Jeffrey's history in improv...
I started doing improv at faires in the mid '70's, then in the early '80s working out with members of Groundlings, Second City, LA Conn., MICE, et all..'did shows with the Comedy Omelette for a few years...we evolved into the Flying Penguins (I was Director), we became the core of the Varsitu Players for Los Angeles Theater Sports in 1989. 'stayed with LATS till about '92, and worked out for a year with Laugh Factory All Star Improv Jam (later aka "Wrought Irony")...and 'have done a few guest spots and "jams" with Second City Alumni and others. (I tried to get Theater Sports developed into a TV show back in 1989 with MTM Productions. Not knowing about the BBC's "Who's Line")</div>

										<div>
I am about to start guiding another 8 week lab for writers, directors and actors at the San Francisco School of Difgital Filmmaking...the previous three 8 week sessions have had a resounding response from participants and they have been an overwhelming success in helping writers hear their work live and if truth resonates, beats work, transitions are clear, if story arch needs work, et all. Directors get hands on communication skills with actors of different techniques; Zen, Miesner, Checkov, Method, Le Qoc, Viewpoints, et all, and Actors get to work in a variety of different genres, from dramatic to comedy and with high caliber writers and directors, shooting 3 or 4 scenes every week.

We are currently enrolling for the next 8 weeks that starts Wed. eve Feb. 4

ACTORS, DIRECTORS &amp; WRITER’S WORKOUT

An intensive workshop involving three filmmaking disciplines, acting, directing and writing, that will encourage a crossover of teamwork, networking, and the creative process.

Actors (intermediate to advanced level) will work with film directors on camera. They’re encouraged to bring in monologues and scenes they are readying for auditions and performance, too.

Directors will learn more about the acting process, develop the terms that actors understand in order to deliver their best performances on a film-set.

Writers can bring in their pre-existing scripts and those in development to hear their words come to life by the Actors’ performance in class. This will help them develop their scripts further.

Directors and Writers will also have the opportunity to act themselves, to understand better what it feels like being on camera.

By working with the concepts and techniques of improvisation, action choices, beats, scene arcs and colors, all participating Actors, Directors and Writers will see their characters and stories come to life on camera.

Start date: November 12, 2008
Class time: Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30pm (8 weeks)
November 12, 19, December 3, 10, 17, January 7, 14, 21

    </a>
										<div>My dear friend Laurent Le Gall's truely fantastic docu film about the artist David Best, (who created the Temple at Burning Man for ten years), is screening the film Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at the Sebastopol Theater (In the big theater with new seats and screen!) for a fundraiser for the new Bamboo Tea Lounge in Graton, a soon to be realized community gathering place for art, artists and audience.

15.00 is the addmission price, and the film maker will be there, the artists from the Burn, and even Art Cars!!

Come see this wonderful film that had over a thousand audience members in raptures of laughter and tears at the Castro when it premiered there a little over a month ago. Laurent got a remarkable soundtrack from French (pop star) Nellie Mella &amp; Vivian Roost. Nelly now goes to the Burn, and 'will be playing the center camp each day next year.

This is not a 'typical' burning man film, but captures both the political 'why" the burn is so important, and the even more important "why" the burn is so incredible for the soul. I am honored to be this filmmakers' friend.

    </a>
										<div>Well, it's happened.... I’ve been asked and agreed to appear at my first ever-autograph convention. In October in Parsippany, (where the hell is that?)

On their website, a week ago, they had me up on the second row of guests, next to Patty Duke and Linda Hamilton, but recently I've been downgraded to the 6th row, down with Boba Fett &amp; Barry Williams.

http://chillertheatre.com/gt/gtc4.htm

The weird thing is, I need to come up with a price for my signature...(and my writing is terrible!).

One guy has already asked me to sign his 'Back to the Future' theme guitar. (I've reluctantly signed a few Deloreans that the owners insisted that I autograph, so I guess I can sign the custom guitar).

I know I'm going to ask that folk who want a picture 'with me live' give a donation to Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's Foundation.

