Here are the notes from the May 15th workshop. If anyone has any questions, let me know.

Combination 1
-2 hip bumps travelling to the right. Arms are in an L shape framing the working hip.
Step behind with the left foot bringing your arms together (one on top of the other) in the front.
-3 step turn to the left starting with the left foot
-end the turn by stepping with the left foot and contracting the pelvis
-pose on the ball of the left foot and begin the combination again with hip bumps to the left

Combination 2
-8 count drop kick wrapping one arm around midsection and on arm over head.
(if the right leg is doing the drop kicks, then the right arm wraps around the midsections)
-lunge to the right (if drop kicks are with the right leg) reaching with the right arm and bringing the left
arm down to your side. Return from lunge with a right arm shoulder shimmy.

Combination 3

the audience), end facing the back
-8 count omi with level change (optional lotus hands above head)
-repeat 2 travalleling undulations facing the side, travelling in the opposite direction you started.

Combination 4

So, there's this AWESOME dancer named Dana...

And I want to nominate her for Zaghareet's Best Kept Secret award. Thats right, I'm on a mission to get my best buddy Dana Beaufait nominated. I really think she deserves this award. She's accomplished so much at the age of 21. She's teaching 3 tribal classes in the Hampton Roads area, she's an incredibly innovative dancer, and she's produced a great instructional dvd featuring a prop she created herself! Now if thats not deserving of some kind of recognition, I don't know what is!

So if by some chance you are not familiar with this phenomenal artist, check out these links:

people.tribe.net/voi2

Once you've done that and have concluded that no one could possibly deserve this award more than her (the only possible conclusion really), vote here:

thanks guys!

ps. I totally nominated Balkanize! for best musicians!

Teaching...what?!

Ok, here goes...I've been teaching private lessons on the down low for a couple of months now. It took a lot of prodding to get me to start teaching in the first place, and until recently I haven't been totally comfortable with people knowing I teach. Well, I think I'm over that now, so here is my official announcment:

I'm teaching private lessons! Lessons are created to best enhance your individual dance style. Basically, you tell me what you want to work on, and I create an individual program to meet your needs. The frequency of classes and the format can also be taylored to meet your needs. Hour long sessions can be scheduled on a regular basis. One time "personal mini workshops" can also be scheduled. Topic include: overall technique, combinations, zills, ect. Send me an e-mail at joharadance@hotmail.com for rates and other information.

my best friend made a video!

Fascinated by the beauty of fire spinning? Looking for the thrill of spinning fire without the danger? Love working with veils but are bored with the same old look and presentation possibilities?

The Art of Fireless Spinning
"VOI" is a unique poi and veil spinning craft created by Dana Beaufait (Amani of Newport News, VA) allows you to have the flash and flare of fire spinning anywhere without the danger and limitations of fire. Dana has perfected this original technique with single and double "VOI " and now offers you the opportunity to learn from the dancer who first invented combining two very popular dance props. "VOI" looks, feels, and even sounds like real fire when you spin!
"VOI" can be used with confidence by cabaret and tribal dancers, beginners and professionals.
