Known for his crisp isolations and exercises in precision hip work, Jim Boz will present a series of Advanced Hip Drills and Articulations, from basic through Advanced levels. Suitable for applications in your own workouts, these drills will sharpen your techniques and increase your "HIPRECISION"(tm).

Saturday 11:30am-1:30pm Oriental Combinations & Expression w/Jim Boz
Presenting a variety of Oriental techniques, textures, combinations and expressions for a variety of idioms, we will focus on proper balance, presentation and transitional elements for application to many Oriental and related dance forms. Music used for this workshop can be found on the CD "Belly Dance With Jim Boz" available at the studio or at the workshop.

Saturday 2:30-4:30pm Double Veil: Beginning to Intermediate w/Aneena
Just starting at Double Veil? Interested in the technique? Or want to sharpen your skills? This workshop, geared towards those with no previous knowledge through those who have some knowledge of double veil technique. Presented by the Master and Originator of the style, Aneena is a Patient instructor, known for her charm, wit and emotional expression. Don't let her approachability confuse you, she is an International Star with broad appeal on a variety of performance stages. Bring 2 semi-circular silk veils with a rolled edge. Aneena will have veils for sale, including some of her signature dyed veils that she offers at events worldwide.

Sunday 11:30am-1:30pm Double Veil: Intermediate to Advanced w/Aneena
This workshop, geared towards those with previous knowledge through those who require a challenge in double veil technique. Presented by the Master and Originator of the style, Aneena is a Patient instructor, known for her charm, wit and emotional expression. Subject material will begin easily and comfortably, but will quickly offer insight into the most advanced concepts of Double Veil technique. Previous experience strongly recommended. For those familiar with the technique and are looking for the best in their presentation are highly encouraged to attend! Bring 2 semi-circular silk veils with a rolled edge. Aneena will have veils for sale, including some of her signature dyed veils that she offers at events worldwide.


Sunday 2:30-4:30pm Baladi Combinations & Expression w/Jim Boz
Baladi, the urbanized folk music from the country, offers it's own presentation and movement vocabularies. Similar in some textures, but quite differently focused, the vocabularies present an opportunity to express more than just steps and hip movements, but the soul of Egyptian dance. Join Jim as we step through not only a series of combinations, but explanations and skill building in modulating texture sequences to unlock the inner soul of the music.

Cairo Madness!

Just an FYI and wanted to get this out to my friends, compatriots and other crazies.


Planning a trip to Cairo for May for 8-10 people (VIP type tour). The tour will actually be organized by someone IN Cairo who does this for dancers regularly. We're just going to do our own little gig, with tours, workshops, dates, etc.

No details as of yet, still planning it.
Dates are end of may, something like 11-14 days.
Includes workshops (NOT going to festivals) with *just* our group and touristy things. The contact people there are friends and professionals in the industry and will be taking us to clubs WITH them, we won't be on our own.

Crazies PLEASE cut to the front of the line.

There are a few crazy friends of mine planning on going, and if we could get always have input on the decisions (yeah, crazy, eh?).

Sorry for the broadcast -- it's just easier to get this to all my friends/cohorts and I'll be less likely to forget someone. ;)

Uhhhh....

It was one of those moments lost in the rapture of delight, music, lights and the excitement of quality entertainment by world class stars!

August 12th I attended Fahtiem's Oasis Dance Magic with a HOST of World Famous dancers, magicians, singers and more. She always throws a world class event! Starring the always delightful and definitively sassy Virginia of Miami. She's a great dancer, and a friend I get to see at events sometimes. Our schedules don't allow us much other visitation.

One of my students, her husband and daughter attended the event with me. Olga and I went to the workshop where Virginia proved to be an awesome instructor. I was nursing a bit of a weak knee, so with my wrap in place, I took much of the workshop easy so I can heal for my upcoming Chicago event. The dinner break before the show brimming with anticipation! A few martinis, and the lights dimmed and we were off. What a wonderful show!

Swept up in the moment, the audience cheered, clapped, whistled and screamed! Emcee Harry Saroyan kept the motion between sets. We were building to an exciting part of the evening.

Virginia for her second set did an exciting and ultra-sassy melaya luff number and then proceeded into the audience. Her glamour just ushering a new high for the audience as we rode the sparkle and swish of her personality and dance style. She took Jaqueline from Palm Desert up to dance in the aisle with her. Exciting! Then she looks at me...oh my! Here it comes. And after a few martinis! *blush*

What was I to do?

Now, y'all know me as an introvert. Oh, I was at a loss. I tried. I really did. I even tried to manage a knee bend, but the knee gave out and I ended on the floor. A quick duet backbend between me and Virginia! OH! How much fun!

The show was exciting!
Of course, for the long drive home, I needed a quick pottie break before we left. Then it hit me, and all my excitement flushed from my body, like the blood from your cheeks as you realize the keys are in the ignition as you're slamming the door, or paper that you just threw away that was taken by the garbage collector had that phone number you absolutely needed...That sinking feeling. That feeling that there's no oxygen left in your lungs, no feeling in your legs, and the world around you fizzes with an Alka Seltzer-like bubbling as your sense of the world bubbles away into the cosmos...

...my zipper was down.

Vanessa, one of my students, won *Rising Star* at Wiggles of the West.

Even better, so many think she should have been in Pro!
Funny thing - it was her 4th solo ever, and her first one was just last May!

Look out world -- she fully rawks!

PS: I can't take credit for her abilities. Even tho I've had her since her first classes and she demos for me and everything, she takes from lots of people and she's the one who puts in the time, effort, sweat and money to make sure everything is just right. Score one for 'attention to detail'!