But for a signed shot of me from one of my films.... what’s that worth?

hmm...

    </a>
										<div>Yes, it's a bit of a "Broadway Packaging", but it's great and a very satisfying show.

Go see it while it's here in SF at the Curran, folk, you'll not regret it.

And many of the original cast (that won 8 Tonys) are still in it.</div>

    </a>
										<div>last evening's CFI "test" screening of the new cut of "corked" at the Rafael was well attended, and almost all of the audience stayed for the Q. &amp; A. afterward, which is a good sign.

During the film there was a great flow of laughs all the way through...(a few places still could use a trim, but all in all, it rocked).
More reviewers and many of the "elite" film community in Marin attended as well.
Several folk that had seen the premiere at the Sonoma Valley Film festival even returned from very far away to see it again! (A very good sign).

I was showered with praise, which makes me so fuckin' happy.

Tonight there is another sold out "test" screening at the Raven Theater in downtown Healdsburg and since there is a demand, and they can do it, they've added another screening at the Raven for Saturday night.

The filmmakers are takin' it slow and doin' it right, but getting response cards, and cutting the fat to make the picture the best it can be.
Nice new soundtrack too.

If you make the 8pm shows at the Raven, come early 'cause Hawley (who my character is based on), will be pouring their incredible wines!

    </a>
										<div>So April was the month with back to back gigs and shows and fundraiser appearances in Florida, Ohio, LA and SF, and it took a while to get Kimbell adjusted to her new anti migraine trigger diet and meds, and get her back to the new guests center, which is in full operation up in Freestone.

May and June had more casuals, classes and the DeLorean Convention in Gettysburg (Where the ghost of my late friend Steve Bartel inspired many visions). In fact I think he was at the Blasters show a few nights ago and threw a beer into the air...seriously, no one touched it and it flew...I think 'cause his best friend Bill was playing great drums, and we were there).
On the last day of the Gettysburg trip, in Washington D. C. after recovering our towed rental in a thunderstorm (towed from outside the Smithsonian), number one son admitted that he'd been lying and that the 7.5 K usury student loan I co-signed for him was gone...spent on a new car that he returned, because he couldn't keep up the payments.
And now since he's not welcome so much at his Mom's he's moved back in with us and we are starting over with trust. He's gotten a job at last...start paying off the 10K bad loan).

Since July 5th, I've been teaching the "intensive" for young actors at the California Actors Workshop at U.C. Berkeley for Education Unlimited.

It was an attempt to put credibility for them back on the map since they apparently took a few steps back in quality in recent years, and well, I think we were successful.

I had 7 incredible talents in the insensive (and about 20others in the high school and jr. high levels) from all over.

My insensives from B.C. to San Diego. Their commitment, drive and desire to improve on their craft was amazing.

They were exposed to a wide range of theater; Cal Shakes (An Ideal Husband), Broadway Road Show (Drowsy Chaperone), shows from Tutti Frutti Commedia, Checkslovakian Puppet Theater, SF Shakespeare, SF Mime Troupe, Brecht, and others. They got to go to rehearsals for Ubu at Shotgun, to the Performing Arts Library, visit the ACT space, workshop Musical Theater, Masks, Shakespeare and enjoy performance videos of distinction (I put my copies of Waiting For Godot &amp; Regard of Flight in the checkout library in addition to the Keaton, Chaplin and other great videos screened during the eves).

I taught workshops in commedia dell arte, the business of acting and acting for film, and lead the theater games and improv workshops that kept these guys on their toes. Even advanced adult performers would've been hard pressed to keep up with the curriculum.

I kept giving these young thespians "age appropriate" scripts to do for their final monologs and scene performances...but no, they threw most of that aside to do Angels in America. We did 4 scenes and except/transitions, monologs from Shepard, Durang, Shakespeare and Simon. We had one scene where Roy Cone was played by 6 actors simultaneously, and it was unbelievable...they level of performance was better than the best you've seen at ACT or Berkeley Rep. I was just a guide, and they were the way...their inner truths matched with the text, they gave life again to my faith in art in theater. I give thanks to the gifts these student/professionals gave me.

