</a>
										<div>I'm thinking.

I'm thinking in the Dance community we've got a lot of body image issues. Tall, short, thin, curvy -all kinds of excuses to put ourselves down. I know there was a movement for a community diet and exercise program and I'm wondering if there was a place to get together and just vent/chat/comiserate about our various image issues. A place to get together and reassure ourselves that we are not alone, there are others who have to over come negitve "tapes" that they play to themselves and get their fannys on stage and perform. I freely admit to being a dragon of insecurity before a performance and even worse after one. I've gotten it a little more under control, but I'm a long way from healthy. :)

On line is a great resource, but I would really enjoy just sitting in person and emoting together. What do you think? Is it too scary to sit person to person? Is there something like this already and I've just missed it? (cause I'm lazy and didn't look very hard )</div>

										<div>Nici, my mom, needs to find a home for Scarlett, her orange/white Maine coon kitty. The place where my mom is going to move to in Los Angeles can't have cats ( the owner is allergic). If you can help me find a home for her, I'd be greatful. Scarlett is a good kitty and would be ok in a multi kitty home or with a dog, but much happier Queen of her own realm. She is de-clawed and a love. She is a BIG CAT, please research a bit about the breed if you are interested, just so you know what you are getting in to. Contact me if you can give her a home!

<div>I've been asked if I think Belly Dance has a or is a "culture"...
I looked up culture on Wikipedia and found "generally refers to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures that give such activity significance."

So I'm thinking my self in circles...What is your take... is there an American Belly Dance Culture? </div>

    </a>
										<div>So today I found myself all up in arms and judgmental and I went to find just the right quote just to make my point and put people in their place....

and found myself put in my place instead. The old adage that if you are pointing a finger at someone, it's pointing at you as well.

**********************************************************************************************************

The first sign of the realization of truth is tolerance.

                        Bowl of Saki, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan:

A soul shows the proof of its evolution in the degree of the tolerance it shows. The life in the lower creation shows the lack of tolerance. The tendency of fighting with one another, which one sees among beasts and birds, shows the reason at the back of it, that intolerance is born in their nature. ... But when a soul has evolved still more, tolerance becomes the natural thing for him. Because the highly evolved soul then begins to realize 'Another person is not separate from me, but the other person is myself. The separation is on the surface of life, but in the depth of life I and the other person are one.' Therefore tolerance is not learned fully by trying to follow it as a good principle. It is learned by having the love of God, by attaining the knowledge of self, and by understanding the truth of life.

   from  http://wahiduddin.net/mv2/XIII/XIII_21.htm

A Sufi tries to keep harmony in his surroundings, the harmony which demands many sacrifices. It makes one endure what one is not willing to endure, it makes one overlook what one is not inclined to overlook, it makes one tolerate what one is not accustomed to tolerate, and it makes one forgive and forget what one would never have forgotten if it were not for the sake of harmony. But at whatever cost harmony is attained, it is a good bargain. For harmony is the secret of happiness, and in absence of this a person living in palaces and rolling in gold can be most unhappy.

   from  http://wahiduddin.net/mv2/XIII/XIII_17.htm

The first step to the attainment of the truth cannot be taught in books, or be imparted by a teacher. It must come spontaneously, namely through the love for truth. The next step is to search for it; the third step is the actual attainment. How can one attain? In order to attain truth one must make one's own life truthful. ... Passing from the state of natural man, through the state of being a lover of truth and a seeker after truth, one begins to express truth ... One begins to understand what the great teachers have taught. Then one becomes tolerant to the various religions. Nothing seems strange any more. Nothing surprises. For now one begins to know the innermost nature of man; one sees the cause behind every action. Therefore tolerance and forgiveness and understanding of others come naturally. The person who knows the truth is the most tolerant. It is the knower of truth who is forgiving; it is the knower of truth who understands another person's point of view. It is the knower of truth who does not readily voice his opinion, for he has respect for the opinions of others.

When man gains insight into himself, he also gains insight into the hearts of others. All this desire for learning occult or mystical powers or psychic powers now disappears, because he begins to see all this power in one truth -- loving truth, seeking truth, looking for truth, living the truthful life. That it is which opens all doors. </div>

For the war or aginst it. This man made a statement, that went unheard. Who is watching the watchers? </div>

Middle Eastern Dance, a rant... or just babble...

										<div>As a community we bemoan our fate as the red headed step children of the Dance community at large. We have little respect in the Dance community and even less when we venture out side of that. I think the best way to get the Dance community to care about belly dancers is to have Middle Eastern dancers that care about the Dance community. I believe that participating, advocating and working in the Dance community at large are a great first steps towards getting more community respect. Making sure that the voice of the Middle Eastern dancer is heard, or at least seen. Amanda came to the Dallas Area Cultural Advocacy Coalition meeting tonight and she said she felt very much the same way- and there must be others out there who are also working in the Dance community on our behalf. (For I know this can’t be a new idea, only a new to me idea). Come on out and join us.

I would like to challenge *all* Middle Eastern dancers to get out and about in the Dance community. NTMEDA is going to be arranging Meet Ups- not only at coffee shops but at different cultural dance events. Please go! Support other dance forms as you would like to see us supported. If you have the extra funds, join the Dance Counsil. If you really want to see a difference, start attending your town hall meetings and speak out for the Arts. Tell about the positive difference your studio or in home classes are making for the women in your community.
Become a voice.
Become change.
