I was pregnant, and in labor. My partner and I had decided to do a homebirth, and his friend Nate was my doctor (who, in real life, is nothing of the sort). I was sleeping through the first part of labor, and Nate was also taking a catnap in the same bed. TJ, my partner, went to the bathroom to brush his teeth. I woke up, feeling the shift into hard labor, woke Nate up and asked him to check me. He did, and I was only 2 cm. I knew birth was imminent. I breathed, and felt the baby turn to a head down position, right at the doorway of my cervix. Suddenly, I was pushing, the baby was coming out so fast. I had underwear on, and that's the only thing that was impeding the baby from being fully in the world. We got that part all sorted out, and we had a beautiful baby girl. TJ was so sad/bewildered/upset that he missed the whole birth, from being in the bathroom. My daughter Adira was 2 or 3, and she was so happy to have a younger sister, she greeted the new baby with her usual joyfullness. We didn't have a name for the new baby, since she had come early. I remember her personality, though, so clearly in my mind. When I held her I could feel her calm, serene nature, eyes looking into mine, with such depth and knowing. I remember that we were going to go to the hospital to have her wieghed and deal with paperwork, like SSN and the like.

I added some photos to my profile, so y'all can see what I actually look like. My little one and I are sweating it out in our apartment on the third floor, no A/C, ninety-five degree heat. Whoo!