I am wowed.
I am tired.

I still am teaching acting for film "Essentials" on 4 more Sundays and one more class in "Intermediate" Wed. eve at the San francisco School of Digital Filmmaking.

Ans then screenings of "corked" coming this Thursday at the Rafael Film Center for CFI, and another Friday at the Raven in Healdsburg with Q &amp; A after each.

"Good Luck In Her Eye" screening Thursday eve in Pasadena for the AOF Film Festival.
'booked to appear as the "Hobo" again for the "Polar Express" in Sactown this holiday season (so no Dickens till last weekend)
"Mark Twain in the Holy Land" still in post, but 'word will be here soon on an air date.
"Car Babes" finally out on DVD (I've a cameo that turns the tide in the film).
and a final cut of the horror short, "We Miss You Pete" now on DVD (not distributed)
A possible few days in Portland next month on a feature.

and if that isn't enough...

I've got to do my taxes. (I'm behind two years)

ahh me..

    </a>
										<div>I know some of you couldn't get in to the two sold out screenings at the Sonoma Valley film festival back in April, so here's a chance to see a new cut of the film before it disappears until it finds distribution...

About "corked":

The film is a mock-documentary is an uproarious send-up of Northern California’s favorite business, focusing on the rivalry of four distinctly different wineries: Moreno Russo, a corporate family business that trademarked the word “family”; Peña Cellars, a traditional establishment that becomes the plaything of a rich party dude and his L.A. girlfriend; Hannon Winery, all-too-literally (and exhaustingly) a “one-man” show; and Sco-Gar, a long-distance marketing entity that doesn’t even touch the product. All are rivals for the coveted Golden Harvest Award and the success that “thumbs up” from a celebrity wine critic will provide. Critic David Templeton, who in the North Bay Bohemian wrote that “Corked is funnier than the last two Christopher Guest films put together,” will moderate a discussion with the filmmakers following the screening. With Jeffrey Weissman, Martina Finch, Ben Tolpin, Rob Reinis, Devin Westberg, Sara Woo, Todd Norris, Marte Maejstric. Camera/Editing: Miguel Medina. Producer: Brian A. Hoffman. Writers/Directors: Ross Clendenen, Paul Hawley. (US 2008) 90 min.

My Name Is Will: A Novel of Sex, Drugs, and Shakespeare, the eagerly anticipated first work of fiction from Reduced Shakespeare Company co-founder Jess Winfield, is coming July 8, 2008 from Grand Central Publishing/Twelve Books. The politically charged romp follows the parallel lives of two prodigal young Shakespeares: William Shakespeare in 1580s England and would-be Elizabethan scholar Williie Shakespeare Greenberg in 1980s California. http://www.jesswinfield.com/press.html

Dame Jane Goodall was at Animal Kingdom on Earth Day re-dedicating the park, and we met several of her youth leaders from around the world...many of whom were outraged at the Disneyfication of their worlds, but most were very nice anyway. Got to hang out and get to know one of my acting heroes, Chris Lloyd a bit. So, doing the fundraiser at OSU a few weeks ago the opening of the surprise hit of the Sonoma Valley Film Festival "corked", doing a few Laurel &amp; Hardy Wine Sommeliers" gigs in LA, a fundraiser for the Marin Symphony as Groucho, the Make A Wish event in Florida (We raised over 200K!!) and making it back in time to see the "Every 15" anti teen drinking &amp; driving assembly with the film that I coached the actors on, (which came out really well).... now I just need to do my laundry and rest.
An actor's life for me.

Meanwhile a new King of Fools' was crowned on Saturday at Southern Faire; (from Quing Lickity Split (Heidi B.): Paula Re and Fred Lehto from Santa Barbara were created by Wacky Powerful Wizards on the Golden Hinde Stage at the Faire last Saturday!
There was a Rabble Of Loyal Fools to Yuk it up in their honor!
Our new Mother Folly announced herself eloquently as our new Mad Mom - Madelyne - makes us feel fine!

