Hi, I give cajón classes (flamenco percussion) in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
If you'd like to have more information in English, please contact me through Tribe.

OVER FLAMENCO

verdiepen.

Slow & Successful Living: The Type-Z Guide to Success

I love Marc Allen's little book, 'The Type Z-Guide to Success: A Lazy Person's Manifesto for Wealth and Fulfillment'. I thought it was a very enjoyable and useful read.
The book shows you how you can lead a more relaxed life ánd still fulfill your dreams. It blows the myth that you need to work hard and kill yourself in order to have success, includes practical steps to discover what your ideal life would look like, how you can plan and work towards it and how to overcome doubts and difficulties, and all this in a positive and relaxed manner.
It helped me to get clear about what I wanted from life, and also learn to accept that there's nothing wrong with my natural speed, which is in fact very, and I mean VERY slow. I have always pushed myself to live a high paced life (like three times the pace than is good for me) to keep up with modern life's demands and become succesful, and this book helped me to take things slower and follow my own pace. Highly recommended.

This is so cool! Not architecture but biotecture...
I already knew about green/eco friendly, sustainable houses, build from all-natural materials and with independent water and heating systems, but these houses are also build from waste materials like rubber tires, cans and the like... And you really can't tell, because you can make your 'earthship' however you like.

From the Earthship website:

'Earthship Biotecture creates buildings that...

Heat and cool themselves naturally via solar/thermal dynamics
Collect their own power from the sun and wind
Harvest their own water from rain and snow melt
Sewage containment and treatment on site
Produce food in significant quantities
Utilize materials that are byproducts of modern society like cans, bottles and tires'

Check out the website and make sure you watch the videoclip:

Pilates: Body in Motion

I love pilates. It's a very effective form of excercise, developed by the German Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), with emphasis on precision, mental focus and breathing. It strenghtens the deeper muscles of the core like no other, and makes you strong, flexible and more toned overall in a rather short amount of time.
If you're interested in learning pilates at home, there are some wonderful books and dvd's out there. The book 'Pilates: Body in Motion' by Alycea Ungaro is my favorite. It teaches the complete pilates mat workout, leading you from beginners level to advanced. It has lots of clear color photos and is very well explained. You don't need any other equipment besides yourself and a yoga mat.
I'd also recommend the book 'The Pilates Body' by Brooke Siler, another excellent book. Just like Ungaro's, it covers the complete mat workout. The only drawback is that the pictures are black and white, which makes the book visually less appealing than Ungaro's, but it's still great and the information in it complements Ungaro's book wonderfully.
Furthermore, I'd like to mention the dvd 'Classical PIlates Technique: The Complete Mat Workout Series'; it's very inspirational to see super advanced pilates people do the mat workout, they're like athletes! If that doesn't inspire you to get on that mat...

If your a (belly)dancer: because of its core strenghtening qualities, pilates can be a great addition to your dance practice. It might not be as popular or well known as yoga, but worth checking out nevertheless. There's a great pilates & bellydance tribe here on tribe.net if you'd like to know more: http://tribes.tribe.net/pilates_bellydance

Gone Raw: Great (Raw) Recipe Website

I found this great (raw) recipe website. It has everything, from crunchy breakfasts to savory diners, from deserts, cookies and pies to delicious energy boosting smoothies. There are over 2000 members who post recipes and pictures regularly. I made the mangocado salsa someone posted, a dish that has mango and avocado in it, amongst others, and it tasted very nice (although next time, I'd probably develop my own version). Next time I'm gonna try something like a chocolate smoothie, or lemon cookies... Or the spicy jam chips pictured above... You don't have to be into a raw & living foods lifestyle to get some really wonderful and tasty food inspiration here (and hey, the fact that a lot of these great recipes are actually healthy/healthier versions of greasy junkfoods, snacks and sweets is a big plus)...

