<div>Hey guys. I have not tended to this tribe group very well. So I am deciding to keep this updated more frequently. We are hosting another retreat this early spring. April 25-27, 2008. See the attached advertisement and website www.queerspirit.org for the many things we are planning and hosting. John and I have been very excited about what is taking place with this community effort and very pleased at the many men who show up, participate and leave transformed! I have grown so much personally being in community and circle with these fine men and looking forward for more to show up. Jerry</div>

The Fellow Travelers Exhibit is a collection of 14 stunning black &amp; white images of Gay liberation pioneers taken by Mark Thompson, one of the foremost chroniclers of the movement. Thompson is best known for his influential trilogy of books dealing with gay spirituality: Gay Spirit (White Crane Books), Gay Body, and Gay Soul.
Fellow Travelers has exhibited at the New York Gay &amp; Lesbian Center, San Francisco Public Library, the LA Gay &amp; Lesbian Center, ONE National Gay Archives, and the Los Angeles Episcopal Cathedral.

Read an excerpt from an interview with Mark Thompson: READ MORE>>

See a great YouTube video of the exhibit at the Center in NYC.

You are invited to attend and meet Mark Thompson and Clyde Hall (Featured in the exhibit) at the Gala Reception and Book Signing on Dec. 7, from 7-9 p.m. at Cup of Joe's Coffee Shop. (A limited supply of Mark Thompson's Gay Soul and Gay Spirit: Myth and Meaning will be available for sale as a fundraiser for Queer Spirit Scholarships.
<div>Recently I requested to join the Utah Radical Fairies Tribe. There has been an interesting discussion between myself and the moderator. You will see his denial and then my response. Any of you connected to this URF Tribe I could appreciate your assistance. Many of you I notice belong to this tribe and would appreciate your fairy support! Thanks JB

> NOTE: This group exists as a line-up of who we are. Anonymous listing and profile interaction are the requests of many if not all. Featured and upcoming events of Solicit Gatherings are made via personal email. Unwanted and unsolicited business minded members
> will be deleted. All new members will be voted before acceptance .... which brings us to the many requests to join URF by a Salt Lake
> Clinical Social Worker; JERRY BUIE.
>
> Many if not all know or have met this person
> people.tribe.net/jerrybuie
>
> I have had personal dealings with this person and it is my opinion that his interests rests solely on how much money he can get from you. This person, although may be a great addition to the Social Work field and gay men in general, however, in my interaction with the man, he has proven that he can not keep his word. When I 1st went to see the therapist, I was recommended by Clinic 1A, as he has proclaimed > that Ryan White insurance covers his fee. While this may be true or not, his office threatened > to discredit me with a bill for several months (the bill was for the remainder of the costs not covered by Ryan White Care Act) and he would not re-schedule another appointment with me after the first time.
>
> MY VOTE is only one but being of a forgiving nature, I cant help not forgetting that if you are HIV Positive and have troubles on your mind, use your Ryan White benefits elsewhere.
>
> The URF is not in need of a Clinical Therapist but if you need to see one who is like-minded in the sense of being gay or HIV+, I recommend my Mother, Weber County Human Services MSW
>
> MY VOTE: BOYCOTT

Naughty

You have my attention, and you have me in an interesting position as I must be mindful my ethics, but I will respond as this appears to be the venue to do so.

My interest in this tribe is about how it serves queers in Utah and my interest in engaging queer folks who embrace an authentic and queer sense of themselves. My interest in this tribe is about connecting with other queer men who embrace, celebrate and otherwise engage queer spirituality. I have many friends throughout the queer community from Short Mountain, Wolf Creek, and Zuni Mountain. I have served them in many capacities and they also enhance and enlighten my own sense of myself. I love my fellow fairies and have learned much about them that I freely integrate in all facets of my life. Often they provoke shadow as well as glorious light.

There are apparently some issues that need to be resolved and that is your right to do so or to not do so. I cannot fix something that I do not know to be broken. E mail and chat rooms would not be the right venue.

As far as Queer Spirit, a fairy brother who operates a non profit is under writing our efforts with this venture. It is not a money maker and, in fact, is costly for me to support. Any money we make or profit is used for future retreats and scholarships to attend the retreats as will be explained below, so the idea that this is a money making scheme is your story but not mine. This is a passion of mine that I love and really don' care what it is costing as long as we as queer brothers are growing. It has been a vision of mine that I see growing each time we pursue the process. The website was a donation of love from a fairy friend of mine in NYC who gets what I am trying to do. I have been blessed and this vision has been blessed in many ways. Much of what happens in the retreat is financially supported by contributions and those who share the vision. The cost associated with the retreats are about food and lodging. By the way, we hold several fundraisers to support men in recovery (Substance Abuse Issues) as well as men who are HIV+ and lack the financial capacity to cover the expenses. WHY? Because we know the healing power of queer brotherhood. Yes I advertise the retreat aggressively, at my own expenses because I am passionate about what this process can do for people. There are fairy boys in UT who do not know that fairies or spirituality exist. So, I am doing what I can to let fairy glitter shine. I am not in a position to apologize for something I see changing lives and providing hope and ultimately shifting some balance in the direction that promotes health and happiness in the lives of those who attend or participate.

