How do I feel about Joey? Let me count the ways. He's got fire in his veins, burnin' hot so he doesn't feel any pain. He has better socks than I do. He's like the great pumpkin to me, emering in the night carrying magic and chocolate wherever he goes. Most of the time, he's the best part of my day. Part roustabout? Indeed. This man knows how to tip a lady and drink from a 2 liter boot---one handed. He knows how to soft shoe and gives great bear hugs. He once gave a kangaroo a heartattack. He lets me create strange concoctions in his kitchen and smiles deliciously...sometimes mischieviously. The man knows how to entertain a room and he doesn't even mind it when I smell of wine and cheap perfume...

Joey is charming, disarming, a bit alarming in spandex (calves like bifurcated anacondas), and, if memory serves, once did some organic farming.

He has more room in his heart than anyone I've ever met, and a bicycle for every occasion. I once saw him strap a lasagne to his bicycle rack using inner-tubes -- then ride all over the Mission to a Christmas party. He keeps ancient mixed tapes and can spell *anything*.

One of the strangest sights I ever beheld was Joey shaving his legs in my bathtub when I was 20. I don't know that I've ever recovered. He's a pro at holding your hair back when the Southern Comfort comes back up for air, and will forgive you for throwing fireworks at him. And shoes. And plates.

about me
"girls like guys with skills, like numchuk skills, bowhunting skills" and i've got 'em. part german engineer, part irish roustabout and part scottish rogue, an exercise in contradiction. got an old mustang but rarely drive it - I bike to work. My motorcycle and bicycle get more miles than my car. I'm a vegetarian but like good leather shoes. Shy but naughty. "secretly I'm timid" - liz phair. Well-read but find much intellectualism tiresome and ineffectual - strike a balance between contemplation and real, dirt-under-the-fingernails action. I'm retro and techno at the same time. I revel in the cheap but appreciate the finer things. Love nothing better than finding the finer things cheap or free! I'm equally at home in Costco and the Berkeley Bowl, Grocery Outlet or Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc. love the outdoors, hiking and biking, fast motorcycle rides, learning more about almost any subject, nights at home when you just look stuff up online or read. I used to live for poetry. Still write on occasion. I built a bike shed and earthquake retrofitted a house. I know how to fix your bicycle. I'm a nonpracticing buddhist, but practice open, non-conscious attentiveness at times. I have not owned a car most of my adult life, but now I do. I can be sensitive and perceptive, but sometimes just need to be alone. I've got a strong moral sense but know how to properly be bad. I'm a hopeless romantic. I am prone to sing Rufus Wainwright at the top of my lungs while driving alone. (not a capella) I've been to burning man but like to use my creative energy in other parts of my life too. I own my own house.

My Phone's on Vibrate for You

well, not me specifically, but move in to my house in a separate unit. That's right folks, it's that time again - after about a year and a half with some pretty good tenants they've moving on. Here's the listing, copied from CL - it would be even better to rent to someone I know from Tribe or who has good references from someone I know:

Hey all,
Available late February/March 1 - current tenants leave late February. Recent repaint. Large, sunny upstairs and downstairs living room unit i... read more

(or, The Antidote to the Crazy Pills I Have Been Taking)

I know you've all been wondering this, around the holidays - right after "how should I mash the garlic in the garlic mashed potatoes" you must be wondering "how does Joey DO it?" Here are some Helpful Holiday Hints:

-Send mom who is fighting cancer some Goji Berries (Wolf Berries) - they are super healthy and have more antioxidants than just about anything out there: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goji_berry

-Take some yourself.... read more

Take the Votergasm Pledge! You can always sneak a peek at their ballot cheat-sheet and negotiate what sort of activities happen between/under/tied-up-by the sheets.

I'm registered Green - they have an excellent voter guide, but I don't always (or often) vote for the Green candidate. Check it out here for Alameda county:

so immediately after coming home, I get to go to Roller Derby (which I thought I'd miss) and the Oakland Outlaws wiped the floor with the SF Shevil Dead. It was another good match. I managed to get back Saturday (two Saturdays ago) early enough (nonstop flight) that I could go out right after.

going out of order here, Mom is out of the hospital and rehab, and in good spirits. We talk almost daily, and she hasn't started radiation or chemotherapy yet. I hope it's not too hard on her, bu... read more

not hot rain, which we sometimes can get in PA summers, but it is actually warm here right now and started raining this evening. After being strong for my mother all day, and offering encouragement, along with her family and friends and her boyfriend-who-deserves-a-better-term, I came home, talked to him for a while and really got to a deeper level with him, then went outside in the rain after he had gone to sleep and bawled my eyes out.

You see, my father's ashes are sitting in a pedesta... read more