Raw Corn on the Cob

Not many people know this, but corn on the cob can actually be eaten raw and tastes delicious that way.
I've only known of this since a couple of weeks, and only because I'm into raw foods and saw it mentioned somewhere on a raw food board.
I had two for breakfast this morning and it tasted good. But I have to say that these, being from the fridge from the regular supermarket, don't taste nearly as good as corn that's really fresh ánd organically grown. I had three of those a few weeks ago, and it was my first experience with raw corn ever. Those were truly delicious: amazingly crispy, juicy and sweet. I just thought: why do people actually bother cooking or roasting them and spoiling them with salt and butter? I could just get lost in a corn field and nibble away! Plus if you're lazy, like me, eating it as is, is much more convenient (not to mention that this way, all the nutrients are still intact...).
Try it next time and let me know what you think.

When I lived in Spain, I regularly bought the Spanish version of Yoga Journal.
I admit, there were a lot of articles in it I didn't really care for, but there were always some articles I found interesting and from which I learnt about other types of yoga, some nice yoga series or new poses. Also... the photos were usually very inspiring. Just looking at them made me wanna roll out my mat and go. And that's why I bought them: for inspiration.
Now I'm back in The Netherlands, I discovered a new (Dutch) yoga magazine, and although I don't believe it's linked to Yoga Journal, the general idea is the same: pure yoga inspiration. The Autumn issue contained a really beautiful Moon Salutation and that was the main reason I bought it. I practice that Moon Salutation almost every evening now, it became one of my favorite series.

The Easy Yoga Workbook: A Complete Yoga Class in a Book

If you're a complete beginner in yoga, Rodney Yee's book, as described in an earlier post, may be a bit daunting (an eight week program might not be what you're looking for right now). In that case, I'd highly recommend Tara Fraser's 'Easy Yoga Workbook', because that's exáctly what it is.
It's a beginner's progam, and although I'm nót a beginner, I still found this to be a great program and regularly practice it. The program consists of 22 easy to learn poses. There are modifications, in case the poses are too difficult for you or you have certain problems. Depending on how much time you have, you can leave out some of the poses, or hold the poses for a shorter or longer amount of time. The book also covers breath and meditation techniques, and has a companion cd with the whole practice. With lots of big, clear color photos.

Moving Toward Balance: 8 Weeks of Yoga with Rodney Yee

At the moment I'm working with Rodney Yee's book 'Moving Toward Balance'. It's an eight week program in which you learn all the basic yoga postures, Iyengar style (meaning holding one pose for a longer period of time before moving to another pose, instead of doing a fluid, dynamic serie of poses like in power, vinyase or ashtanga yoga). Although I'm not a beginner, I'm using it to deepen my yoga practice and am learning more about postures I already know, new postures, mindfulness and meditation.
Yee does his job quite well, leading you through a complete program. The book (394 pages!) contains lots of clear, full color pictures, modifications and thorough descriptions. He also leads you through breath awareness and meditation excercises. This book is geared toward people, especially beginners, who want to build a regular yoga practice at home, and after finishing the eight week program, you will be able to compose your own program, follow the programs from the book or modify them. It's very complete, so you can also use it as a reference book, which I've done a lot in the past. Highly recommended!

Someone invented a raw vegetable version of the traditional sandwich:
http://www.gorillasandwich.com/

A GREAT idea (but hey, I love eating raw and living foods, so I'm biased)...
Gonna make something like this next time when I go the zoo and want to take something raw along with me... Those gorilla's are going to be so jeaulous (yes, the sandwich will be for mé, not for the animals)!
Actually, I'm gonna try this tomorrow. It's like the idea of the century... So simple, and yet a genious solution to having to carry around loose and perishable vegetables if you'd like to eat other fresh and raw food besides fruit when you're on the road.

Why? Because I deleted ALL MY POSTS (yes, all 87 of them) and a bunch of other things too.
After having lived abroad for a year, being back feels like entering a new phase.
I have the urge to clean out big time and start afresh, in all aspects of my life.
My house... My worklife... My websites... My Tribe profile... Everything needs a make over.
Kind of like a spring cleaning, only different.