You pick an interesting venue to air your concerns. I certainly wish the issues would have been addressed when they surfaced, I'm not sure I know the nature of your concerns. As far as my practice. I love what I do, I love the people I get to be with and work with and actually find that when I am in ceremony I privately offer prayers and thoughts in their behalf because I know my limitations. I honor the opportunity to work with many people under many different circumstances. I'm not a perfect man, queen or queer. I'm also in process in becoming and honor that process. I do everything I can to make my services accessible, affordable and effective. Again, can Pride Counseling be better? YES, are we trying, YES. Do I apologize for this being a profession or establishing my agency? NO. I believe that most people have a positive experience as attested by the many who come and return to our office. If there is a concern that I am aware of I attempt to remedy the situation as quickly as I am able with the information I have.

I' m not interested in a nasty engagement, simply to participate in the discussion that I thought fairies were invested in having. I think there are those on this site who may be able to attest to their walk with me in many different capacities. I always understood that fairies were open minded and embraced many ways of being and responding to the authentic in our lives. I offer you what I have and can only offer what I have. If I am not to be part of this particular tribe I will simply expand my own circle to include you knowing that I can commune with fairies elsewhere. Thank you for your attention and time. As you have posted your argument against me I would only assume it would be fair to offer my perspective to your group as well.

Sincerely

Jerry Buie

<div>Hey folks, we are off and running. John and myself have been working hard and long on this upcoming retreat. Last April we all experienced this incredible shift of awareness as a group, we had fun, played, shared, cried and ultimately embraced a new way of being and celebrating our lives. The retreat in April confirmed our thoughts that Queer Spirit was worth doing over and over and again and again and we seek to bring more to the tribe and celebration in a good way. The website is up and running and I would encourage you to check it out and think about joining us. Check out the latest on www.queerspirit.org

<div>It has been a while since I posted anything to my blog. Certainly our lives here in Utah (My partner and I) has been interesting, eventful and wonderful. In June we moved to a wonderful home on a half acre of land. It is our hope and intent to have a space to build a sweat lodge here. We are planning on this building to be on September 23, 2006. The home is a wonderful space, isolated from the city but within the city. My daughter Ashley was in St George most of the summer in a high school of performing arts starring as Frenchy in Grease. She was wonderful and returned such a mature young lady, noticing boys and taking great pride in her dress and appearence. Shopping is the new hobby.

Bruce and I have been focused more so on our spirituality and connection with Spirit. This has been interesting in a new home and in space with different energies. Pride Counseling is moving along in its new space.

In October I am hosting a Queer Spirit Gathering in Spring City Utah. Check it out at www.queerspirit.org and let me know what you think.

Looking forward to the future and the dreams that will manifest themselves.

<div>I always thought it would be fun to keep a journal of thoughts and events. I have a young daughter who does not quite understand the strange doings of her father but perhaps keeping a record like this might help her understand some day. I am really enjoying Tribe as I am connecting with folks that I don't typically keep in touch with but always wonder about. The travels that Bruce and I often engage bring us into some incredible people who teach me so much about how to carry myself. These people are like family and extended family and now connecting with them in this Tribe is going to be great. Now I have a way to see whats up.......and they DO seem to have some INTERSTING photos (Smile)

This evening we had a sweat lodge and about 10 people showed up. Lodge is always an incredible ceremony for me. Often it moves me into a deeper sense of connection, worship and spirituality. Lodge is my first love, probably becasue it is how I evolved in the path I walk today. We are always fortunate to have some incredible people in our lives through the lodge. Many of these tradional Elders have been very generous in teaching us and praying and particpating with us. Today was a day meant to slow down and take inventory of life and where I am going and lodge was a great way to make some connections in this quest.

In January I am going on a quest to Peru to see the sacred ruins and particpate in ceremony. A Elder by the name of Charles has been cooresponding with me and helping me do some personal work in preperation for this Vision Quest of sorts. I have been working hard in clarifying my intention and focus for this trip as I will be participating in ceremony that is new for me. Charles is a good teacher and has much to offer. I trust the Elders I am traveling with and trust that a positive expereince will unfold.

Well looking forward to seeing and hearing from others. Tribe appears to be a good way to create the connections and keep the weave together.