The King &amp; Queen are great entertainers...What a GREAT year we shall have with such Theatric and Eloquent Sovereigns!

Long Live the Two Bamboozed and Mad Mama!

Pic is in front of the "time machine" outside the AMC Theater in Celebration, Fla (aka "The Bubble") with Bob Gale (who wrote all three BttF films, Claudia Wells (Jennifer Parker from pt. 1, Christopher Lloyd and me). For the first time ever they projected the first film of the trilogy in digital, and it looked amazing.

    </a>
										<div>The president of the Back to the Future Fan Club site (bttf.com) says: "Still have some tickets left, so please help us sell the theater out! With just 2 days to go, we need to sell the remaining tickets for this event today. Please send invites to your friends who are or can be in the Orlando area this Saturday!"

Even though I was only in part two &amp; three, I've been asked to attend the screening of Back to the Future pt1 (A rare disc plate print showing)and we are doing interviews with the writer/producer Bob Gale, Cludia Wells (Jenifer Parker from #1), the great Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown), and me, all will be there on stage...this is a rare opportunity to see us together, get autographs, see BttF pt. 1 and photo opps for 30.00 (VIP tics are 50.) and all of the proceeds go to Make A Wish Foundation.

Tell you family and friends in the Orlando area, okay?

										<div>There were about a dozen folk who have mentioned that they’d like to come to the world premiere of "corked" Friday April 11th at 3:30pm at the Sonoma Valley Film Festival, so the best way to make sure we get seats is to get a block of tickets. I am going to buy the requisite block of 20, and reserve them for those that contact me on a first come basis. If I get another 20 responses on top of this first 20, I'll get another block of 20.... the thing is, I am shelling out the 10.00 a ticket myself, and I'll need folks' keeping their commitment to buy the tics, which I will be giving out a half an hour before show time on the 11th.

										<div>I am pleased to announce that a film that I co-star in as an obsessive compulsive wine maker called "Corked", (a Christopher Guest style "mocu-mentry" on the wine industry) will be making its world premiere at the 2008 Sonoma Valley Film Festival.

The Festival runs from April 9-13 in the town of Sonoma, CA. (Festival Info: www.sonomafilmfest.org )

The Corked saga began in the summer of '05 and after many trials and tribulations it is finally time to celebrate! This return to the wine country is a joyous coming home for Corked and the talented team behind it. I am very excited!

										<div>Tonight!! Help voice keeping Armstrong Woods and Austin Parkat the Guernville Vets. Town Hall Meeting!!

State park advocates eager to signal their opposition to closing Armstrong Woods as part of a larger state budget fix are holding a town hall meeting Thursday night to galvanize support for the park.
The meeting at the Guerneville Veterans Memorial Building is part of a larger campaign to prevent state lawmakers from closing Armstrong Redwoods State Preserve and adjacent Austin Creek State Recreation Area as proposed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Hosted by the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, the 7 p.m. meeting in Guerneville is to include representatives of all of the region’s state legislators and the California State Parks Foundation, which is leading the charge to save the parks.

The event will feature updates on the state budget and an opportunity to provide input to state lawmakers, organizers said.

In all, Schwarzenegger has proposed closing 48 state parks, beaches and facilities to shave $17 million over the next 16 months off a projected $16 billion state deficit.

Michele Luna, executive director of the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, said input from the public indicated turnout for Thursday’s meeting would be high.

“I know a lot of people care about this issue,” Luna said.

About 1 million people annually make the trek to Armstrong Woods and Austin Creek, according to state parks statistics.

The redwood preserve is the second largest on the list of 48 proposed for closure, most of which have fewer than 100,000 yearly visitors.

Town hall meeting sponsors include the Stewards, Sonoma County Supervisor Mike Reilly, the Russian River Chamber of Commerce and other organizations and individuals.

The meeting runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the vets building at First and Church streets.
