<div>Do you have a project that needs attention?
Need a writer, perhaps? A bookkeeper? Business Manager?
Or a personal assistant to do all the dirty work you don't want to do?
Want to pay someone to do your laundry?
Play with your kid(s)?
Cook you dinner?

I'm looking for work during the next week in the greater Portland area.

I can guarantee that anything you throw my way will be handled with care and great attention to detail.
I'm a hard worker, quick learner, able to follow directions, and think ahead. I can be your monkey, your gopher, or your hot secretary.

My business card currently reads:

Jessica Klinke
Folklorist :: Producer :: Fundraiser

But I am in no way limited to those professions!

My professional experience involves fund-raising (major gift and donor stewardship primarily), theatrical production and stage management, teaching (preschool through college-level...i mean what's the difference, really?), program management, Board relations, ethnographic fieldwork, multimedia production (audio editing, mostly), radio broadcast and podcasting, non-profit management, dancer, barrista, model, and retail shopgirl.

I'm also happy to do childcare, farm or garden work, housecleaning, cooking, stilting, jewelry/clothing repping, typing, spreadsheets....I can use a glue gun, a sewing machine and power tools. I like to get dirty.

										<div>are you done with burning man?
do you feel like taking a year off?
do you have a playa bike that wouldn't mind kickin' up some dust this year?

well...i'm looking for a playa bike -- for free, for cheap, or for trade. last year, i truly enjoyed riding around on back pegs while tucker pedaled me across the playa. i have a feeling, that level of our courtship is over and he may not put up with that this year (he still treats me like a queen, but he's got a few more things on his mind).

i leave for the temple build on august 8th from portland, but there are also a number of vehicles that it could catch a ride on leaving from the bay area. let me know if you have anything, or pass along to friends who have a legacy to pass on.

THANKS!

ps: it doesn't need to be pimped out....it just needs to get me where i need to go. of course, extra points if it's dope!</div>

    </a>
										<div>Come create a sacred space with us!

SAGRADA, a beautiful event supporting the vision of the 2008 Burning Man Temple!
Thursday, June 12
DNA LOUNGE, San Francisco
7pm-4am

We invite you to eat, drink, dance and make merry while offering up some abundance to this year's community temple space, BASURA SAGRADA. For years, people have relied on the temple as a physical space of transcendence, a place to connect to their own sense of the metaphysical and provide meaningful offerings and prayers to the beyond. Now, we come to you in great need of your financial support so that we may continue to make the temple a reality!

The Sagrada Soiree offers many ways to tithe along with fellow burners, patrons, and temple supporters. With sumptuous dishes creatively served by temple avatars, tasty libations, performances by mind-blowing troupes, live painting with Shrine and others, it's a unique event not to be missed! In addition, we will be hosting an incredible art auction featuring one-of-a-kind works by artists and friends of the temple, some special presentations by the Basura Sagrada creators, and other delights to complete this lavish evening gala. Plus, it's all set to a beautiful soundtrack by some of the best downtempo talent in the city!

Later, we will throw open the doors to the entire community, and turn up the heat (and the volume) for some splendid late-night celebration. With more performance, more music, and more art than you can believe, SAGRADA will provide an exciting peek at what this year's temple has to offer!

Get your tickets now and support this sacred undertaking!

SAGRADA SOIREE — 7pm-4am
$150 ($250 for two!)*
Hosted reception between 7-10 pm, with VIP access to special performances, presentations, and pre-event admission to the silent auction. Includes ample hors d'oeuvres and drink specials, conversations with the artists, and much more!

    </a>
										<div>When I was an undergrad at UC Santa Cruz, I became heavily involved in the land rights, water rights and human rights issues faced by the Dineh' (Navajo) people living at Big Mountain in the the Arizona Navajo reservation. A small enclave of grandmothers, who survived by herding sheep--which provided them with wool for weaving, and meat for sustenance--along with subsistence agricultural, had endured over thirty years of resistance and struggle against BLM, the Department of Indian Affairs, and the Peabody Coal Company. As a witness, I watched these eighty year old matriarchs man-handled by rangers and still hold their ground. Their most active and committed ally, Arlene Hamilton, was mysteriously killed in a car crash on the reservation. Their struggle continues.
(Black Mesa Indigenous Support: http://www.blackmesais.org/ )

I'm not intending to bore you but to shed some light on ongoing struggles for spiritual freedom, the maintenance of sacred land, and the protection of human rights that happen right in our backyard.

I recently received my latest issue of Wholphin, a quarterly dvd published by McSweeney's in San Francisco, which features rare and unseen films. They featured an excerpt from a recent documentary that bore far too much resemblance to the struggles with which I had been so intimately involved. Below, I have included a section of text from the editor of Wholphin, Brent Hoff, along with links to both a segment of the film and an interview with the filmmakers. I just want to echo Hoff's sentiments; the international effort focused on Tibet is valiant and important. However, let's not forget whose land we inhabit as Americans and the ongoing injustices inflicted by our government on the traditional culture, language, ceremonial life and sacred land of our indigenous populations.

getting off my soapbox,
~sica

From Wholphin:

"In the last few years, while we’ve all been busy “Freeing Tibet” and dutifully monitoring human rights abuses against indigenous peoples half way around the world, filmmakers George and Beth Gage have been documenting equally infuriating human rights abuses taking place right in our own back yard. In a nutshell, for the past 30 years the U.S. government has been quietly, illegally, re-claiming land it had previously ceded to Shoshone Indians and then selling it off to various mining interests. Did you know about this? Neither did we. Despite the fact that the United Nations has passed a resolution condemning our government’s action’s against the Shoshone, actions which at times have involved physically roughing up 70-year-old Shoshone grandmothers, most of us have never even heard of this crisis. But after seeing the film, excerpted on Wholphin No. 5, it is hard to deny that it is a crisis of constitutional proportions, and one that, at the very least, deserves it’s own bumper sticker and the most celebrity-packed summer concert tour our nation’s celebritarian actorvists can muster. The following interview was conducted with George and Beth for the issue."

Experiences of the Tasseograph

    </a>
										<div>I'm an ethnographer completing my Master's degree in Folklore. I stumbled upon the Tasseograph Trash Tea Temple while at a festival this summer and was compelled to write my thesis on this creation by Shrine and TukTuk. I have my own meanings and experiences associated with the Tasseograph, but I wanted to get a sense of other people's involvement or experiences with the structure.

I am interested to hear any stories, experiences, rituals, or performances at, with, or around the Tasseograph from the community of Burners.

Did you get married there?
Were you part of the crystal singing bowl enclave that kept the temple vibrating throughout the temple burn?
Did you participate in any of the tea ceremonies?
Were you dancing there at dawn?
Did you have profound moments of contemplation?
What meaning does the Tasseograph have to you?

Any kind of experience would be helpful as I try to decipher what the Tasseograph means to the community and the culture of Burning Man.

You can also visit the blog that I set up: tasseograph.blogspot.com

Thanks!!

										<div>something lies inside me
deep, cast in the shadows
of all that has gone before

~~~~~~~my daydreams,
fantasies that slowly
make themselves real.
where will this take me?
where does this line lead...
into the cold
out from the sun
stretching to the horizon
where pools of light melt
into three billion sunsets.
a memorable day
a fleeting moment
an idea that will spread into tomorrow.</div>
