Ramblings of a Travelling Belly Dancer

Okay, I admit it....

...I like pro wrestling.

Okay, it's more of a circus these days than it was when I was growing up. Grew up with a brother, so roughhousing was influenced by "Big Time Wrestling".

As an adult, especially in my 20's, we used to watch WWF and WCW. It was like a soap opera with body slams - a testosterone soap opera. Okay, yeah -- sorta staged, but those guys really get hurt. It's 'sports entertainment'. Very physical.

And hey, I'm a freakin dancer!
Like we don't do things that are staged?!?

So, I'm waiting for my flight to Houston. Hey, that's Bill Goldberg! Kool.

We get onto our flight. I've got one seat next to me and guess what?
Yup, he's sitting right next to me.

What?!? They put the bald guys together?

So I don't want to be a giddy fan - I mean, we all know our stage persona isn't the real us, it's a role we play for entertainment. After a bit of sitting in our seats, I'm reading a book, I mention, "You know, when I used to be more buffed, little kids would think I was you."

"Hey, I'm really sorry about that, " he responds.

He's a great guy. Bright, family guy. Gave me some frequent flyer pointers.

But yeah: Giddy.

I told him I hope no one thinks he is me and apologized in advance.
"What do you do?" he asks

"...oh, I'm a belly dancer."

What I would've given to be there and here and see that conversation ... back in the OLD days I loved wrestling ... you know back in the 70's!!!!

That is great!
What an experience! What a photo! I am a wrestling fan (see, now there are two of us in the belly dance community) and that is just hillarious! You look like two peas in a pod.

You never know who you are going to meet on business trips :-)
I met Ken Shamrock (when he was still with WWF) in Fresno, CA when we helped some stranger who's car had died.
Man, these wrestlers show up in the darndest places!

GOLDBERG!

That photo is outstanding - you lucky, lucky man....
And wrestling is totally awesome! I'm a valet for XVW (formerly XWX - a regional Ohio pro wrestling company)

I love it! Fab pic and story. You lucky man you.

I remember wrestling in the 70's. The only girl I knew that LOVED it! Once I saved my allowance forever to buy a ticket to go see them when they came to town. The best purchase from my allowance by far. Of course, that was about a hundred years ago... LOL

I freakin love wrestling and Goldberg. I am such a groupie. You are one lucky man and I am happy to hear that one of my wrestling idols is a nice guy cause that is not always the case. Believe me I know...sometime the fantasy should remain a fantasy. Nice photo, my boyfriend is a bald white man too...lol.

Great photo! Cool story. And if you think wrestling is staged now, you should have seen it, when I was a kid! <giggle> <snicker>

I'm a longtime wrestling fan and think TPTB should write El Boz into a storyline.

What a great photo! Goldbergggggg!!!!

That is very cool. I definitely want to hear about his response.

When I was a kid, I LOVED wrestling. My cousins and I would wrestle in back yard all the time and beat the crap out of each other--and I was the girliest of girls otherwise (should have seen my future interest in martial arts coming).

LOL!
What did he say to that hahaha

Great story! What was his response? The only wrestler I ever met was the Great John L in the late 70s (he did Lay's commercials and a few others I think) at a March of Dimes Benefit - and his cougar Honey. Very cool.

Awesome! My 'fighter" encounter came from when I was flying from AZ to Las Vegas for Comdex 2000 and there was a huge fight at the Mandalay Bay. I always ask the person behind me if I can recline (even up front) and the guy behind me in his rather inmistakable voice said, "Sure, no problem". it was Mike Tyson. I actually chatted with him for the hour or so flight. He was a very mellow, very easy going guy. Talk about stage persona, but I think the ear biting thing took it a bit too far...

Love it...
Too cool - and I would have loved to have seen/heard his response to you. :)
