INTRO to GOTHIC BELLYDANCE (Level 1)
In this 5-week course you will learn with JeniViva, a professional Bellydancer for over 7 years and also one of the pioneers of the East Coast Gothic Bellydance Movement. Utilizing the core elements and movements of American, Egyptian, and Turkish Cabaret, Tribal-Fusion, Ritual, and Theatrical Dance you will be immersed in an alternative genre of Bellydance.
JeniViva, creator of an original Gothic Bellydancer's Vocabulary entitled "The Serpentine Method©" which enables you to translate the shadow side of yourself into a sensual and sacred dance. Focus will be on proper form, building a stronger body, as well as learning how to express yourself in a safe non-competitive environment.

Im so excited for this one! I've fused many genres of Bellydance, both old and new, as well as ritual movements found in World Dance to bring a new twist on Cane/Staff/Assaya dancing.
The result is RAQS ASSAYA GOTHIQUE!

The workshop is 2 hours of ORIGINAL CHOREOGRAPHY

OPEN CALL 4 DANCERS this weekend in NYC!

Sooo my Beauties...
This is the deal.
I am forming an all female traveling dance troupe called "THE MYSTICAL HIPS TRIBE".

I am looking for INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED BELLYDANCERS AND BURLESQUE DANCERS ONLY AT THIS TIME. Experience is necessary and Dancers who are well versed in many genres of dance, know prop work, and have something to bring to the creative table are greatly encouraged.

I have bookings well into December at major events in and around town. We will begin rehearsals as soon as next week!

FOR THE AUDITION:
Auditions will be in a studio in Manhattan on SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 21ST FROM 4-5PM.
I'll need a brief bio and any old pic. The most important things we are looking for are your skills as a Dancer and stage presence.

Please prepare a 3 to 4 minute dance to Gothic/Alt/Fusion music.
Improving or Choreography is fine.

Please note the fine print:
1) Participation in THE MYSTICAL HIPS TRIBE requires complete dedication to the growth and success of the troupe as a whole.

2) Your 100% commitment to learning Gothic, Experimental, and VictOriental style dance choreography, performing it, weekly rehearsals for it EVERY Sunday late afternoon (sometimes more when major shows are booked) is REQUIRED.

I have a day job just like you and understand that time is of the essence, thus I will try to work out an evening rehearsal schedule when necessary.

3) I love to get my swerve on as much as the next party girl...BUT ONLY AFTER the show and not til I black out, puke up, or crack up.

I am a goofball and a dork but let the records show that I am 100% Professional and expect you to be as well. So please no addicts, no drunk asses, no competitive starlets and no drama queens. Heehheeee...no faw real tho'.

GOTHIC BELLYDANCE CLASSES IN NYC!!!

Good heavens!
After months of taking it slow and weighing my options, the time has come! Im feeling healthier and happier than ever and am super geared up to teach some fun classes at Panetta Movement Studio starting June 1st!!! Wheeeeee!
I hope to see some of your gorgeous faces there so we can shimmy it on up and let the good times Raq n' Roll.

GOTHIC BELLYDANCE 2 DVD: REVELATIONS!!!!!!

Oh my my my my!
So I just wrapped up shooting one of my numbers for the Gothic Bellydance 2 Dvd: "Revelations" and I am SO excited!
I took a HUGE risk in this video because I have fused all my Turkish, Romani, Flamenco, and Cabaret dance backgrounds with GOTH!!! Wheeeeeeeeeee!
I call it a "GOTHLIMA" ( similar to a Karshlima but NOT! ). I coined that term...its sily but I think it fits. Its a 9/8 concoction if you will.
Anyway, one down and one more to go. The next one will be an homage to Goblin Kings, New Orleans, and Anne Rice...don't try to figure it out, just enjoy the aesthetics and be pleased. Neon of WORLD DANCE NEW YORK got the rights to use CLAN OF XYMOX's "Back Door" for me for the number.......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Dying, jumping, exploding with joy.

Up for sale right now is my orange PHARONICS of EGYPT costume:
Its 34 around, A/B/C cup, belt is 37"top and up to 39" bottom (fullest part).
If you don't know, Pharonics is the Versace of bellydance csotumes. I call them my money maker costumes because they are just so glamorous.
I am including a 2 layer-CHIFFON FULL CIRCLE SKIRT from Topkapi Designs as well.
I wore it for a show at Caroline's on Broadway for the radio show EL VACILON! Those guys are so fresh! Lol! Anyways check out the pix on my myspace blog (myspace/nycraqsgothique) I am asking $400 for the whole set but am open to negotiations.

I told you I was up to no good!
Well I am SUPER excited to announce this show.
Its my first run as a Directress and I hope it all goes well. I was looking for a way and place to stage a meeting of what I call a fusion of "BURLESQUE NOIR" and "DANSE MACABRE/ GOTHIC BELLYDANCE, and this fell into my lap as did TEMPEST and SASHI who are kind enough to perform here in NYC on Feb 18th!!! YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!

My vision is simple: Moulin Rouge on Absinthe in a tiny roadhouse in the middle of the desert, the moon is full and the only water is whiskey and wine....yeehaaaa ya'lls.
Actually, its a traveling act with rotating performers from NYC and the surrounding areas. Every other month in NYC if all goes well and eventually we'll take our show further on down the road....perhaps this summer!
