient friend
who fills in the blanks
for me again, and again.
tear comes to eye
heart swells to feel
the immensity of love
mine for him
his for me
and not just for me
for all, from what
i can see jerome
makes a place
for each.
huge ears
and broad,
broad shoulders
and when he tells
your story back
to you
it makes more sense
and carries more love.
jerome
vast and rooted
real, smart, and strong
and creative enough
to bring you along
into his world:
a magical,
powerful song
